Abstract: A new and distinct cultivar of Chrysanthemum plant named Whisper is provided. The new cultivar was the result of a controlled breeding program wherein an unnamed plant designated 84.824 was pollinated by an unnamed plant designated 84.762. More specifically, the new cultivar forms attractive relatively small bicolored flowers wherein the petals are pink and the disc florets a yellow changing to white with full maturity. The inflorescence tends to be flat in configuration when mature. The plant is vigorous and forms attractive dark green foliage. The response period of the flowers in approximately eight and one-half weeks. Resistance to white rust is exhibited. • Patent number: PP8371
Abstract: Poinsettia `529` is an early flowering cultivar with dark red flower bracts. It has dark green, medium size foliage, stiff stems and a strong branching habit. Cultivar `529` has traits which differ from `Lilo` (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 6,694) and make `529` a more desirable plant for commercial pot plant production. Namely, cultivar `529` is earlier flowering, shorter, stiffer stemmed, freer branching, with brighter red bracts and improved post-production keeping qualities compared to `Lilo`. It is also less prone to "splitting".

  • Patent number: RE34374
Abstract: An adjustable template device for positioning over a sheet material for use in framing and cutting the sheet material to a selected shape comprising a plurality of slidably interconnected frame members forming a closed polygon. Each frame member comprises a guide edge for guiding a cutting blade and a socket adjacent one end of the guide edge for slidably receiving a portion of an adjacent frame member so that the guide edges of adjacent frame members form the sides and one corner of the polygon formed by the device. Each of the guide means has a plurality of detents which are engageable by a pin associated with each socket to retard relative sliding of adjacent frame members. The guide edges are preferably provided with a plurality of slots for receiving a cutting blade so that a cutting blade can extend in the slots to fully cut the corners formed by the frame members. At least some of these slots are positioned relative to the detents to ensure alignment with the adjacent cutting edge.

  • Patent number: RE34375
Abstract: A control system for controlling the operation of an apparatus for growing tubular crystalline bodies. The control system comprises a weight sensor for measuring the weight of the crystal, a length sensor for measuring the length of the crystal, a pressure sensor for measuring the pressure inside the crystal, and a controller coupled to the weight, length and pressure sensors for controlling the operation of the crystal growing apparatus. The controller is coupled to the die heater of the apparatus for controlling the temperature of melt contained in the crucible of the apparatus based on the outputs of the weight, length and pressure sensors. To ensure the wall of the tubular crystalline body is maintained at a substantially uniform thickness, precise measurement of the weight of the body must be made. Compensation is provided by this invention for weight measurement errors that are created by pressure fluctuations within the tubular crystalline body.

  • Patent number: RE34378
Abstract: A light emitting device is disclosed which includes a semiconductor block, an active layer disposed in such a fashion as to penetrate through the mutually facing end surfaces of the semiconductor block, and an electrode disposed on the main plane of the semiconductor block, wherein the electrode consists of a first electrode portion disposed along the active layer, and a second electrode portion continuing integrally the first electrode portion and having the periphery thereof out of contact from the periphery of the second main plane of the semiconductor block. A current is caused to uniformly flow through the entire active layer, and a light emitting operation is carried out stably. Since the electrode is not disposed on the periphery of the semiconductor block, the occurrence of junction short-curcuit, which might otherwise occur when a wafer is cut off to produce laser chips or when the corners of the chip break off, can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 5243710
Abstract: As is well-known in the prior art, flexible elongate rope-like tethers have a leadward-end attached to a leadwardly-impelled aquamarine equipment (e.g. surfboard, towed water-ski, etc.) and having a trailward-end securely attached to the towed operator (e.g. a surfboarder, a water-skier, etc.). It is also well known in the prior art that the aquamarine's tethered operator might find himself/herself in a visually discernible perilous situation and wherein the elongate tether should be disengaged from the towing aquamarine device. Accordingly, the present invention provides a vertical-pin type releasably-lockable device that has the required secure attachment to the operator's body, but wherein the operator can manually vertically withdraw the vertical-pin portion of a releasable-lockable device to quickly withdraw himself/herself from the leadwardly tethered aquamarine equipment whenever the operator somehow discerns a perilous condition.
