  • Patent number: 5289601
Abstract: A waterbed mattress having an inner frame formed with a bladder cavity encircled by an outer foam frame which covers the bladder cavity and extends downwardly to define the sides and ends of the mattress. An interlocking complementary protrusion and recess connection are interposed between the inner and outer frames to permit the peripheral portion of the outer frame and inner frames to be lifted sufficiently that bedding may be tucked thereunder. The outer frame is then lowered and the weight of the bladder is transferred by the connection to the outer frame so as to securely hold the bedding in place. The connection is releasable to permit the upper frame to be lifted off the lower frame for access to the bladder cavity.

  • Patent number: 5289611
Abstract: An extractor having a cleaning solution line which extends from the solution tank to a non-self-priming pump and to the normally closed valve which controls the flow of liquid on to the cleaning head. The extractor uses a manually operated priming pump to draw cleaning solution from the solution tank through the cleaning solution line to the non-self-priming pump. Following activation of the manually operated priming pump, a check valve directs the cleaning solution to the operating non-self-priming pump to effect priming of said pump. Solution is then controlably pumped past the fluid flow control valve to the cleaning head. The check valve remains open while the pump is in operation.

  • Patent number: 5289626
Abstract: A method and apparatus for securing a foundation anchor to a foundation wall. Tension members comprising the foundation anchor are individually fixed to a plurality of stacked anchor plates positioned over an access hole in a foundation wall by use of threaded fasteners. The method comprises inserting each tension member through an anchor plate hole and separately fixing each tension member to at least one anchor plate. A plurality of tension members are permitted to be threaded with threaded fasteners in a manner calculated to reduce the bearing load exerted on the threaded fasteners. • Patent number: 5289630
Abstract: For attaining adhesion between copper circuitry innerlayers and pre-preg layers in a multilayer printed circuit, a conversion coating of copper oxide is provided on the metallic copper surfaces in a manner which develops an altered topography of the underlying metallic copper surfaces. Thereafter, a controlled dissolution and removal of a substantial amount of the copper oxide is effected, in a manner which does not adversely affect the already-developed topography of the underlying metallic copper, and such that the innerlayer, at the time of assembly with the pre-preg layers, has copper surfaces consisting of the topographically altered metallic copper and a relatively small amount of copper oxide thereon. Excellent bonding strengths are achieved with decreased incidence of pink ring formation as compared to conventional processes utilizing copper oxide for adhesion promotion.

  • Patent number: 5289638
Abstract: A can opener for opening cans of the type having a lid joined to the main body by a rim formed of inner and outer lid surfaces folded onto the upper edge of a can wall. A toothed drive wheel rotatably mounted on a housing engages the inner surface of the rim and forces the outer rim surface against a cutter wheel when a drive shaft is rotated by a turning handle. The turning handle is threaded onto the drive shaft so that rotating the handle both rotates the drive wheel and pulls it tightly against the housing which holds a rotatably mounted cutting wheel. This cuts through the outer lid surface to free the lid from the can. The cutting wheel has an outwardly flaring upper cutting edge and the drive wheel has a curved surface for contacting the inner margin of the rim. The two surfaces coact to force the upper cut surface outwardly and the lower cut surface inwardly. Consequently, as the lid is cut free, it is flared outwardly from the can wall for ease of manual removal and replacement.

  • Patent number: 5289639
Abstract: A new apparatus for treating substrates with fluids, as well as a corresponding fluid treatment method, is disclosed. The new apparatus includes a new configuration of fluid jet injectors which substantially overcomes the problem of dragout, in which fluid impinged upon an area of a substrate is retained on that area, preventing fresh fluid from reaching the impinged area. This new configuration also avoids imposing torques on substrates, and substantially reduces the need for rollers and guides for transporting substrates.

  • Patent number: 5289640
Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for preferentially separating a high vapor pressure component from a low vapor pressure component, wherein at least a portion of each component is volatilized from a matrix. A matrix, such as a sludge contaminated with volatilizable organic materials, is directed through a housing by a screw conveyor. Heat is applied to the matrix in an amount sufficient to volatilize at least a portion of the high and low vapor pressure components. A portion of a high vapor pressure component volatilizes at an inlet end of the housing while a portion of a low vapor pressure component volatilizes at an outlet end of the housing. The volatilized components are then preferentially separated by a hot gas, which is discharged over the matrix from a gas inlet tube, through separate outlet ports. The volatilizable components of the matrix are thereby preferentially separated.

Abstract: A chemical vapor trap for selectively removing harmful corrosive contaminants, such as water and acetic acid vapors, from an evacuating vapor phase in a vacuum drying system is provided. The chemical vapor trap includes a condenser section effective to convert a high temperature incoming heated sample liquids and heated vapor phase into a liquid phase condensate and a relatively lower room temperature stripped vapor phase. Liquid condensate including water and acetic acid are trapped below a chemical blanket or sealing layer which prevents re-vaporization or boiling of removed corrosive volatile contaminants from the vapor phase entering the vacuum pumps, promoting improved pump performance and extend pump service life.
