A computer arm carried by the input hub oscillates along a specified arc about the axis of the hub between an initial position and a travel limiting cam surface positioned in response to temperature changes. An adjustably settable connection is provided between the arm and the hub for selectively pivoting said arm about said hub to position the outer end of the arm in a selectively set angular position relative to said hub and along the arc. In this position the outer end of the arm is held so as to precisely register with the initial position of the arc at the start of each oscillation.

Abstract: A multi-electrode capacitive apparatus for measuring multi-phase flows comprising a pipe through which the flow is directed having the electrodes, typically ten in number, disposed around an outer surface thereof, sensing means being provided for connection to each electrode by means of a switching arrangement, the switching arrangement being operable to vary the connections of the electrodes to the sensing means such that the electric field seen within the pipe rotates; averaging means being provided to determine the average capacitance measured over an integer number of rotations. The pipe can be formed from a material having substantially the same dielectric constant as the flowing material and is of sufficient thickness to optimise the angular sensitivity of the device for flow at the pipe wall. Typically, the internal radius of the pipe is about 0.7 of the radius of the electrode arrangement.

  • Patent number: 5291794
Abstract: A method for monitoring mechanical power transmission systems is disclosed, wherein the power transmission system includes at least one power transmitting element, and which is characterized for a reliable and simple measurement of elongations on the power transmitting element by the following steps: First two substantially parallel planes are established on the unstressed power transmitting element, each plane being defined by at least three space coordinates or respectively measuring points on the power transmitting element. Then, the relative change in position of the two planes to one another is determined on the stressed power transmitting element. Finally, the determined relative change in position of the planes is correlated with the local elongation or compression on the power transmitting element. An apparatus for carrying out the method is likewise described.

Abstract: In a geared motor for a self-traveling carrier, a projected area in an advancing direction of the carrier is made small to reduce the space required around a track. Despite the fact that the geared motor being is a single type of a geared motor (the same geared motor), it is possible to select a suitable mounting mode from among various mounting modes, thus permitting a smoother operation of a physical distribution system as a whole. For example, in a geared motor for a self-traveling carrier, a reduction mechanism housed in a gear box incorporates an output shaft with a wheel mounted thereon, an output shaft gear, an intermediate shaft disposed in parallel with the output shaft, an intermediate pinion and a hypoid gear both mounted on the intermediate shaft, and a hypoid pinion mounted on a motor shaft. The motor shaft is disposed between the intermediate shaft and the output shaft orthogonally thereto.
