  • Patent number: 5461941
Abstract: A differential mechanism having two output cam members, each having a single annular cam surface with pairs of inclined surfaces. Relative contra rotation of the output cam members cause cam followers to slide axially, and a housing engages the cam followers which are slideably supported by the housing moving the followers circumferentially relative to the output cam members. The two cam output members are thrust axially against the housing during drive of the cam output members through the followers and at least one cam output member acts against the housing through a friction thrust washer. This mechanism allows control of the torque ratio between inside and outside output shafts of a vehicle when turning a corner.

  • Patent number: 5461945
Abstract: A tire puncture repair device comprising a handle, an attached shank member, a conical threaded penetrater member, and a bolt/cover assembly. An elongate resilient obturater strip is threaded through an eyelet on the bottom of the penetrater member, folded lengthwise thereabout and inserted into the bore of the shank member. The ends of the inserted obturater strip are secured to respective anchor plates on a medial portion of the shank member, and the bolt/cover assembly secured thereover. The shank member is then inserted through a tire puncture with the threaded penetrater member boring therethrough. Afterwhich, a sliding bolt member is displaced forward within the shank member so as to push the penetrater member away from the end thereof and into the interior of the tire, carrying a bight of obturator strip therewith. The shank member is then extracted from the tire wall wherein the obturater strip remains lodged therein to seal the puncture.

  • Patent number: 5461947
Abstract: There is disclosed an improvement to an elongated tool holder such as the tool holders used to secure the immobilizing key used in aerospace fasteners to enable easy ejection of keys which is stuck or jammed in the holder. In these tools, a key is received in a receptacle of a tool holder that is slidably received within an outer, rotationally-driven member which distally supports a socket for engagement with the nut of the fastener of an aerospace fastener. The key is used to immobilize the bolt for non-interference fit applications of the fastener. A slot is formed along the shank of the tool holder intersecting the tool receptacle adjacent its interior end to expose the received end of the key and thereby permit insertion of an ejection member or tool to forcefully eject a jammed key from the tool receptacle.

  • Patent number: 5461955
Abstract: A device for cutting pipe comprising two sleeves, which sleeves are securely tensionable about a pipe and adjacent to each other. An axial cleft remains exposed between the two sleeves, in which lies the cutting line. A chain type pipe cutter runs upon the sleeves, the cutting disks of the pipe cutter engaging the pipe between the sleeves and severing the pipe. The rollers of the cutting disks are supported by the sleeves, whereby the cutting depth is limited. Further, support bearing rollers support the chain type pipe cutter upon the sleeves. The device is economical and makes possible the cutting of pipes even of minimal form stability without deforming the pipes.

  • Patent number: 5461956
Abstract: A powered bread slicer capable of slicing successive loaves of bread to selected different slice thicknesses. A rotating circular bread slicing knife is mounted on a pivotal, reciprocal arm for shifting the knife from a retracted position through slicing positions between and transverse to an infeed table and an outfeed table, and return to the retracted position. The slice thickness is selected, as for standard one-half inch thickness, deli one-quarter to three-eighths inch thickness, garlic or French bread up to one inch thickness, or otherwise. A variable stepper motor incrementally advances a loaf pusher one step at a time, the dimension of the step being of the selected slice thickness dimension. The distance by the travelled loaf pusher to reach the end of its travel is monitored to determine whether the bread heal is thick enough to slice once more. This decision is a function of the selected slice thickness dimension.

  • Patent number: 5461968
Abstract: An improved brewing pot is disclosed that allows the user to stop the brewing process at the point where the decoction is at the desired strength. In the preferred embodiment, the material from which a decoction is to be made is placed in a cylindrical chamber, boiling water is added, and then a circular screen carrying member, wherein the carried screen is exposed in pie shaped slots, is lowered into the chamber to approximately the level of the brewing liquid. When the brew has reached the desired strength, the screen carrying member is lowered into the liquid. The screen member is surrounded by a flexible gasket and the exposed portions of the screen itself are of sufficiently fine mesh so as to segregate the steeping material from the brewed or decanting area. The screen portions are then closed off, preventing fluid communication between the decanting chamber containing the finished brew, and the smaller area containing the brewed material, along with some amount of water.

  • Patent number: 5461973
Abstract: A drum crusher crushes differently shaped and/or sized empty containers such as 55 gallon steel drums to facilitate recycling of the material in the make-up of the container. A compacting press actuated by remote controlled hydraulic pressure moves in the axial direction of the drums or containers with sufficient hydraulic pressure to crush the containers to a minimum size. Locating bars facilitate manual, mechanical or gravity feeding of the drums into the crushing apparatus and the manual, mechanical or gravity removal of compacted slugs from the crushing apparatus. Safety apparatus minimizes exposure of personnel to possible hazardous conditions.

  • Patent number: 5461975
Abstract: A low friction liner is described for mounting to an agricultural material baler within the discharge chute for the baled materials. The liner includes liner plates of low friction material that are attached by a mount to the inwardly facing surfaces of the baler discharge chute. The low friction material provides inwardly facing low friction wear surfaces used to engage and guide materials along the discharge chute to a open discharge end. In one preferred embodiment, the low friction surfaces are flat and continuous from forward to rearward ends of the discharge chute plates. In another preferred form, angular indentations are made within the liner with incised or indented shoulders facing the rearward ends of the discharge chute plates to provide abutment surfaces for avoidance of "spring back" of baled materials as they are moved toward the discharge end.

  • Patent number: 5461977
Abstract: The device has a sheet-transfer cylinder (2) with a movable setting plate (3) which bears the sheet grippers (4) and whose lateral ends are individually adjustable during each revolution of the transfer cylinder (2) with the aid in each case of a roller lever (9) in the circumferential direction in such a way that the sheet transferred to the impression cylinder is in a position which corresponds to the precise printing register. For this purpose, each roller lever (9) mounted movably on the transfer cylinder (2) is guided in a guide path (15c), surrounding the cylinder axis (1) in an annular manner, of an actuator (15, 16) which is suspended pivotably above the cylinder axis (1). Said actuator is provided with individually adjustable stops (19a, 19b) which, by interaction with peripheral cams (24a to 24d) pivot the relevant actuator (15, 16) by a predeterminable amount during each revolution of the transfer cylinder (2) and thus displace the relevant end of the setting plate (3).

  • Patent number: 5461980
Abstract: An apparatus for mounting a plate on a plate cylinder includes a plate lockup device, a reference pin, a detecting sensor, and a lamp. The plate lockup device is provided in a gap formed in a circumferential surface of the plate cylinder. The reference pin is supported by a gripper portion of the plate lockup device and engaged with a reference pin hole formed at an insertion end of a plate when the plate is inserted into the gripper portion of the plate lockup device. The detecting sensor is arranged at a position corresponding to at least a bottom portion of the reference pin hole to electrically detect that the bottom portion of the reference pin hole contacts the reference pin. The lamp confirms and indicates insertion of the plate on the basis of an output from the detecting sensor.
