  • Patent number: 5442822
Abstract: A fitted sheet is formed from a sheet of fabric including a generally rectangular main panel. Extending from the main panel at its lower end are two side-extensions and a central-extension between the side-extensions. Each extension is generally rectangular and has two longitudinal edges and one lateral edge. The extensions are spaced apart providing an exposed edge-portion of the lower end of the main panel on either side of the central-extension. A pocket is formed in the fitted sheet by attaching to each longitudinal edge of the central-extension an adjacent edge-portion of the main panel and an adjacent longitudinal edge of a side-extension. The sheet is finished by folding each side-extension along a line corresponding to the lower end of the main panel, aligning the lateral edges of the side-extensions with the lateral edge of the central-extension, and stitching the side-extensions to the main panel.

  • Patent number: 5442823
Abstract: A polyurethane foam wheelchair cushion comprises first, second, third and fourth elements. The first element extends across the front portion of the cushion and is made of a relatively stiff foam. The second element is centered near the back portion of the cushion and is made of a foam with a lower stiffness than the first element. Third and fourth elements are on either side of the second element and are made of a foam having an intermediate stiffness between the first element and the second element. Transition surfaces between the second and third and fourth elements are angled relative to a vertical plane. Such an angled transition surface provides a gradual change in stiffness in the vertical direction between materials of different stiffnesses. The top surface of the first element is oriented relative to the second element so that the user's ischial tuberosities will be located approximately 1.5 inches lower than the back surface of the user's thighs when the user is sitting in the wheelchair cushion.

  • Patent number: 5442852
Abstract: A method for manufacturing an electronic module comprising a substrate carrying circuitry and one or more integrated circuits and having an array of closely spaced solder balls electrically connected with terminals of the circuitry to connect the module to an array of terminals, as on printed circuit board. The array of solder balls is fabricated on the substrate by preparing the substrate to include an array of terminal pads, perforating a sheet of dielectric tape to create precise and uniform holes, and thereafter fusing the tape onto the substrate so that the holes are aligned over the substrate's terminal pads. Solder balls are then placed in the holes and heated to reflow them, so that part of the solder fills a volume defined by the holes in the dielectric tape and bonds to the terminal pads on the substrate, while the solder balls remain generally spherical above the dielectric tape.

  • Patent number: 5442853
Abstract: A method of using an apparatus for the automatic lacing (drawing) of hairpin tubes through the holes of a heat exchanger fin stack includes using a plurality of identical extendable guide rods, each positioned in approximate alignment to engage an open end of a respective heat exchanger tube which is positioned adjacent to a respective fin stack hole. The plurality of guide rods are extended in unison through the holes of the heat exchanger fin stack to positions within the open ends of the hairpin tubes. A self aligning knurl structure on each guide rod lead end is expanded to engage the respective I.D. of a respective hairpin tube. The guide rods are then retracted in unison pulling the tubes through the fin stack holes. A self regulating pressure mechanism assures that the pressure exerted by an expanding knurl end is within a predetermined range. Once the tubes have been laced, the knurl structures are collapsed and the guide rods withdraw from the tubes.

  • Patent number: 5442854
Abstract: Apparatus includes a pilot stud and a ram. The pilot stud is aligned with an end of a shaft. A rotating member is adapted to receive axially inner and outer rolling bearings and be supported by the rolling bearings for rotation with respect to the shaft. The rotating member has a spacer for maintaining a desired separation between the rolling bearings. The rolling bearings and the rotating member are mounted on the pilot stud. The ram has an abutment member that is adapted to engage the outer rolling bearing. The ram is aligned with and moved toward the shaft. Movement of the ram toward the shaft causes the abutment member to move the outer rolling bearing against the spacer and onto the shaft. Also, this movement of the ram toward the shaft causes the spacer to move the inner rolling bearing onto the shaft. So, a single stroke of the ram mounts the rolling bearings and the rotating member onto the shaft.
