This composition decreases shale sloughing and bore-hole instability during drilling of wells.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for detecting the permeation of hazardous or toxic chemicals through protective clothing are disclosed. The hazardous or toxic chemicals of interest do not possess the spectral characteristic of luminescence. The apparatus and methods utilize a spectrochemical modification technique to detect the luminescence quenching of an indicator compound which upon permeation of the chemical through the protective clothing, the indicator is exposed to the chemical, thus indicating chemical permeation.

Abstract: This invention is a head with a kerchief portion, a forefront portion and a billed portion. The kerchief portion is attached to the forefront portion and the billed portion is attached to the forefront portion along a weakened fold line. Both the forefront portion and the billed portion each include a reenforced central panel and a pair of reenforced side panels connected thereto by weakened fold lines. When worn, the present invention looks like a baseball cap with a kerchief attached. When the bill portion is folded juxtaposed to the forefront portion and the respective side portions are folded back on the central portions, the kerchief can be wrapped thereabout to form a compact folded headwear that can be stored in a small purse, pocket or the like when not in use.

Abstract: A cap having an arrangement for shielding the ears of a wearer from direct sunlight by the use of a pair of generally elongate ear shades removably supported from the sides of the cap. This novel cap has a head-encircling portion and a crown portion as well as support devices for the ear shades. These support devices are mounted on opposite sides of the head-encircling portion, at locations generally corresponding to the temporal portions of a wearer's head. Each of the support devices is adapted for supporting one of the ear shades, with both of the ear shades being double-ended and of non-planar construction. A securing component is disposed on each end of each ear shade, adapted for engagement with the respective support device.

Abstract: An environmental shield secureable to a helmet, protecting a wearer. The helmet includes a rigid outer shell and a perforate liner positioned within the outer shell, leaving a space between a portion of the outer shell and the liner. The environmental shield can include a flexible sheet like main portion that shields the wearer when worn secured to the helmet. This shield includes an attaching portion of the main portion that is configured to secure the shield to the liner of the helmet in such a way that preserves the space between the liner and helmet so that air can flow into the helmet. Alternatively, the environmental shield can include a quadrilaterally shaped flexible sheet like main portion. This shield has two elongated flaps along one side of the main portion. Receded regions extend along adjacent sides from the flaps, and sloped so that the width of the shield increases. Shoulders protrude from the receded regions increasing the shield's width.

Abstract: An apparel item is shown which includes a cap to be worn on a wearer's head. The cap interior has one or more specially designed fasteners for receiving mating fasteners of one or more hair accessory pieces, allowing the installation of such accessory pieces within the cap interior. The mating fasteners also include adjustment regions to vary the position and extent of exposure of the accessory hair pieces below the cap lower peripheral edge.

Abstract: A modified football helmet has an inner cap attached by elastic straps to the inside of the helmet shell providing a space above the cap. The helmet is further modified incorporating a rigid collar extending outwardly from the bottom of the helmet which has a lower surface positioned a distance above two upright post members extending upwardly from the rigid shoulder pads.

Abstract: A toilet apparatus having a device for deodorizing a toilet is provided. The device includes a housing, a cover for the housing, a base for mounting the housing on the toilet water tank, a pump disposed in the water tub, and a sensing unit. The housing comprises a mist sprayer positioned at a top portion thereof adjacent an inlet for gas from the toilet, a first partition member disposed at one side of the mist sprayer adapted to block the water sprayed, and a second partition member spaced from the first partition to form a pair of chambers. The second partition member has a notch formed therein which allows air flow from the first chamber to the second chamber. The first chamber has the mist sprayer, a guiding media, and an activated carbon box therein. The second chamber has a gas exhauster which has a gas outlet conduit disposed at a bottom portion and extending through the base. The base is seated on top of the toilet water tank.

Abstract: A water guiding strip for use in association with a shower stall or bathtub having a shower curtain, this strip having a long thin waterproof body which is flexible at room temperature. The body has an upright leg attachable to an end wall and a horizontal leg attachable to the generally horizontal surface of a bathtub rim. The long thin waterproof body guides water down the end wall along said horizontal surface and into the receptacle without hindering the use of the horizontal surface to store bath articles. The waterproof body may include an offset between the upright leg and the horizontal leg to facilitate capture of moisture on a wet side of the horizontal leg. A mist guard may also be pivotally and removably retained on said upright portion of said long thin body.

Abstract: A toilet flush water supply control unit (10) which enables hot water to be immediately available at a hot water faucet (56), is described. The control unit (10) is formed from a first fluid conduit (12) and a second fluid conduit (20). The first fluid conduit provides a passage (12C) between the cold water supply (52) and the toilet flush tank (40). An intermediate opening (12D) in the first fluid conduit is opened and closed by a thermostatic device (21) mounted in the second fluid conduit. The thermostatic device allows cool water in the hot water system to flow into the first fluid conduit and thus into the toilet flush tank. Once hot water reaches the thermostatic device, the device closes. A valve (28) which is manually controlled by a handle (29) attached to the toilet flush tank, allows the user to turn the control unit on and off. The unit saves water and at the same time provides convenience of use.

Consecutively and rotatably connected to the main movable frame (3) are first and second auxiliary movable frames (17, 18). An interconnecting lever (20) operating between the main movable frame (3) and the second auxiliary movable frame (18) interconnects the rotational movements of the movable frames (17, 18). A synchronization lever (21) operatively connects the pantograph linkage (4) to the auxiliary movable frames (17, 18) for the purpose of timing the upward and downward displacement of the main movable frame (3) with the rotations of the auxiliary movable frames (17, 18).

Abstract: A patient support of the type which is used for conducting medical examinations has a base with a patient support plate thereon. A gurney, for bringing a patient to the patient support to conduct an examination, has a carriage with its own patient support plate. The gurney is positioned adjacent to the patient support and the patient is transferred from the gurney to the patient support while remaining on the gurney support plate, the gurney support plate being held on the patient support by bearings. The gurney support plate is attached to the gurney carriage by a longitudinal guide, so that the gurney support plate is adjustable along its longitudinal axis. The gurney support plate can then be longitudinally co-displaced with the support plate of the apparatus patient support, so that it need not be detached from the carriage.

Abstract: A ventilating air mattress includes a mattress cover having a down filled quilted upper portion overlying the upper surface of the mattress such that air escaping from the ventilating air mattress inflates the quilted portion. The differential air pressure drop across the upper and lower layers of the quilted portion of the mattress pad provides a pillowing or fluffing effect which increases the comfort for the user thereof. An air pump with remote control provides user adjustability of the firmness of the mattress. Alternate embodiments include a readily changeable mattress cover or sheet with quilting instead of the quilted mattress pad.

Abstract: A method and apparatus of washing laundry using a reduce amount of, or without the use of, hot water and detergents using a closed-loop or open-loop ozonated wash water system wherein wash water maintained in a contact tank is ozonated by an ozone generator prior to use in the washing machine. The oxygen and/or dried air used in the ozone generator to generate the ozone is concentrated by an oxygen concentrator before being fed into the generator. The system includes a venturi injector for entraining ozone into the water in the storage and contact tanks. The system also includes the use of contact extenders, static mixers and flow restriction fittings. The spent wash water may be collected, filtered and reused, thereby eliminating waste water disposal problems, resulting in considerable water and energy savings.

Abstract: In a full-width washing machine for a steam-permeable textile width of fabric, an injection device for steam is provided on one side the width of fabric, and on the other side, opposite this device, a suction device is provided, which can generate a partial vacuum of at least 0.2 bar. The exit opening of the injection device and the entry opening of the suction device extend over the entire width of the width of fabric. The width of fabric is guided through and between the injection device and the suction device. Steam is injected into the width of fabric and driven through the width of fabric and extracted on the other side, together with the residues which have been dissolved out of the fabric.

Abstract: A washing machine recirculation and draining system including two bottom drains in a wash tub, the drains connected by a tubing manifold having a reversible pump. A two-way valve opens one drain and closes a drain line during recirculation; the pump rotating in a first direction to pump wash water through a recirculation line. For draining, a second two-way valve opens the second drain and the first two-way valve closes the first drain and opens the drain line; the pump rotates in a second direction to drain the tub out through the drain line.

Abstract: A suspension bridge structure is disclosed which uses horizontal cables, tensioned between anchorages, and frame lateral girder/node members connected between the horizontal cables to form frames. A tower section protrudes between the horizontal cables and is attached to the horizontal cables. A main cable is extended between the anchorages and over the top of the tower section. The frame lateral girder/node members are suspended from the main cable. A roadway or other transportation system can be supported on the frame lateral girder/node members.

Abstract: An electric toothbrush with a control circuit capable of stopping the brushing operation when the brush is pressed against an user's teeth with an excessive force. The electric toothbrush comprises a housing which carries a shaft mounting a brush. The housing incorporates a rotary electric motor and a motion conversion mechanism which converts a rotational movement of the motor to a reciprocatory movement of the shaft for reciprocating said brush. A pressure sensor is provided to sense a brush pressure being applied back to the brush as a counter-action when pressing the brush against the user's teeth and to produce a stop signal when the sensed brush pressure exceeds a predetermined limit level.

Abstract: A wiper blade serves to wipe motor vehicle windows. The wiper blade has an elongated wiping strip contacting the window and a holder which grasps the longitudinal sides of the wiping strip by at least two claws arranged at clip-like frame parts and a securing member which is fixed in the vicinity of one end of the wiping strip crosses the claws with two arms extending roughly parallel to one another and engages behind the claws by securing means. A worn wiping strip may be removed and replaced in a simple manner in that the securing member has a base part which is U-shaped in cross section and can be slipped onto the end of the wiping strip so as to fit thereon accompanied by clamping, in that at least the arms of the securing member are made of a flexible plastic, and in that securing means having locking or catching means are provided at the free end portion of one arm, complementary locking means of the other arm being associated with the securing means.

Abstract: A versatile paint pan has a receptacle and a bracket removably attached to the back of the receptacle. The bracket has a base and two legs. The bracket may be pivoted to dispose the paint pan on a horizontal surface. The bracket may be supported transversely on a step of a ladder such that the receptacle is suspended vertically externally of the side rail of the ladder. The bracket may also be supported substantially parallel to a step of the ladder and such that the receptacle is suspended vertically between the side rails of the ladder. The paint pan has a paint brush holder and a removable cover.

Abstract: A novel upright carpet cleaning extractor is disclosed which may be conveniently converted from the floor cleaning mode to the upholstery and/or stair cleaning mode. The overall configuration and operation of the extractor is similar to that of a typical upright vacuum cleaner and may be operated in the forward or reverse direction similar to a typical upright vacuum cleaner. When in the floor cleaning mode, cleaning solution is supplied to a solution distributor by gravity flow. However, when converted to the upholstery cleaning mode an auxiliary, air turbine driven cleaning solution pump is automatically energized for supplying pressurized cleaning solution to an upholstery or stair cleaning nozzle.

Abstract: The cleaning system has a head to which water is applied for cleaning carpets, etc. The head has a water nozzle for injecting hot water on the carpet, etc. and a vacuum inlet with vacuum hose coupled to a vacuum container. A lid having an outlet is provided for covering the top of the container. A hose is connected to the lid outlet and to a vacuum blower. A lid conduit forming the lid outlet extends through the lid with inlet openings formed through the lower portion of the outlet conduit. A chamber extends from the lower side of the lid surrounding the lower portion of the lid conduit with a bottom wall located below the lower portion of the lid conduit. A plate is connected to the bottom of the lid conduit and extends outward forming a dead space between the plate and the bottom wall of the chamber. An opening is formed through the side wall of the chamber for passage of air from the container into the chamber and to the vacuum device.

Abstract: A fabric cleaning apparatus and method uses ozone-bearing cleaning liquid which is spread over the fabric and then vacuumed up. The spreading and the vacuuming are both performed through a cleaning head or tool which has hoses to a vacuum cleaner and cleaning liquid tank. The cleaning liquid is ozonized by injecting air from a conventional ozone generator into the cleaning liquid tank or into the delivery hose. An air pump and/or a venturi in the cleaning liquid line are used for the air injection. The ozone in the air stream dissolves into the cleaning liquid, which both helps to clean the fabric and avoids excessive ozone concentrations in the air. The elements may be housed in a single movable unit.

Abstract: A caster has a stationary hub with a bearing between the hub and a floor engaging wheel ring which allows the wheel ring to rotate relative to the hub. Torsional elastomeric elements mount the hub between spaced support arms radially inward of the bearing and are positioned eccentrically relative to the axis of rotation of the wheel ring so as to suspend the hub resiliently between the arms. In an alternate embodiment, the hub is cantilevered from a single support arm.

Abstract: A refrigerator door handle including a pull handle and an integral one piece extruded plastic handle cover having handle extensions on opposite ends thereof, the handle extensions having legs thereon for securement to the refrigerator door. In another embodiment, the pull handle is provided with extension bases positioned at opposite ends thereof to receive the handle extensions of the handle cover in a snap-in engagement. In a further embodiment, the pull handle and handle extensions on opposite ends thereof are fabricated from an integral one piece extruded plastic profile. It is noted, that the pull handle extensions or bases can be provided with legs for securement to the refrigerator door.

The handle includes an elongate member and a shield having a central portion and two hinged side portions movable between a folded position and a use position in which the side portions are substantially aligned with the sides of the central portion. At least one of the handle and adapter includes a biasing element for biasing the shield in such a manner that side portions arranged in the folded position will be repositioned to the use position when the handle and the adapter are secured to one another.

Abstract: An extension pole is provided for use in handling and manipulating a tool head, such as a tree pruner or other selected implement. The pole comprises a base section and an extension section defining a mated pair of generally planar side faces retained in face-to-face relation by a first slide cuff secured to a distal end of the base section for slide-fit reception of the extension section, and a second slide cuff secured to a proximal end of the extension section for slide-fit reception of the base section. One or more lock keys are carried by one of the pole sections for key-lock engagement with a longitudinally extending pattern of detents formed in the side face of the other pole section. At least one band clamp is releasibly secured about the pole sections to retain the lock keys in engagement with the detent pattern, thereby releasibly locking the two pole sections in a selected position of longitudinal adjustment.

Additionally there may be between the working section and the feeding out section a device (3) for cutting of worked profiles to correct length. The means also comprises arrangements for linear movement of the profile through the different sections. A work station position within a working section comprises a frame or similar device which in itself comprises several, preferably four, working units, whereby each working unit may carry one or more working tools (22), e.g. cutting mill or drill, which during the working stages can move with at least three degrees of freedom.

In a combined machining lathe having a drilling and/or milling machine, vibration sensor(s) are attached to a headstock and/or a tailstock and a sensor for detecting a rotation angle of a main spindle is provided. After the usual machining, the workpiece is rotated at a predetermined rotating speed on the same lathe and an amount of imbalance and phase are calculated by a imbalance arithmetic unit. An NC machining program for balancing the workpiece is automatically produced by a balance correction machining program producer within a numerical controller and balance correction machining of the workpiece is carried out using a rotary tool such as a drill or the like.

Abstract: A kit and method of using the same to allow the repair of a compact disc case after one or both of the "ears" that form the hinges breaks off is disclosed. The kit involves a piece of flexible adhesive backed material that can be placed on the case after both the protrusions are snapped off to form a new hinge. Thus the case can still be used, albeit with a new hinge line, the snapping off of both the protrusions allowing for the members that carry them to pass over the sides of the bottom portion of the case.

Abstract: A method is indicated for producing lengthwise waterproof cables, with a jacket that is formed around the transmitting elements containing the core. The voids in the core and between the core and the jacket are filled with a viscous sealing material, which is pumped from a storage container by a feed pump driven by a speed-controlled electric motor, and supplied to a pressure chamber. The core is passed through the pressure chamber so that the voids in the core are filled with the viscous sealing material. The pressure in the pressure chamber is continuously measured and is kept constant with a regulator. Sealing material leaving the pressure chamber is directed to a catch-container equipped with a level switch. From there it is supplied to the pressure chamber by a feedback pump driven by a speed-controlled electric motor, which is switched on and off by the level switch.

Abstract: A process for hot working a continuous-cast bloom or a steel ingot, the process comprising the steps of: (1) cooling a bloom produced by continuous casting or a steel ingot produced with a mold to bring the surface temperature thereof to 50.degree. to 150.degree. Abstract: An electromechanical press apparatus for trimming excess portions from a leadframe strip package having a semiconductor chip thereon and for forming leads of the leadframe strip package extending from the semiconductor chip is disclosed. The apparatus provides an electric motor that drives two orthogonally oriented shafts through a 90 degree gear box coupler. One shaft is used to move a portion of the apparatus along a rectangular path of motion for linearly shifting a leadframe strip along a plane orthogonally oriented to the rectangular path of motion. The other shaft is used to move another portion of the apparatus along a line of motion orthogonally oriented to the plane for performing a trimming operation or a forming operation.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a multilayer electronic component having one major surface which can be completely used as a mounting surface for another electronic component to form a composite component includes the steps of forming a groove in the mother laminate along a cutting line, forming external electrodes on side surfaces of the groove and then dividing the mother laminate along the cutting line to divide the groove thereby forming a plurality of multilayer electronic components that are independent of each other. The method of forming the electronic components allows for measuring electrical characteristics of the individual multilayer electronic components while the components are still part of the mother laminate.

Abstract: Dynamo-electric machine armatures which have commutators and cores that are axially close to one another are wound with the aid of wire guiding hooking plates that are inclined to reach into the portion of the commutator that is axially adjacent to the core where the coil leads must be attached to the commutator. The hooking plate may also perform an additional extension motion in order to press the coil leads out of the way of a subsequent fusing operation. This function may alternatively be performed by a separate pusher member which is either associated with the hooking plate or independent of the hooking plate. The fusing electrode may be specially shaped to facilitate performing fusing operations axially close to the armature core.

Abstract: An open mesh material for use as a high performance RF reflective antenna surface and which is formed as a Leno type weave using electrically conductive composite yarns which have a construction for avoiding loose metal-to-metal contacts which generate undesirable passive intermodulation products (PIM). The composite yarns are formed by counter-wrapping stretch resistant nonconductive strands about an insulated metal strand and a stretch resistant nonconductive filler yarn. The insulated metal strand preferably includes a beryllium-copper wire which is encapsulated within a polyamide coating. The woven mesh is coated with a RF energy transparent silicone-based paint to provide additional insulation to the plastic coated wires at the weave junctions and has a surface resistivity sufficiently low to facilitate bleed off of building electro-static charges.
