  • Patent number: 5253372
Abstract: An apparatus for dispensing measured lengths of a sleeve material upon an armature, especially adapted for dispensing a plastic cover upon a toilet seat, includes a source of sleeve material fed onto the armature and collected upon a take-up reel. The cover is provided with a uniform series of marks along its length which are sensed and counted to control the operation of a motor drive which directs the sleeve material to and from the armature. Timer circuits are employed to cause motor cut-off if the required length of sleeve is not dispensed within a given length of time and to inhibit motor start for a fixed period after a dispensation. The sleeve-accepting end of the armature may include an angular horn to permit the sleeve to smoothly pass onto the seat.

  • Patent number: 5253381
Abstract: A cargo ramp for an aircraft is constructed of two segments which are hinged together so that they may articulate about the ramp pitch axis. The first of the two segments is hinged to the cargo bed of the aircraft so that it may articulate relative to the cargo bed, again in pitch. The second segment abuts a surface to or from which cargo is to be transferred. The hinged ramp permits straight-across loading and unloading of cargo onto vehicles which have cargo bed heights different than the cargo bed height of the aircraft. In a modified embodiment, the ramp also compensates for a differential roll angle between the second ramp segment and the vehicle cargo bed. In this embodiment, the hinge connection between the two ramp segments permits relative motion of the second segment with respect to the first segment about its roll axis, as well as in pitch.

  • Patent number: 5253384
Abstract: An electric buffing machine and a method buffing waxed floors are disclosed. The buffing machine comprises a molded plastic housing, a foldable handle and a DC drive motor directly driving a buffing pad holder. The pad is movable into and out of engagement with the floor by a pad lifter mechanism which raises and lowers the pad holder along a splined drive shaft of the drive motor. The pad lifter mechanism comprises a reversible motor mounted to the housing and connected to the pad holder by means of a threaded output shaft which supports a lifter arm rotatably connected to the pad holder. Rotation of the threaded shaft in one direction or the other moves the lifter arm into which the shaft is threaded together with the pad holder and pad up or down relative to the floor. By observing the current draw of the drive motor, control of pad pressure may be achieved. The pad holder design provides a directed air flow into the housing to collect dust, dirt and debris generated by the buffing operation.

These perforations are sized slightly smaller that the solid catalyst particles used in the reactor in order to screen out these solid particles and prevent their flow or movement into the downcomer from the reactor. As a result of the perforated downcomer, any liquid separated from the fluidized medium and collected in the downcomer will flow back through these perforations and into the reactor when the ebullating bed is operating at its normal level; however, when the ebullating bed is operating at an upset level condition, the liquid in this fluidized medium will flow in the opposite direction and will pass through these perforations into the downcomer in order to maintain a minimum flow to the ebullating pumps.

  • Patent number: 5253404
Abstract: Apparatus for drawing-in warp yarns into the gaps of a weaving reed includes a reed hook (22) for sequentially opening the reed gaps for the insertion of a draw-in member carrying a warp yarn, and a transport system for the stepwise transport of the weaving reed in its longitudinal direction past the reed hook location. The transport system has a first transport member (BW) extending over the length of the weaving reed and coupled to this in the operating state is a gripper-like second transport member (48, 49) for intermittent engagement with the first transport member (BW). As a result of this arrangement, the two functions of reed transport and reed opening are decoupled and can each be optimized independently. This allows the draw-in frequency to be increased. Moreover, the reed hook and reed teeth are given maximum protection.

In each gripping member, the jaw extends perpendicularly from the rod and is curved towards the other jaw, the inner surface of each jaw lying along an imaginary arc similar to the arc along which the inner surface of the other jaw lies.

  • Patent number: 5253410
Abstract: A retractable ramp is telescopable to a stowed position within a rearwardly open, longitudinally extending storage chamber within a cargo vehicle frame below a cargo carrying floor therein. It can be pulled from the vehicle, tilted downwardly so that its rear end engages the ground, and then its front end can be raised and connected to the vehicle adjacent the floor of the cargo compartment to serve as an unloading or loading platform for the vehicle floor. The ramp includes carriage arms pivotally connected to the ramp assembly near its front end and extending forwardly into the storage chamber to connect to glides which are slideable along the chamber. A force asserting, weight counterbalancing mechanism is pivotally connected between the carriage arm assembly and the ramp, and positioned to exert power to assist manual movement of the front end of the ramp from an initial position in which it is pulled from the storage chamber to a raised, operatively deployed position attached adjacent the ramp floor.
