Abstract: A magnetic head suspension 10 has a flexure portion 18 constituted as a single one-piece structure with a load beam spring element portion 12. The flexure portion 18 projects beyond a distal apex of the load beam spring element portion 12. The flexure portion 18 includes a first connection arm member connected at a proximal end thereof to the distal apex of the load beam spring element portion 12. Head support means are suspended from the first connection arm member. The head support means are constructed and arranged for supporting a head slider bonded to one face of a bond pad area 26 thereof. The head support means has a pair of substantially parallel flexible longitudinal arms 28 substantially enclosing the bond pad area 26. The distal end of the flexible arms 28 flexibly suspend the bond pad area 26 of the head support means. The proximal ends of the flexible arms 28 are connected to the distal end of the first connection arm member.
Abstract: A load beam is joined by its proximal end to a rigid actuator arm. The load beam has stiffening flanges projecting from its longitudinal edges. The flanges have a Z-axis measurement or height of at most about 0.4 mm. The flanges terminate co-extensive with the load beam surface. The distal end of the load beam has a load bearing dimple with a Z-axis height of at least about 0.10 mm. The flexure is attached to a distal end of the load beam. The load beam distal end may be narrower than the flexure. Longitudinal load beam edges in the base plate region may have a rail or tabs for supporting head connection. The load beam spring region may have a central area of reduced thickness. The load beam may have alignment and assembly tooling features. The flexure and the actuator base plate may be welded to the load beam, or the mounting arm and the load beam may be a unitary one-piece structure.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for determining the optical power transmitted through an optical fiber. The invention is based on measuring the intensity of the fluorescence produced by a doped segment of an optical fiber. The dopant is selected so that it emits light at a different wavelength than that responsible for producing the fluorescence. The doped segment is of sufficient length and dopant concentration to provide a detectable signal, but short enough to prevent the doped segment from serving as a gain medium, resulting in amplified spontaneous emission and excess fluorescence traveling along the optical fiber. The dopant material is excited by the optical signal carried by the fiber, causing a fluorescence. In the preferred embodiment the intensity of the fluorescence is proportional to the intensity of the propagating light. The signal power is then determined from the intensity of the fluorescence.

Abstract: A modified polycarbonate composition comprising a blend of a bisphenol A-based polycarbonate and from greater than about 5% and less than about 15% by weight of a high molecular weight hydrogenated styrene-butadiene-styrene triblock copolymer has dramatically improved environmental stress crack resistance as well as improved impact resistance properties.
Abstract: A new and distinct variety of nectarine tree which is somewhat similar in its harvesting date with that of the Arctic Glo nectarine tree [U.S. Plant Pat. No. 7,884] which matures at approximately the same time of the season, but which is distinguished therefrom, and characterized principally as to novelty by producing fruit which have a larger size, firm flesh texture and an attractive skin color at commercial maturity.
Abstract: A new and distinct Alstroemeria variety producing flowers of good quality having inner petals with greyed purple spots against a primarily white background with a central section with yellow intonation.
Abstract: A lightweight, high strength, portable vehicle service ramp capable of being used by aerodynamic vehicles and heavy trucks. The ramp is solid on all sides with integrated handles on the sides and rear. The base and rear of the structure are covered with a corrosive-and-wear resistant material. The incline and top plane area of the ramp are covered with non-skid material. A wheel stop is provided in a Configuration to reduce kickback. The internal construction is a system of cross members running longitudinally and transversely to provide weight bearing capability. Ramp design provides for movement, storage and transporting efficiency.
Abstract: An inner liner is provided for a shoe that makes the shoe waterproof and at the same time allows the foot to breathe. To accomplish this purpose, such a liner is constructed of a material that is impervious to water but is pervious to perspiration vapors. The liner comprises a sock-like configuration shaped to fit within a shoe upper and attached to the top and bottom portions of the upper, such liner having fold portions similar to fold portions at the front of the shoe to allow expansion and contraction thereof when the shoe is placed on the foot and removed. The liner may also employ a novel seam in joined portions thereof, and its particular structure allows it to be combined with all conventional types of shoe constructions.
Abstract: The assembly includes first and second parallel connecting bars between which individual attachments are situated in parallel, spaced relation. Each of the attachments includes first and second T-bar ends with a flexible filament extending therebetween. The attaching device includes a housing with a recess having a first and second sections adapted to receive the first and second connecting bars, respectively. First and second hollow needles extend from the housing. The T-bar ends are pushed through needles by simultaneously actuatable ejector rods after each is severed from the associated connecting bar. The assembly of the attachments is advanced through the housing to align the T-bars with the needles by simultaneously actuated indexing gears. The gears cooperate with the elements which join the T-bar ends and the connecting bars.

Abstract: High speed sheet feeders receive blocks or bricks of paper sheets, cards or folders stacked edgewise on a downsloping supply ramp, and singulate these for edgewise feeding in rapid succession. The frontmost sheets ready for feeding are buckled and fanned at their upper edges, and their lower edges are arched forward to form a dimple or ridge-shaped pocket by an underlying central traction singulator. A pair of ganged or synchronized feed belts engage the frontmost sheet and propel it rapidly downward edgewise, and a slanting discharge belt receives and diverts the sheet at even higher speed between the discharge belt and a tractive pinch roller. A transfer assembly beneath the discharge belt may receive sheets from an adjacent feeder and interleave them upon command with sheets delivered by the discharge belt.
