  • Patent number: 5095681
Abstract: An apparatus for mounting caps onto fluid containers in a predetermined particular orientation relative to the fluid containers. Caps are drawn from a source of caps and placed singly, in succession, on a cap seat which is in a particular known orientation. Each cap is taken, while on the cap seat, to a delivery position. During transfer to the delivery position, each cap is aligned into a known particular orientation. A device for picking up the caps takes each cap from the cap seat to a container and mounts the cap onto a waiting fluid container, in the desired predetermined orientation with respect to the fluid container. The device includes an operatively associated clamp that supports the fluid container about a flange around the neck to prevent crushing of the fluid container during mounting of the caps.

  • Patent number: 5095693
Abstract: A high efficiency/low nitric oxide emission gas turbine engine includes an interchanger for cooling a compressed air side stream which is used for cooling the turbine section. The heated fuel is then mixed with steam for injection into a combustor, thereby reducing nitric oxide emissions, while preventing condensation during mixing. Where water is used for injection instead of steam, both the fuel and water are preheated by interchange with the hot compressed gas stream. Preheating the fuel and/or water prevents steam condensate or water from entering the combustor, and does so using heat available within the gas turbine cycle thereby increasing overall turbine efficiency. In addition, utilizing a fuel/air interchanger reduces the size of the heat exchanger and the need for other auxiliary equipment, reducing costs while increasing turbine efficiency.

  • Patent number: 5095710
Abstract: The present invention concerns improvements in the electronic control of frozen carbonated beverage machines and improvements in electric defrost heaters used therein. A control scheme is shown that provides for accurately determining the viscosity of a semi-frozen beverage as a function of the torque of a drive motor used in the harvesting and mixing thereof. The torque is first calculated based upon the current and voltage to the motor and the phase difference there between. The torque is adjusted to compensate for motor efficiency after which the net torque value is converted to a viscosity scale. The viscosity scale has a zero value relating to the net torque experienced by the motor when the beverage is known to be completely liquid. Viscosity is maintained within a narrow range based upon pre-defined three level low, medium and high viscosity sets, and wherein compressor short-cycling is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 5095713
Abstract: A refrigerant handling system that includes a compressor and a condenser, each having an inlet and an outlet, with the condenser inlet normally being connected to the compressor outlet so that refrigerant in vapor phase from the compressor is at least partially condensed in the condenser. To clear liquid refrigerant from the condenser, the compressor outlet is disconnected from the condenser and connected to a refrigerant storage container, and the condenser outlet is connected to the compressor inlet. The compressor is then operated to draw refrigerant in vapor phase from the condenser, and to feed such refrigerant to the refrigerant storage container bypassing the condenser. A gauge is coupled to the compressor inlet so that compressor operation may be terminated by the operator when refrigerant vapor pressure in the condenser drops below a preselected threshold level. Thus, the condenser is cleared of refrigerant, which is now stored in the refrigerant storage container.

The controller compares the detected differential pressure from the detector with a set differential pressure beforehand set so as to be lower than a surging differential pressure between the hub side pressure and the shroud side pressure at an occurrence time of surging, and outputs a surging signal predicting an occurrence of surging when the detected differential pressure becomes higher than the set differential pressure.

  • Patent number: 5095715
Abstract: An integrated heat pump and hot water system provides heating or cooling of a comfort zone, as required, and also provides water heating. As a power management feature, the speed of a variable speed compressor is reduced to a predetermined fraction, e.g. 80%, of its normal operating speed, in response to a demand limit signal provided from the electric power utility during times of peak electrical load. A reference compressor speed is computed based on the current compressor speed, indoor temperature, outdoor temperature, and zero-load temperature difference. If the system is between operating cycles when the demand limit signal is received, a stored speed is used which corresponds to the compressor speed at a predetermined outdoor-indoor temperature difference. This system produces graceful reduction in comfort cooling during demand limit periods.
