  • Patent number: 5048219
Abstract: A free floating fish catching device is provided having a large dimension, generally flat float structure having upper and lower surfaces. A connector projection extends upwardly from the central portion of the top surface and defines an aperture to receive one end of a swivel to which a fishing leader and hook are connected. The fish catching device is inverted by a biting fish to expose an attention attracting surface to provide an indication that a fish has been caught. A lifting loop is also provided to enable the device to be lifted from the water along with the fish. The inverted top surface of the device functions as a water brake to retard movement of the device by the fish and functions together with the leader connector element to cause a caught fish to swim in a circle rather than swimming away with the device.

  • Patent number: 5048222
Abstract: A crab catcher for use with baited crab line includes a mesh box cage or basket with an opened end facing in the direction of motion of the boat. It is mounted in a frame alongside a moving boat, just under the water. Crab line is run over two rollers, forming a V shape, positioned above the open end of the basket; the line continues over the basket to a rear guide and off the back end. As the boat moves, crabs feeding on the baited line will let go as they near the surface. They are then swept into the open end of the basket by the flow of water and held there by the current. To increase the chance of entrapment, mesh plates are arranged about the open basket end to form a partial funnel and give a larger efffective opening. The basket lifts out of the frame for emptying it of crabs. The frame, which is adjustable for different sizes of boats, has hooks to go over the gunwales of the boat.

  • Patent number: 5048223
Abstract: A fishing rod has a reel mounting member and grip members secured to an outer periphery of a rod stem member. One end of the grip member is extended to the portion opposite to the reel leg fixing portion in the vicinity of the reel mounting member, so that the stepped portions between the grip members and the reel mounting member are eliminated. As a result, the configuration thereof can be well adapted to the hand, and the ruggedness does not concentrate on the portion. Such a structure does not cause pains in the palm and fingers of the fisher when enjoying the fishing, and enables the fisher to grasp the fishing rod for a long period of time. Where the exfoliative stresses are applied on the bonding surfaces between the reel mounting member and the grip members when the rod stem member is bent, the joint portion is greater in length than in the prior art, and hence the stresses are dispersed at that portion. In addition, because the wider bonding area is provided, the separation does not occur easily.

  • Patent number: 5048226
Abstract: A seeding machine has a drum and roller urged together to define a seed trough. Bristles close one end of the trough and a hopper adjacent that end feeds a continuous supply of seeds to the trough. The seeds flow along the length of the trough and are discharged at the opposite end of the trough which is open. A funnel collects the discharged seeds and returns them to the hopper. The drum is provided with a series of axially extending rows of holes which are coupled to a vacuum source as each row passes through the tumbling seeds in the trough. A single seed is attracted to each hole and is carried by the drum to a discharge location where the hole in question is disconnected from the vacuum source and instead connected to a source of pressure which then acts to eject the seed from the drum.

  • Patent number: 5048243
Abstract: An earthquake restraint mechanism helps to prevent the collapse of tilt-up style exterior wall panels (7, 64) of a building (17). The panels are coupled to one another at their abutting joints (16) through L-shaped brackets (18, 20, 68) mounted to the wall panels and restrainers (32, 66, 106) connecting the outwardly extending legs (28, 30, 90) of the brackets. The panels are energetically coupled to one another because the brackets act as shock absorbers which absorb the initial shock on the all panels from an earthquake. Because the panels are tied together, the panels are restrained from collapsing thus helping to protect persons and property. An accumulative effect of energy absorption is evident with the redundant use of the restraint mechanism. The panels can also be connected to other structural members, such as joists or beams, as well.

  • Patent number: 5048264
Abstract: The present invention involves methods and apparatus for winding imbricated formations of multi-sheeted, twice-folded printing products into a roll together with a winding band wherein the individual multi-sheeted, twice-folded printing products are skewed in relation to the conveying direction of the imbricated formation by a small angle. The laterally protruding corners of the printing products lie on imaginary straight lines which run parallel to the conveying direction. The lateral fold edges of the printing products are mutually offset by a certain amount in a direction running transversely to the conveying direction. The lateral fold edges therefore do not end up one on top of the other during winding, as a result of which a thickening on one side of the roll is avoided.
