  • Patent number: 5056299
Abstract: An apparatus for successively opening the mouths of bags which are fed one by one to a table and putting such bag over a guide hopper for charging the bag with an article to be packaged. The mouth of the bag is sucked by a pair of vacuum suction members from the opposite sides. The vacuum suction members are gradually separated from each other while transferring a bag from a table to the hopper, thereby gradually opening the mouth of the bag. This prevents failures in opening bags and also prevents the bag from separating from the vacuum suction members.

  • Patent number: 5056311
Abstract: A hydrostatic steering device is provided with a pump connected with a reservoir, a steering valve, a controlled-volume pump that is capable of being activated by a steering wheel and with a steering cylinder. The steering mechanism has a variable working flow and a constant pilot flow, with the pilot stream flowing through a constant throttle and the pressure drop through the constant throttle serving as a control signal for the conveying flow in a pressure delivery line. The controlled-volume pump is coupled mechanically with an adjustment throttle through which the pilot flows. Between the constant throttle and the adjustment throttle lies a pressure compensator that is controlled by the adjustment throttle's differential pressure. To receive the load signal, a control line branches off between the constant throttle and the pressure compensator and leads to the pump or, in the case of a fixed displacement pump with a rear-position flow-dividing valve, to the flow-dividing valve.

  • Patent number: 5056315
Abstract: A Wankel rotary engine is modified to operate on natural gas, with the exhaust from the engine being fed into a combustion chamber where an ignition device ignites the hydrocarbons in the engine exhaust, with the engine timing, and the air and fuel mixture of the engine being controlled to produce a sufficient amount of hydrocarbons in the engine exhaust to enable ignition and combustion of the engine exhaust in the combustion chamber without the addition of fuel to air. The exhaust from the combustion chamber drives a power turbine. In further embodiments, the engine may be turbocharged, and heat exchangers use the excess heat from the engine coolant, lubricant, and exhaust gases to heat a usable liquid, such as water, thus providing a cogeneration system.

  • Patent number: 5056317
Abstract: An integral cryogenic refrigerator, or cryocooler, for cooling an electronic device to cryogenic temperatures. The cryocooler has a minimum number of moving parts. A lightweight flexure links a compressor piston to a coupler which is also connected to a regenerator via a lightweight vane. An electric motor with an offset shaft drives the coupler via a bearing through a circular path to impart properly timed motion to the compressor piston and regenerator. This arrangement minimizes the weight and number of moving parts, resulting in maximum efficiency and operating life. • Patent number: 5056324
Abstract: A transport refrigeration system which includes a compressor, a condenser, a receiver, an evaporator, an accumulator, and a control valve having cooling and heating output ports which are alternatively connected to first or second refrigerant circuits to initiate cooling and heating cycles, respectively. The heating capacity of a commanded heating cycle is enhanced prior to switching to the heating cycle by connecting the outlet of the receiver to the second refrigerant circuit while maintaining the control valve cooling port active in the first refrigerant circuit for a predetermined time delay. This forces liquid refrigerant in the condenser to flow into the receiver and then into the second refrigerant circuit, making additional liquid refrigerant available to the heating cycle, which is initiated at the end of the predetermined time delay, without introducing liquid refrigerated directly into the accumulator.

  • Patent number: 5056330
Abstract: A cooling system including a refrigerant compressor for use in a vehicle for cooling a refrigerated compartment includes a hermetic type compressor containing a DC brushless motor as a compressor driver. An electric generator is actuated by the engine of the vehicle to generate AC electric power which is, in turn, rectified by a rectifier to produce DC electric power for driving the DC brushless motor. A switch is provided to switch over from the electric generator to a commercial AC electric power source. The commercial AC electric power is rectified by the rectifier to supply DC electric power. Thus, the compressor can be driven by a commercial AC electric power source when the engine is stopped. In order to achieve accurate temperature control in the refrigerated compartment when the engine is running, the amount of AC electric power generated by the electric generator is controlled.

Abstract: In a scroll apparatus for fluid compression, two interfitting involute scroll elements with inner wall surfaces, each defined by an inner tip portion, an adjacent intermediate portion, an outwardly tending arcuate portion for periodic engagement in moving line contact with the inner tip of the other respective scroll element, and an involute portion extending from the arcuate portion to an outer end of the scroll element. When the involute scroll element inner tip is in moving line engagement with the arcuate portion of the other element, the scroll elements cooperates to define sealed final compression chambers of decreasing volume bounded by the intermediate portion of the scroll elements adjacent the respective inner tips, providing an extended duration of final compression as compared to a scroll apparatus having modified scroll elements.
