  • Patent number: 5280658
Abstract: An insert for a bed with a rigid support frame comprises a slat grating formed of spring slats extending transversely to the longitudinal axis of the bed. Each of the slats includes an upper and a lower strip of substantially equal length disposed on top of one another. The strips are spaced apart by elastic form bodies. Elastic support bodies are disposed below said lower strips for supporting the insert on the rigid frame. The support bodies are disposed below the ends of the lower strips and below the center of the for supporting the slats. Advantageously, the form bodies and support bodies at the ends of the slats are formed integrally as one piece.

  • Patent number: 5280663
Abstract: A floor scrubbing apparatus has rotating pads and a flexible scrubber guard that encompasses the scrubber during floor scrubbing operations. The scrubber guard protects a work area from contact damage and liquid splash. The scrubber guard comprises a flexible wall having a top edge, an arcuate bottom edge, and continuous, vertically extending interior and exterior surfaces. Parallel, latitudinally positioned ribs project outwardly from, and extend around the entire circumference of, the interior surface of the scrubber guard. These ribs increase the scrubber guard's ability to intercept liquid splash. The arcuate bottom edge allows the scrubber guard to lift upwardly, relative to the surface of a floor, when the exterior surface encounters a vertical structure such as a wall. The arcuate bottom edge also inhibits power cord entanglement with the rotating cleaning pads.

  • Patent number: 5280669
Abstract: When the connection of the buckle main body A with the tongue is to be released during normal operation, the operating member is operated and is moved to the position where the engagement of the tongue with the latch member can be released. In this case, the locking member can be moved toward the position where the engagement of the tongue with the latch member can be released, and the locking member is perfectly moved to the position where the engagement of the tongue with the latch member can be released by the operating member. When impact is applied on the buckle unit, control device prevents the locking member from moving toward the position where the engagement of the tongue with the latch member can be released. For this reason, the engagement of the tongue with the latch member cannot be released, and the connection of the buckle main body with the tongue can be maintained.

  • Patent number: 5280670
Abstract: This describes an apparatus for repairing a plastic transport pipe with a defective section while the pipe is under pressure. A pressure vessel encloses the defective section and seals with the pipe. The defective section is cut in two and the defective section drops out into the lower space of the vessel. A repair nipple is then moved into the space between the two cut ends of the pipe. Electrofusion collars are placed over the joint between the insert nipple and the cut ends of the transport pipe. The electrofusion collars are then energized to effect a leakproof joint between the insert nipple and the two ends of the transport pipe. The insert nipple may be any replacement section desired, such as a section with a Tee in it.

  • Patent number: 5280683
Abstract: This invention relates to hand-held light weapon firing devices. To resolve the present problem of the excessive length of the work travel of the firing device trigger, with large frictional surface resistance between the blocking iron and the track, thus directly affecting the precision of firing. It is characterized in that it has a rotating blocking iron, which is fixed to the firing mount by the rotating blocking iron shaft; the rotating blocking iron shaft, the rotating blocking iron shaft hole and the hole in the frame for the rotating blocking iron shaft together forming a rotating assembly. This converts the translational friction of the original blocking iron on the track into rotational friction, the linear translational motion of the original blocking iron becoming the eccentric rotational motion of the rotating blocking iron, reducing the length of travel of the trigger from 6.about.7 mm to 2.about.2.

  • Patent number: 5280685
Abstract: A device for attachment to a tractor or similar vehicle for safe spray application of liquid chemicals around trees or like plants basically includes an elongated boom unit and a multinational spray unit pivoted by its inboard end on the boom unit, formed of an inboard section and an outboard section. The outboard section carries a spray nozzle and is pivoted by its inboard end to the outboard end of the inboard section. Spring members normally bias both sections of the spray unit into alignment with the boom unit, but first allow the inboard section followed, in turn, by the outboard section to move out of such alignment so they partially encircle a tree as the spray unit of the device contacts the trunk of the tree while the tractor moves the device forward and past the tree. Proximity switches and a photocell sense the correct positioning of the tree to emit sprayed chemical from the nozzle only when the spray unit is in contact with the tree.

Abstract: In a method of conditioning crop which is continuously processed by means of movable tools of at least one driven tool carrier, the components of the crop are introduced into spaces between the movable tools of the same tool carrier before at least the stalks are squeezed by the tools by narrowing the interspaces, and the components are subsequently discharged by increasing the interspaces again. In the apparatus for carrying out the method, tools (W) are elongated and shaped in the form of rods, fingers or bristles and are arranged on tool carrier (T) with interspaces (Z) approximately in parallel with each other and at a predetermined adjusted density (G1) at which transverse distances (a1) of at least stalk thickness (d) exist between adjacent tools (W).

Abstract: The fruit picker separates a fruit, positioned within an intake end opening of a hollow tube, from its stem by extending a blade across the opening. With the stem forced against the wall of the opening, the tube is moved to separate the stem from the fruit. The movement causes the fruit to fall by gravity inside the tube through a discharge end to which a collection bottle is connected.

  • Patent number: 5280698
Abstract: There is provided a thread splicing arrangement having a splicing head with a splicing channel. In the vicinity of the ends of the channel, holding devices can clamp the ends of the threads during the splicing, and cutting arrangements can cut the free ends of the threads. The holding devices hold the threads near the base of the splicing channel. Pressurized gas channels are provided on both sides of the middle of the splicing channel. The outlets of these gas channels are located in the channel base and extend on both sides of a longitudinal plane of symmetry of the splicing channel. The axes of the pressurized gas channels approach that plane of symmetry at equal but opposite angles. This leads to a simple mode of construction providing good splicing for various different thread materials.

  • Patent number: 5280701
Abstract: The invention comprises an apparatus and method for high pressure treatment of wastes without the addition of excess oxygen and without interference by corrosive deposits. Waste materials are suspended or dissolved in a processing fluid. The pressure of the fluid is raised to a pressure in the range of from about 70 psig to about 5,000 psig. A boiler is then used to heat the high pressure fluid to temperatures above the critical temperature. Solids within the boiler participate in fluidized bed particle scrubbing technology in order to minimize the fouling and corrosion occurring within the boilers during heating. From at least a portion of the vapors produced by the heating in the boiler, net energy output is produced. Useful byproducts can be produced from the vapors.

Abstract: A gas turbine engine comprised of a gas generator in flow series arrangement with a free turbine is provided, that includes a bleed port disposed between the gas generator and the free turbine. The flow of hot gas through the free turbine is controlled by a valve operably disposed in a duct downstream of the bleed port. The gas turbine engine can rapidly change its power output by first bleeding a portion of the hot gas exiting the gas generator overboard, and then increasing or decreasing the amount of bleed flow, thereby producing rapid changes in the free turbine's output.

  • Patent number: 5280703
Abstract: Difficulties in cooling the vanes or blades (46) making up a turbine nozzle (40) in a gas turbine may be minimized or eliminated by placing interior passages (62) of the blades or vanes (46) in fluid communication with the compressor (14) and providing outlet passages (64) for the passages (62) in the rear turbine shroud (42). The passages (64) are preferably angled so that their downstream ends (68) open downstream. Consequently, eductor or ejector-like formations are present and when cooling air for a combustor (30) flowing in a cooling air path (28) passes across the ends (68), a region of lower pressure is formed to positively assure the flow of cooling air through the vanes or blades (46).
