  • Patent number: 5315897
Abstract: An engine speed control system causes an engine, equipped with an automatic transmission which shifts up according to predetermined shift schedules, to reduce its output at a predetermined engine speed so as to protect the engine by preventing the engine from being subjected to "over-revolution." The predetermined engine speed is changed according to engine operating conditions such as a decrease in engine temperature. Simultaneously, a shift-up vehicle speed, at which the automatic transmission shifts itself up, is decreased according to engine operating conditions and, more particularly, engine temperatures and throttle openings. As a result, an up-shift of the automatic transmission properly takes place, even when the vehicle travels at lower speeds.

  • Patent number: 5315921
Abstract: A method and apparatus for dehydrating waste food material. The food material is initially ground to a relatively small particle size and transferred to a porous container or basket in a cooking vessel. The vessel contains a quantity of oil, preferably waste cooking oil, and the oil is maintained at a level beneath the basket. The oil is heated and the heated oil is circulated from the lower end of the vessel and returned to the upper end of the vessel where it flows downwardly through the food material to vaporize the moisture and kill the bacteria in the food material. The circulation of the hot oil is continued for a period sufficient to fully dehydrate the food material and produce a dried product that can be used as an animal feed adjunct.

Abstract: A round baler includes an expansible, upwardly converging wedge shaped bale chamber having an opening at its bottom and being formed in part by first and second belt runs that respectively converge upwardly from first and second belt support rolls respectively located at the front and rear of the inlet opening. Expansion of the baling chamber works against a downwardly biased tensioning frame pivotally mounted to opposite side walls, the first and second belt runs extending between a fixed and a pivotal roll carried by the frame with the pivotal roll being controlled to move closer to the fixed roll as the tensioning frame is forced upwardly by a growing bale. A fingered rake structure bridges the gap between the fixed and pivotal rolls to keep crop material from exiting the chamber.

  • Patent number: 5315928
Abstract: An impact printer has a print band moving longitudinally around pulleys with one side of the band moving in contact along a rigid platen and the other side having engraved characters presented along a print line of a print medium (e.g. paper and ink ribbon). The leading edge of platen is squared off (e.g. sharp) to scrape contamination off the band. A row of hammers impact the print medium against the band between the hammers and an impact surface of the platen. The impact surface of the platen contains multiple longitudinal grooves which start slightly back from the leading edge of the platen and which prevent increased friction force between the band and platen from occurring as the band wears the platen impact surface smooth.

  • Patent number: 5315933
Abstract: A method of separating a sub-combat unit from a protective canister. The method comprises the steps of discharging the sub-combat unit from the protective canister by causing a displacement of a driving sabot within the protective canister. The driving sabot is displaced by an elevated gas pressure generated by the combustion of a gas-generating pyrotechnical charge. The displacement of the sabot imparts a trajectory to the sub-combat unit. The displaceable driving sabot is prevented, by arrest means interconnected between the driving sabot and the canister, from accompanying the sub-combat unit in its new trajectory. A division of the protective canister into a plurality of parts is caused. The division ensures a change in at least one of the trajectory and the velocity of the parts of the canister.

Abstract: Constant contact side bearing support of a rail car body on a multi-axle rail car truck is provided for the purpose of restraining truck hunting and controlling car rocking. A bearing receiver or cage mounted on the truck bolster in laterally offset relationship to the truck center plate bowl supports wedge shaped bearing blocks on inclined surfaces within the cage. Biasing means, e.g., a long travel coil spring, biases the bearing blocks against the inclined surfaces of the cage, thereby maintaining a substantially constant normal bearing force on the car body throughout the wear life of the bearings. In an alterative embodiment, the cage is mounted on the car body with the bearing surfaces of the bearing blocks engaging corresponding bearing surfaces on the bolster. Arrangements providing for ease of inspection and replacement of the bearing blocks are disclosed.
