  • Patent number: 5373647
Abstract: A method and a system serve to completely or partially dehydrate sludge by evaporation which originates from e.g. sewage. The sludge is dried with addition of heat in a drying chamber (2), the sludge being transported on an endless travelling grate (3) from an inlet opening (8) in the drying chamber (2) to a discharge opening (9) in it. The sludge is deposited on the grate in a plurality of juxtaposed sludge strings (18) by means of an extruder (6), in which the sludge is preheated to almost 100.degree. C. prior to extrusion. The extruded strings (18) are then heated with such an intensity that the water in the sludge immediately begins to boil, and that a zone of preferably saturated water steam is formed at any rate in the immediate vicinity of the sludge. This provides a light and porous, dried sludge product which is in no way either burnt or scorched, and which constitutes excellent fuel as well as excellent compost.

  • Patent number: 5373648
Abstract: A process and apparatus are disclosed for drying solid materials, which allows the thermal energy used for drying to be recovered and the emissions produced during degassing and gasification to be reduced. A solid material which contains an evaporable material, particularly water, is fed to a fluidized bed drier. The solid material is fluidized by fluidizing medium, the fluidizing medium being the evaporable material. The dried solid material is removed from the drier and is fed to further processing, use or disposal. The non-condensable components of the solid material which are insoluble in the condensate of the evaporable material are separated by cooling and condensation of the vapor and released for subsequent use or disposal.

  • Patent number: 5373657
Abstract: A sight apparatus is formed of a small housing having a curved top and an internally disposed chamber which is intended to be positioned generally at the location of a normal front sight as used with firearms intended for shooting remote targets. The housing incorporates a switchable light emitter such as an LED of substantial brightness which is positioned adjacent a small collimation chamber and exit aperture pointed parallel with the gun barrel axis toward the shooter's eye station. The brightness of this emitter output is selected with respect to the brightness of the ambient suround about the target so as to achieve enhanced brightness contour via physiological lateral inhibition within the shooter's eye. There then results a sharp sighting imagewhich represents gun tip positional data to the shooter. This data is available to the shooter even though both eyes are focused at the remote field of the target, generally at infinity, and defocused at the tip of the gun barrel.

  • Patent number: 5373672
Abstract: The present invention relates to an arrangement of mounting sections for the fastening of a pane of glass, particularly an outer wall or roof glazing, on a facade substructure. The edge of a pane of glass is to be gripped in firm application by a mounting section and nevertheless the danger of the breaking of the edge of the pane of glass is to be avoided. For this purpose, each mounting section is so developed, arranged or supported outside the edge of the pane of glass that, upon a bending of the pane, it carries out a predetermined turning movement around an axis of turn lying parallel to the edge of the pane of glass and outside of it. Furthermore, each mounting section is so developed with flexural elasticity in combination with the facade substructure bearing it or the play between mounting section and substructure that it can yield, following a bending of the edge of the pane of glass, within certain limits.

  • Patent number: 5373686
Abstract: An apparatus is described for hooping a package (8) by means of a band (19) in a hooping plane (5) extending in the conveying direction (4). The band guide channel (7) comprises two portions (10, 13) which lie on opposite sides of the hooping plane (5) and each of which is situated at so great a distance from the hooping plane (5) that they do not impede the conveying movement of the package (8). The portions (10, 13) are joined together, on opposite sides of the package (8), by other portions (9, 11 and 12) which pass through the hooping plane (5). In a position turned through 90.degree., in which the hooping plane (5) lies parallel to the conveying plane (1), the arrangement can also work as a horizontal hooping apparatus.

The nut harvester being of the type having structure for picking nuts up from the ground and depositing the nuts onto a moving open conveyor chain to carry the nuts for deposit into a storage container. The harvester includes a debris removal system including the fan within the fan housing connected to intake ducting positioned to draw air through the open conveyor chain to draw debris from the nuts into the fan housing to be exhausted out onto the ground. The first and second debris outlets are positioned on opposite sides of the fan housing from one another, approximately 180 degrees apart, and positioned so that debris is discharged to the two oppositely disposed sides of the harvester.

  • Patent number: 5373690
Abstract: With pneumatic feeding of fibers to the fiber collection surface of an open-end spinning element, an auxiliary air stream flowing from the immediate proximity of the feeding device to the inlet into the fiber feeding channel is produced and is sufficiently strong so that it removes circling fiber fragments which have been detached from the opener roller. For this purpose, an air conveying channel is provided in the area between the inlet opening of the fiber feeding channel and the feeding device (as seen in the direction of rotation of the opener roller) in the peripheral wall of the housing. This air conveying channel extends from the immediate proximity of the opening in the housing containing the feeding device in housing to the inlet opening of the fiber feeding channel.

  • Patent number: 5373692
Abstract: A trim system reduces NO.sub.x output from a cannular gas turbine by trimming fuel flow rates to equalize the fuel-air ratio in each combustor can. The system includes a main valve fluidly connected to the fuel inlet of each can and a trim valve fluidly connected to each fuel inlet in parallel with the main valve. Each trim valve has a flow resistance which is about 30-100 times greater than the flow resistance of each main valve. A controller is provided for controlling the opening of the trim valves in response to the level of NO.sub.x emitted from the gas turbine. The controller receives a signal corresponding to the NO.sub.x emissions from a NO.sub.x sensor and outputs suitable control signals to the trim valves. In one preferred control scheme, the controller sequentially perturbs the fuel flow rate to each can and monitors the resulting changes in NO.sub.x emissions. The controller establishes influence coefficients for each combustor can which are defined as the ratio of the change in NO.sub.

  • Patent number: 5373693
Abstract: A burner for gas turbine engines is provided in which a ring-shaped swirling device is coaxially assigned to a fuel nozzle. The swirling device forms tangential ducts for an adjustable feeding of combustion air between profiles arranged along the circumference. In this case, the profiles are to be formed by corresponding sections of components which are arranged to be axially movable relative to one another. One respective section of a profile is to be a hollow body in which the corresponding other section engages in a movable manner. With the burner, a combustion is made possible that is low in pollutants while the swirling efficiency and the rotational swirl development are optimal.
