Patent number: 5388685Abstract: A conveyor and method for preventing stick-slip friction conditions from exciting the conveyor into surging and for preventing surging vibration from adversely affecting operation of the conveyor. The conveyor has a pair of endless, flexible roller chains that are laterally spaced apart and carried on sprockets keyed to a drive shaft that is in communication with a drive at one end of the frame and sprockets keyed to a take-up shaft at the opposite end of the frame. Preferably, the take-up shaft is split into two shaft sections rotatively secured adjacent their ends by a pair of bearings on a mounting block to permit each conveyor chain to move on its idle sprocket independently of the other chain. The conveyor components are selected to provide a combination of chain stiffness and conveyor mass moment of inertia at maximum payload that produces a conveyor having a high enough natural frequency to prevent stick-slip friction conditions from exciting the conveyor chains into surging.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 1994Date of Patent: February 14, 1995Assignee: Litton Industrial Automation Systems, Inc.Inventor: Philip S. Patent number: 5388725Abstract: A fluid-driven proportioning pump for dispensing precise volumes of at least three different fluids includes a drive cylinder housing a correspondingly formed drive piston which divides the drive cylinder into first and second drive fluid chambers and is propelled in a reciprocating motion by a pressurized drive fluid. The housing for the drive cylinder is comprised of two identical hollow housings mutually matingly engaged at the open ends thereof. The face of the drive piston is provided with projecting proportioning pistons which extend into proportioning cylinders that open into each drive fluid chamber. An over-center mechanism triggered by movement of the drive piston at the extremes of the strokes of the reciprocating motion thereof operates valving that admits the pressurized drive fluid into turn it of the drive fluid chambers. The over-center mechanism is activated by hoop springs and is housed entirely within the drive cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 1993Date of Patent: February 14, 1995Assignee: Fountain Fresh InternationalInventor: William H. Patent number: 5388728Abstract: The invention concerns a unit for dispensing at least one fluid product; this unit comprises at least one dispensing duct, each comprising at its end portion a closing system opening towards the outside. The closing system is formed by an obturator which forms part of a component made of an elastically deformable material and a seat which forms part of another component of the dispensing head. The obturator is in contact with its associated seat in the absence of any dispensing action, moving away from the seat by elastic deformation under the pressure of the product to be dispensed, and returning by elasticity into contact with the seat when the dispensing stops. The obturator is subjected to the action of a constraining element tending to keep it applied to the seat wherewith it cooperates.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 1993Date of Patent: February 14, 1995Assignee: L'OrealInventor: Jean-Louis Gueret

Patent number: 5388729Abstract: A pitcher with caddy attachment is disclosed which comprises a secondary vessel which fits into the top of the pitcher and stores garnishes, ice or other items. The secondary vessel includes a skirt with at least one opening which allows contents to be poured from the pitcher without removing the caddy from the pitcher. A retaining devise is used to retain the caddy in the pitcher and the lid of the caddy in the caddy when the pitcher is in a pouring position.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1994Date of Patent: February 14, 1995Inventor: Robert M. Patent number: 5388730Abstract: A lockable actuator mechanism for an aerosol or pump dispensing canister is disclosed. The lockable actuator comprises a collar fixedly mounted to a canister and an actuation plunger concentrically mounted in the collar. The collar includes a shoulder onto which the actuation plunger may be rotated into a locked, safety position to prevent depression of the plunger. Tabs located on the collar above the plunger prevent the plunger from being removed from the housing and cooperate with a detent on the shoulder to wedge the plunger over the shoulder and prevent the plunger from rotating back into the operative position. The tabs also eliminate the need for a friction fit of the actuation plunger on the valve stem. The actuation plunger has an internal annular shoulder against which the valve stem abuts in the depressed position.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1993Date of Patent: February 14, 1995Assignee: Enviro Pac International L.l.c.Inventors: Joe L. Patent number: 5388731Abstract: A cap and dispensing fitment combination for a container. The cap has an end wall and a skirt extending axially from the periphery of the end wall, the cap being adapted to engage the neck of the container. The end wall of the cap has an annular flange that extends axially and radially outwardly therefrom, the annular flange terminating in a free end surface that facilitates securing the dispensing fitment to the cap. The dispensing fitment comprises an end wall having at least one opening therein, the annular flange engaging into the opening. The dispensing fitment has a sidewall extending axially from the periphery of the end wall and is adapted to engage the container when the combination is placed on the container and to retain the dispensing fitment on the container even as the cap is removed from the container.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 1993Date of Patent: February 14, 1995Assignee: Continental Plastics, Inc.Inventors: Gary L. Patent number: 5388732Abstract: A vessel having a bottom with a vertical center-line and an annular side wall extending upward from the bottom of the vessel terminating into a rim portion. The vessel is further provided with at least one pouring spout formed in the side wall and extends peripherally about the side wall for at least a 75 degree arc with respect to the vertical centerline of the bottom. The pouring spout consists of two opposing concave upper pouring spout surfaces which converge upon and join a concave lower throat surface. The pouring spout thus provides a cross-sectional flow pattern initially in the shape of a convex-sided V that reforms into a round non-turbulent stream regardless of the flow rate of the liquid being poured. A complementary closure having at least one array of openings, for venting steam and/or straining liquids being prepared in the vessel is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1992Date of Patent: February 14, 1995Assignee: Corning IncorporatedInventor: Richard W.
