Abstract: Stiffeners between sabot petals resist bending of a kinetic energy projece, and thereby reduce aiming dispersion. The stiffeners compensate for material removed during the separation of an annular sabot into individual sabot petals, thereby eliminating the need for post-assembly machining to restore a circular perimeter. The stiffeners may extend radially from the surface of the kinetic energy projectile to the gun bore, for direct force carry-through, to reduce flexure and whip. In one embodiment, a thick portion on each stiffener fits into a notch in the abutting sabot petals to strengthen the sabot in a manner similar to an "I" beam.

Abstract: Two Escape Methods for modem control are described, both of which are a form of TIES (Time Independent Escape Sequence). Since TIES is more descriptive of the methodology being used, as opposed to a specific protocol or standard, the present specification describes the protocol used in +++AT<CR> escape sequence (in-band escape) and <BREAK>AT<CR> escape sequence (out-of-band escape).
Abstract: A nonvolatile memory system is disclosed which will store a key or digital word for a period of time of approximately three years with minimum power consumption. The nonvolatile memory system includes a nonvolatile static random access memory for receiving and storing a key word from a loader, and a nonvolatile memory sequence control circuit which provides logic signals for controlling read and write operations of the nonvolatile static RAM, as well as logic signals to allow for transfer or down loading of the key word from the loader to the RAM. In addition, the nonvolatile memory sequence control circuit provides logic signals to interface with an encryption device which allows the key word to be transferrred or up loaded from the nonvolatile static RAM to the encryption device and logic signals for storing the key word in a nonvolatile electrically erasable programmable read only memory (PROM) and then bringing the nonvolatile static RAM to a low power standby state.

Abstract: A process for removing halogen gases from a gas stream containing carbon dioxide such as flue gas from an industrial waste incinerator burning chlorinated organic wastes, the process includes seven steps. The first step is to flow fresh absorption liquor to a gas-liquid contactor (such as a column packed with pall rings) the fresh absorption liquor containing water, base and thiosulfate (such as sodium carbonate and sodium thiosulfate). The second step is to flow the gas stream to the gas-liquid contactor. The third step is to contact the fresh absorption liquor and the gas stream in the gas-liquid contactor to form a contacted gas stream and a contacted absorption liquor. The fourth step is to flow the contacted gas stream from the gas-liquid contactor to form an exhaust gas stream from the process. The fifth step is to flow the contacted absorption liquor from the gas-liquid contactor to form used absorption liquor.

In a preferred embodiment, discrete portions of stretched, continuous elastic strands are attached to predetermined isolated portions of a continuous diaper web having obstructing elements positioned thereon in the areas where the continuous elastic strands are to be unattached to the continuous diaper web. A disposable absorbent article made in accordance to the above described method is also provided.
Abstract: A new and distinct variety of nectarine tree which is somewhat similar to the "Red Lion" nectarine tree (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 5,591) from which it was derived as a cross with the "Summer Lion" nectarine tree (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 6,544), but from which it is distinguished by producing fruit which are mature for harvesting and shipment approximately eight (8) days prior to the fruit produced by the "Red Lion" nectarine tree and wherein the fruit is of an outstanding quality having a very good flavor, a highly red blush skin coloration and superior eating quality.
Abstract: The present invention comprises a new and distinct cultivar of Chrysanthemum, botanically known as Dendranthema grandiflora, and referred to by the cultivar name Desert Isle. The new cultivar is distinguished by its yellow-orange ray floret color and yellow with green center disc floret.
Abstract: The present invention comprises a new and distinct cultivar of Chrysanthemum, botanically known as Dendranthema grandiflora, and referred to by the cultivar name Pacific Isle. The new cultivar is distinguished by its lavender ray floret coloration and dark green leaves.
Abstract: A tray with a bottom of a casket has a bottom wall, longitudinal side walls and transverse end walls that are interconnected to create a water-tight container. A network of upstanding ribs is formed on the bottom wall to create a plurality of discrete isolated compartments for the retention of liquids. The side walls and end walls have vertical, inwardly projecting ribs for stiffening purposes. The tray is preferably made by vacuum forming of a thermoplastic material such as high density polyethylene.
Abstract: An apparatus and controlling circuitry for periodically operating an aerosol container in discrete dispensing intervals to disperse a discrete quantity of the contents thereof. The apparatus includes a powered mechanism for actuating the aerosol, with the circuitry controlling the powered mechanism for a predetermined number of actuations. An energizing means activates a warning mechanism when the actuation count reaches the predetermined number to thereby indicate the probable total evacuation of the aerosol container and the necessity for termination of the operation. The apparatus also includes means for setting the circuitry into a plurality of different operating modes, including a continuous intermittent operation, a controlled daytime operation, and a controlled night operation. The apparatus may be battery operated, and it then includes a second warning mechanism for indicating whether the battery power is sufficient to operate the powered mechanism.

Abstract: A discus training glove for use in adding to the competitive capability of discus throwers is provided herein. The present invention proposes to add an evenly distributed amount of weight to the glove of the discus thrower. The weight will be inserted and contained in a pouch on the back hand side of the glove, and if desired, additional weight in the form of a weighted pad can be attached to the pouch on the glove. By adding a balanced weight to the top portion of the hand, the discus thrower will become tolerant and adjusted to the weight added. Thus, upon removal of the additional weight, the discus thrower will have the ability to well surpass his or her best previous throws.
Abstract: A headband and flashlight holding construction includes a plurality of equal length straps. Two of the straps are joined together to form a headband, and two of the straps are orthogonally joined to the headband forming semi-loops so that, when the headband is situated on a user's head, the semi-loops span across the cranium of the user. The straps have loop-type material surfaces. At least the two straps that span across the cranium of the user, when in used have the loop-type material surfaces radially outermost. Holding devices are secured to small flashlights. These holding devices have hook-type material situated radially outwardly. Thus, the flashlight may be joined to the cranium spanning straps by simply pressing the holding devices against the straps allowing the hook-type material to intermesh with the loop-type material. Hook-type material fasteners are used to join the remaining two straps to form a full loop for the headband.
