  • Patent number: 5208920
Abstract: The present discloses an adjustment system for forming a repeatedly adjustable hem on a garment. There is provided an adjustment mechanism consisting of a cord with one end that is attached to the garment's inside hem while the other end is looped threaded through a holding pocket or channel that is secured to the garment's inside seam. The loop of cord above the holding pocket or channel is then preferably knotted. A fabric lining piece containing one or two lining windows is attached to the garment over the adjustment mechanism. Adjustment is made by opening the lining window, grasping the adjustment mechanism's loop and pulling it until the hem has turned up the prescribed amount. The loop is then placed back inside the lining window. The bloused lining is smoothed, the garment is pressed, and the adjustment is complete and undetectable.

  • Patent number: 5208923
Abstract: An improved swimming pool water flow system for filtering in and intermittently heating the pool water, and for interrupting water flow through the heat exchanger when no heating is required. The system improvement includes an improved water flow arrangement wherein pool water is drawn from the pool and, encountering a filter or chlorinator, is selectively diverted at a predetermined pool water outlet temperature into the heat exchanger. The water pump is thus used to pull water through the heat exchanger in counter circulating fashion only when the thermostat sensing pool water outlet temperature opens a control valve in the water flow path between the heat exchanger and the pump.

  • Patent number: 5208940
Abstract: A device for removing liquid and small particulate matter from various surfaces is provided. The device includes a single compartmentalized enclosure supporting a rechargeable battery, a vacuum source and an airflow booster system for drying the surface. As liquid and particulate matter are vacuumed via a hose or other vacuum director, they are trapped in a removable reservoir container which may be detached from the device for emptying and cleaning. The exhaust air produced from the resident vacuum system may be accelerated by a booster system which redirects accelerated airflow through a set of louvers toward the damp spot left by the removed liquid. The booster system may be used individually, without the aide of exhaust airflow from the vacuum, to also effect such drying of the surface. The device also has attached a signal system to alert passersby of the hazard created by the damp surface supporting the device in the preferred embodiment.

Abstract: A buckle for receiving a locking tongue connected to a seat belt has a passage into which the tongue is movable and a locking member movable in the passage. The locking member is movable into and out of locking engagement with the tongue when the tongue is received in the passage. The buckle also has an unlocking member and a lever arm. The unlocking member is movable relative to the locking member, and moves the locking member out of engagement with the tongue when the unlocking member is moving relative to the locking member. The lever are has a handle portion and a cam surface. The cam surface is pivotally movable in sliding contact with the unlocking member to move the unlocking member relative to the locking member upon pivotal movement of the handle portion in a first direction away from the passage.

  • Patent number: 5208954
Abstract: Machine for the automated fitting of insulative foam inserts into the cores of masonry building blocks includes a frame for straddling, in superposed relation, a masonry block conveyor. The machine has a magazine section for sequentially feeding pairs of laterally compressible inserts linked together in juxtaposed relation by a frangible web of the foam material. The machine includes a vertically reciprocal tamping mechanism for moving each of the linked-pairs of inserts sequentially from the magazine section into the cavities of building blocks being carried on the block conveyor disposed below the machine. The machine further includes adjacent throat channels vertically aligned with the tamping mechanism and with the cores of each building block positioned to receive the inserts therein. The channels are each defined, in part, by a central wedge having its apex disposed upwardly to sever the web and separate the linked-pair of inserts as each is moved through the channels past the wedge.

Abstract: A roll, specifically a paper machine press roll, with a hollow rotatable roll body features a roll shell and on at least one of its two ends a hollow roll journal. A guide body which is stationary or fastened to the roll body extends through the interior of the roll body and forms with the roll shell a channel system through which a tempering medium flows. For purposes of using air as tempering medium, a pressure blower and/or a suction blower are connected to the channel system. The channel system and the blower(s) are so dimensioned that an air flow velocity above 10 m/sec will materialize in the channel system.

  • Patent number: 5208956
Abstract: A controlled deflection roll for use in calenders and like machines has a non-rotatable carrier for a hollow cylindrical shell the end portions of which are rotatable on bearings and the central portion of which surrounds hydraulically operated shell deforming elements. A first hydraulic circuit is provided to supply heated oil to the deforming elements, and a second hydraulic circuit serves to feed lubricant to the bearings. The two circuits are separated from each other by thermal barriers which are installed between the shell and the carrier intermediate the deforming elements and the bearings. Valves and/or flow restrictors are provided in the second circuit to vary the rate of feed of lubricant to and/or the flow of lubricant from the bearings. This renders it possible to establish a desired temperature profile along the full length of the peripheral surface of the shell.

Abstract: An offset pin puller apparatus usable with a fluid-operated actuator tool for exerting an axial pulling force on a grooved fastener pin projecting through a workpiece. Jaws mounted within the apparatus are held against axial motion while an associated collet moves axially to cam the jaws into clamped engagement with the fastener pin. The jaws are released from the fastener pin by abutment of a jaw release assembly with an inner wall of the apparatus. Such abutment effects an axial and radial separation of the jaws from the collet during a return stroke of the actuation tool.

Abstract: In a plate replacing apparatus for a printing press, a plate lockup opening/closing unit opens/closes leading- and trailing-side plate lockup devices upon pivotal movement of a cam shaft. A loader drive unit drives a loader on the plate replacing apparatus between an operation position where a distal end portion of the loader comes close to the plate lockup devices and a storage position where the distal end portion of the loader is separated from the plate lockup devices. A plate removal unit grips an old plate released from the plate lockup devices and inserted into the loader upon rotation of the plate cylinder, and moves the old plate into the loader. • Patent number: 5208963
Abstract: A die member for joining a fastener to a panel includes a generally rectangular opening defined by two spaced apart opposed end walls, which receive the end walls of a pilot portion of a fastener. The end walls of the opening terminate into arcuate corners and are adapted to sheer and deform the pilot end walls of the fastener thereby forming bearing panel support abutments capable of providing a liquid tight seal between the panel and the fastener. The die member also includes clinching lips on opposed sides of the die opening. The clinching lips preferably include a top portion and tapered wall which deform the panel edges into grooved openings in the fastener thereby providing a liquid tight seal. The die opening is surrounded by a generally planar surface having an outer generally rectangular perimeter having generally arcuate corners. The generally arcuate corners form arcuate depressions within the panel when the die member operates on the fastener to attach it to the panel.

Abstract: A water heater construction and method includes arranging the inner water tank and the surrounding outer shell in an inverted orientation and positioning the outer shell into a cover which is arranged with clearance openings for the plumbing connections extending from the top of the tank to extend therethrough. With the tank, shell and cover in an inverted and assembled condition, the annular clearance space defined between the tank and shell is filled, at least the majority, with liquid, foam-in-place insulation. By inverting the water heater and injecting liquid foam insulation material, the clearance space above the inner water tank is foamed first thereby assuring that the foam material at this location will have greater uniformity in foam density and cell structure than at the lower portion of the annular space so as to provide enhanced thermal efficiency at the most critical location.
