  • Patent number: 5133196
Abstract: In a circular knitting machine of the type in which the needles are selectively moved into and out of operative relationship with needle cam tracks, flexure of the lower portion of the needle shanks properly locates the lower end portions of the needle shanks in close proximity to selection devices. Such flexure is effected by a plurality of individually radially displaceable rollers. The rollers are disposed in rolling engagement with the outer surface of a flexible band which, in turn, is positioned around the needle cylinder in closely encircling relationship to the needle members at a point below and on the opposite side of a fulcrum located adjacent to and near the upper end of the needle members. As the needle cylinder rotates, the rollers are engaged by cams and displaced toward the needle shanks. The rollers thus engage and inwardly displace portions of the band and thus the needle members therebehind, effecting movement of the needles into close proximity to the selection devices.

Abstract: A cylinder lock includes a tubular housing in which a fixed hollow cylinder and a rotatable hollow cylinder are coaxially mounted. Several axial bores are formed in an end surface of the fixed hollow cylinder. The rotatable hollow cylinder also has several axial bores formed therethrough. Several tumbler units are received in the bores of the cylinders. Each of the tumbler units consists of a first tumbler pin, a second tumbler pin and a tumbler spring. A locking bar extends through the cylinders. A guide pin is mounted securely on the rotatable hollow cylinder and received slidably in the axially extending slide slot of the locking bar so as to enable synchronous rotation and relative sliding movement of the rotatable hollow cylinder and the locking bar. The engagement of the guide pin in the slide slot retains the locking bar on the lock. A resilient element biases the actuated end of the locking bar to extend from the housing. A spring-loaded retaining element is disposed on the fixed hollow cylinder.

  • Patent number: 5133206
Abstract: An apparatus for forming a portion of a member to a predetermined reference position includes a sensor which locates the actual position of the member. A positioning device positions first and second panel holding members into position to engage the member at the actual located position of the member. A drive unit moves the first and second holding members into engagement with the member to hold the member in a fixed position. The drive unit also moves a forming member into engagement with the member to form a portion of the member between the holding members to the predetermined reference position. A pierce pin, also operated by the drive unit, optionally punches an aperture in the formed portion of the member. A method of forming a portion of a member to a known reference position employs the above-described elements.

  • Patent number: 5133208
Abstract: The apparatus of the present invention can be used to measure sedimentation rate of samples. The samples are placed in a sample rotor and are rotatable about a sample rotor axis. The sample rotor axis can be moved into two positions. In one position the sample rotor axis is substantially horizontal and in the other position the sample rotor axis is substantially vertical. Rotation of the sample rotor about the sample rotor axis causes stirring of the samples when the sample rotor axis is horizontal. When the sample rotor axis is substantially vertical settling of the samples occur. Step rotation of the sample rotor brings the samples to a reading means in order to analyze the samples. An optical signal sensor moves along the sides of the test tubes for measuring the sedimentation rate.

  • Patent number: 5133210
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus of indentation testing of variable types of specimens which includes mounting an indenter member onto a thermally expandable member, mounting the specimen to be tested on a pedestal, loading the specimen with the indenter member by thermally expanding the thermally expandable member and measuring applied force to and displacement of the specimen so as to determine the hardness or other material properties of the specimen. The indenter member is thermally insulated from the thermally expandable member prior to thermally expanding the thermally expandable member. The thermal expansion driven indentation system in the present invention allows for controlled application of precise and continuous reproducible loads to produce stress-strain plots. Continuous indentation testing with this system has yielded results which correlate well to Rockwell fixed load hardness tests on standard test blocks.

  • Patent number: 5133212
Abstract: A detection system for determining the level of a liquid in a containment tank includes a containment tank and a reference standard of known weight mounted to the vehicle and movable along the yaw axis of the vehicle. Load cells are placed intermediate the tank and reference standard to provide analog voltage outputs in proportion to the load on each cell. The load cell outputs, when amplified, summed and then divided by the output of the reference weight load cell, provide an electronic signal that is proportional to the gross weight of the tank. A pre-set signal, representative of the empty weight of the tank, is subtracted from the gross weight signal, resulting in a signal which is proportional to the net weight, or the contents of the tank.
