  • Patent number: 5339502
Abstract: A textured yarn is directed through a path in which the textured yarn plug forms a loop in which the direction of the yarn plug is changed and the speed of the yarn plug is increased via a draw-off bobbin. The yarn plug within the loop is loosened and the resulting yarn is stretched to form a yarn which can be wound up. The deflection loop in which the yarn plug is loosened is stable depending upon an appropriate choice of speeds between the speed at which the plug is guided into the loop and the speed at which the yarn is drawn from the loop. The deflection loop need not be supported by any mechanical devices.

  • Patent number: 5339504
Abstract: A tool turret includes a turret housing and a turret head rotatably mounted in and relative to the turret housing to selectable angular positions about a rotational axis. A preliminary indexing bolt secures the turret head in one of the angular positions following movement of the turret head between angular positions. A three-phase synchronous motor forms a rotary drive for the turret head and has at least first and second sets of pole pairs. The first set provides a first indexing speed. The second set has a smaller number of pole pairs then the first set and provides a second indexing speed. An interlocking member securely interlocks the turret head in any of angular positions.

  • Patent number: 5339505
Abstract: The present invention provides a band-clamping apparatus, which is capable of automatically clamping clamping bands wound. In the apparatus, a holding table holds a member to be clamped, which has been wound by the clamping band. A stopper prevents the clamping band on the member to be clamped, which has been held by the holding table, from moving, and the stopper is capable of contacting the holding pieces from the opposite side of a lever. A pushing arm turns the lever onto an outer face of a band section. A bending mechanism inwardly bends the holding pieces so as to secure the lever onto the outer face of the band section when the lever is located between the holding pieces. With the band-clamping apparatus of the present invention, manufacturing efficiency can be sharply raised, the clamping work can be executed safely, and the clamping strength can be maintain in the predetermined range.

  • Patent number: 5339509
Abstract: A method and apparatus is employed for forming an attachment of a threaded fastener or other item to a deformable sheet material by a clinching technique, preferably without shearing the sheet material in the area of the interlocking attachment of the fastener with the sheet material. As a result, a secure, interlocked, joint is formed to which other items can be threadably secured, with such joint being leakproof in some embodiments. Such leakproof fastener assembly is especially advantageous in the manufacture of fluid-containing products or other applications where a leakproof construction is necessary or desirable. In other embodiments, however, where such leakproof feature is not needed or is undesirable, the invention still provides an improved, secure, interlocked attachment of a fastener to a sheet material item, wherein the sheet material item is a single layer item or a multiple layer item.

  • Patent number: 5339532
Abstract: A fish measuring device is described which has a fish support surface with a length, width and first and second ends opposite one another. A stop at the first end prevents movement of a fish lengthwise beyond the first end and at least two fish restraining members at least partially along the length of the fish support surface partially enclose or envelope an interior space with the fish support surface. A passage exists between the two fish restraining members to permit a fishing line and/or thumb and forefinger holding a fish to be brought therethrough to the stop. A live fish may be brought into the device while still hooked via the line or after being unhooked. While the fish is restrained in its movement, its length may be compared against the end of the support surface or a scale therein to determine its length.

Abstract: A bone-stiffness measuring instrument comprises a set or kit of readily assembled and adjusted components, namely a goniometer, a light-weight load cell, and a small computer package, adapted to continuously respond to the outputs of the load cell and goniometer and to display and/or record (i.e., store) measured stiffness data; plus hardware in duplicate, namely, a bone-screw clamp and bracket for fixed reference to bone-screws that are externally exposed on each of the respective sides of the fracture (following removal of an external fixator), a stiff arcuate arm member of radius at least twice the diameter of the fractured bone, and a goniometer-end mount. The arcuate arm member is adjustably fixed to the bracket for bone-screw reference, and the goniometer-end mount is also adjustably fixed to the arcuate arm member, with a releasably lockable ball-joint connection for adjusted orientation of an end mounting to the goniometer.

  • Patent number: 5339534
Abstract: A device for measuring warpage of a surface is disclosed including a rigid support plate having first and second guide tracks attached thereto. A resiliently flexible band extends between the first and second guide tracks and includes first and second guides attached at ends of the band. A dial indicator is mounted to the rigid support plate for measuring deflection of the resiliently flexible band relative to the plate, wherein the dial indicator includes a probe attached to the flexible band for detecting deflection of the band relative to the plate. The flexible band resiliently deflects to conform to a warped surface when placed thereagainst, and the first and second guides reciprocate in the guide tracks as the band deflects to allow the band to conform to the warped surface. The band is of a predetermined length such that the dial indicator indicates deflection of the flexible band as a function of the predetermined length.

  • Patent number: 5339535
Abstract: A touch probe for use on a coordinate positioning machine includes a stylus module and a sensing module securable to a movable arm of the positioning machine for releasably supporting the stylus module. The sensing module can include a sensor for detecting contact between the stylus and a surface and/or for detecting displacement of the stylus module relative to the movable arm. The stylus includes a support structure, releasably supported by the stylus module, and a stylus-supporting member for supporting the stylus, with the stylus-supporting member being biased into a rest position with respect to the support structure. The stylus-supporting member is displaceable from the rest position and relative to the support structure when a deflection force acts on the stylus, and returns to the rest position when the deflecting force is removed.

  • Patent number: 5339536
Abstract: Apparatus for indicating a predetermined snap-off between a circuit board and a stencil in a solder paste printing process for printed circuit boards. The apparatus includes a triangular shaped plate having a lever member, where a portion of the lever member extends through a stencil hole for engaging the circuit board. The plate further includes two support members for resting on top of the stencil. The centroid of the weight of the plate is between the two support members and the lever member to urge the plate to pivot about the two support members. On the end opposite the two support members is an indicator cone for indicating the predetermined snap-off of the circuit board relative to the stencil. Advantageously a method for positioning the stencil and the circuit board at a predetermined snap-off during the solder paste printing process for printed circuit boards is also disclosed.
