Abstract: A new and distinct variety of ground cover rose plant is provided which forms continuously throughout the season attractive long-lasting pure white blossoms. The new variety exhibits a compact and spreading growth habit that renders it suitable for growing as an ornamental ground cover in the landscape. The foliage is dark green and glossy and contrasts well with the pure white blossoms. Reproductive organs and pollen provide a generally yellow coloration at the center of each fully open blossom. The pure white blossom coloration is well retained upon the aging of the blossoms, and petals drop off cleanly as the blossoms mature. The new variety also propagates well from cuttings, by the budding of an eye, and by grafting, and exhibits an excellent resistance to blackspot, mildew, and rust.

Abstract: A new and distinct variety of Hybrid Tea rose plant is provided which abundantly forms attractive long-lasting blossoms that are white edged with pink. The plant exhibits an erect growth habit and strong vegetation. The new variety exhibits very good disease resistance and is particularly well suited for cut flower production under greenhouse growing conditions.

Abstract: Rootstock variety `Borner` is a cross between Vitis riparia 183G.times.Vitis cinerea Arnold. The new variety was obtained by traditional grapevine crossbreeding techniques. The basic idea for the choice of the two breeding partners was to combine the positive viticultural characteristics of Vitis riparia with the complete phylloxera resistance potential of Vitis cinerea.

Abstract: A new and distinct variety of trident maple (Acer buergeranum) named `Abtir` characterized by (1) rapid growth; (2) early exfoliating bark; (3) lustrous dark green summer foliage; (4) and superb grayed-purple fall foliage.

Abstract: A new and distinct selection of Golden Barberry shrub which shall be referred to hereinafter a Berberis thunbergii cultivar Monlers. Berberis thunbergii cultivar Monlers differs distinctively from other Berberis thunbergii plants by its unique combination of a low, dense symmetrical globe habit and dwarf size and golden yellow foliage which does not appear to scorch in full sun.

Abstract: A Chrysanthemum plant named Empire Salsa particularly characterized by its flat capitulum form; daisy capitulum type; red-purple ray floret color; diameter across face of capitulum of 60 to 64 mm when fully opened; spreading branching pattern; natural season flower date of August 22 to 23 when planting rooted cuttings on June 17 to 18 in Salinas, Calif., and September 15 to 22 when planting rooted cuttings June 15 to 22 in Hightstown, N.J.; plant height of 23 to 28 cm when grown in fall under natural daylength with no growth regulators; and durable, uniform performance.

Abstract: A new and distinct cultivar of geranium known by the cultivar name `Miro` is characterized by a salmon flower color, a semi-double flower form, dark foliage, medium zonation and a compact habit.

Abstract: The new and distinct Pelargonium.times.hortorum cultivar named `BFP-837 Scarlet` is provided. This new Zonal Geranium was the result of a controlled breeding program wherein the a plant designated 11185A (non-Patented in the United States) was pollinated by a plant designated PAS 186-4-4-1 (non-patented in the United States). The new cultivar forms attractive large semi-double scarlet florets commonly with a darker area on two petals of each floret. Dark green foliage is well retained during shipment. A medium self-branching growth habit is exhibited that does not require the use of a growth regulator.

Abstract: A conveying apparatus for lifting fluid includes a flexible conveyor assembly having a pair of flexible tubes forming respective tubular walls and an endless flexible rope conveyor extending through respective passages defined by the tubular walls. The rope conveyor has riser and return portions and upper and lower end portions. A pair of roller members and a motion-producing device are provided for mounting and moving the rope conveyor about an endless path with the riser and return portions of the conveyor moving in opposite directions relative to one another through the different passages. The riser portion of the rope conveyor and the one tubular wall of the flexible tube surrounding it form an annulus between them extending from a lower inlet end to an upper outlet end of the flexible tube.

Abstract: A separating agent which includes a polyvinyl acetal resin having open cell structure and an average pore size of from about 10 to about 1000 micrometers; and, porous calcium phosphate granules having open cell structure, and also having two distributions of pore size wherein one distribution has micropores ranging from about 20 to about 500 mm in average pore size and the other distribution has small pores ranging from about 1 to about 50 micrometers in average pore size. Alternatively, the separating agent includes a polyvinyl acetal resin having open cell structure and having an average pore size of from about 10 to about 1000 micrometers as a first element, and a layer of porous calcium phosphate granules having an average granule size of from about 10 to about 2000 micrometers as a second element applied onto the first element. The separating agents may be used in a separator, and may be employed in separating methods.

Abstract: An exit door security system which employs an electromagnet and armature to lock an exit door comprises an electromagnetic housing and a frame assembly. The housing is pivotally mounted to the frame assembly. An attempt to exit the door causes the housing to pivot to thereby actuate a switch. The lock is automatically released after a pre-established time delay. An alarm at the door may also be actuated by the switch. The electronic circuitry is configured to allow for immediate authorized egress and to implement an immediate safety release of the lock. The lock may be operated in either a normally locked or normally unlocked mode.

Abstract: A protective reflex system for a portable computer hard disk initiates protective action before the hard disk suffers the shock of an impact in the event they fall from, for example, a user's lap. A three axis accelerometer is mounted in the portable computer. The output of the accelerometer is continuously monitored by a dedicated processor. In the event of an acceleration event within a preset range of values, the dedicated processor passes a high priority interrupt to the central processing unit of the portable computer and then proceeds to park the disk heads. Alternately, the interrupt routine of the central processing unit may also cause the park operation. In addition to park operation, a brake operation may be performed by either the dedicated processor or the central processing unit.

Abstract: A flexible bulk container for the handling and storage of flowable or powdered bulk materials is provided which includes the combination of a flexible and collapsible bulk bag bottom component having an encircling first side wall, a bottom end with an opening therethrough through which contents are discharged connected about its periphery to a bottom end of said first side wall and an open upper end opposite said bottom end and a flexible and collapsible bulk bag top component having a top end, an opposite open lower end and an encircling second side wall connected about the periphery of the top end which is separably receivable within and generally complementary to the first side wall of the bag bottom component wherein the top and bottom ends and first and second side walls define an interior stoarage space therebetween for flowable granular or powdered bulk material with the second side wall being adapted to be in firm engagement with the first side wall when the storage space is at least partially filled.

Abstract: Tool for slitting and laterally expanding underground steel gas mains and inserting replacement plastic piping into the spread apart pipeline has a forward end cylindrical portion mounting a single, rearwardly angled blade to make only one line of cut, and a conical pipe spreader portion at its rearward end. The conical spreader portion is eccentrically disposed with respect to the forward end cylindrical portion. A single roller type pipe slitter aligned with the fixed blade may be mounted on a removable extension of the forward end cylindrical portion, to initially groove and weaken the pipe along the intended line of cut. A pneumatically operated impact ram is attached to the rearward end of the tool, as is the leading end of the replacement piping. A wire cable pulls the tool through the underground pipe, thereby grooving, slitting and laterally expanding the pipe.

Abstract: An improved method and a product for waterproofing soil utilizing a flexible plastic sheet for providing a water barrier and for providing a means of reflecting light sufficient to prevent damage to the sheet and the underlying soil from direct sunlight comprising a uniform density or multiple-density plastic sheet material which has been manufactured to a desired thickness to contain an upper surface cpable of reflecting light.

Abstract: A manifold form assembly has a front page and a back page, with each page having at least one image-receiving area disposed thereon. The original front page is disposed on one side of a first sheet and the original back page is disposed on the other side of the first sheet. The first sheet is movable between a first position in which the original front page is exposed for completion and a second position in which the original back page is exposed for completion. A pressure sensitive image-transferring system is provided integral with the assembly to transfer pressure-created images formed on the front and back page image-receiving areas. Duplicate front and back pages receive images transferred by the image-transferring system. A stub connects the original pages, the image-transferring system, and the duplicate pages into an integral form assembly. In one embodiment, a set of carbons transfer the pressure-created images from the original front sheet to the duplicate front sheets.

Abstract: A sun visor for eye glasses, comprising a U-shape or arcuate frame member which supports a stretchable fabric covering, in which the fabric covering includes an upper and lower panel to provide a pocket therebetween. The upper and lower panels are sewn together around the arcuate or U-shape portion of their periphery in a pair of spaced apart peripheral seams that provides a peripheral through passageway for the U-shaped or arcuate frame member. The opposite end portions of the arcuate frame member project outwardly from each opposite opening to the peripheral through passageway. A strip of material having tiny hook members thereon is secured to the inwardly facing surface of each outwardly projecting end portion for releasably connecting to corresponding members having tiny loops thereon secured to the forward ends of the temple pieces of the eye glasses, to releasably secure the sun visor to the eye glasses.

Abstract: A knee pad unit for protecting the knee of an individual in a kneeling position and having outer plastic shell and a plurality of inflatable pneumatic tubes attached within the shell. The shell has two exterior rails having a front portion formed in a curved configuration to permit rocking. The plurality of inflatable tubes includes a central ring for suspending the knee and rear tubes for suspending the upper leg.

Abstract: A cooling vest arranged with a pocket between a denim outer layer and a linen inner layer to receive a flexible vessel containing separate pockets filled with water. The vessel is releasably attachable to the vest and in use the water is cooled or frozen before the vessel is fitted in the pocket. The vest is used for cooling the body of a user either during recreation, or while working in hot conditions or a person who is allergic to dust particles mixed in air emitted from electric air-conditioner or a sick person to reduce his abnormal body temperature or when sickness raises his temperature above normal body temperature.

Abstract: A apparatus for providing a tamper- or damage-indicating member, such as a tamper-evident glove. The apparatus comprises first and second layers, typically inner and outer glove-shaped bodies, of substantially liquid- and air-impermeable material, at least a portion of the second layer being of translucent material and having a contrasting color relative to the first layer. The apparatus further comprises means for sealing at least the portion of the second layer to the first layer, such that the portion surrounds a zone of the surface of the first layer, forming a space between the layers which is adjacent the zone and is substantially free of air. When the second layer is sealed to the first layer, breach in either layer adjacent the zone results in a change in perceived color in the area of breach.

Abstract: A child's toilet seat adapter that permits use of a standard adult toilet by children comprises a unitized structure including a flat seat member having a central opening therein and a handgrip adjacent each side edge thereof, together with a footrest extending downwardly and forwardly from a front edge of the seat member, the seat member having a pair of attachment flanges, each of which is formed to extend downwardly and inwardly from a side edge of the seat member, the attachment flanges adapted to slide over and retain opposite side edges of the seat of the standard adult toilet.

Abstract: A plunger device for forcing waste through a drain line of a plumbing fixture comprising an elongate, tubular member. Fluidly connected to the top end of the tubular member is a valve assembly which is adapted to have a water supply source fluidly coupled thereto. The valve assembly comprises a valve stem which is reciprocally movable between open and closed positions and adapted to block the flow of water from the water supply source into the tubular member when in the closed position. The valve assembly further comprises a check valve for preventing the back-flow of water from the tubular member into the water supply source when the valve stem is in the open position, and at least one air inlet valve for creating a vacuum break when the fluid pressure in the valve assembly is less than atmospheric pressure. Attached to the valve assembly is at least one handle member, while fluidly connected to the bottom end of the tubular member is a plunger member.

Abstract: The Two-Level Flush Valve retrofits into standard toilet tanks replacing the flush valve and pull cord. Depressing the toilet handle through the usual first resistance lifts a non-buoyant valve (20) open. It is held open by an upper float (28) fastened onto a pull cord (24). When water lowers to the level of upper float (28) the float drops, allowing the valve to close. This accomplishes a short-duration flush that clears liquid waste from the toilet bowl and saves about a half tank of water. Depressing the handle through a second resistance causes valve (20) to pull a carriage (32) up and out of a latch (52). Lower floats (40) on carriage (32) hold valve (20) open until the tank is almost empty. This accomplishes a full flush that ensures that solid waste is flushed out without leaving dirty water in the toilet bowl. A valve delayer (62) holds valve (20) slightly open for a few seconds to allow complete refilling of the toilet bowl.

Abstract: A mens' garment for surrounding and securing the genitals, having a waistband, a penis-covering front piece shaped to conform with the groin region, and a scrotal pouch that is secured to the back side of the front piece in a manner that forms at once a barrier between the penis and the scrotum and an open-ended penis-receiving sheath which secures and protects the penis, and allows for urination without removing the garment or touching the penis with the thumb and fingers. This men's garment is devoid of any between-the-legs structures used to hold the garment in place on the body or otherwise cover any portion of the buttocks. This garment's scrotal pouch employs a means of securement around the base of the scrotum and is secured to the front piece in a manner that, in conjunction with the waistband, holds the front piece in a downward position and inward toward the groin.

Abstract: A toilet tank water flow shutoff apparatus for preventing leakage and overflows includes a fill tray mounted on an upper portion of a main frame inside a toilet tank. The fill tray receives water from a water inlet valve in the toilet tank and discharges the water concurrently as it is being received. The apparatus also includes a lever tank mounted on a lower portion of the main frame below the fill tray and undergoes pivotal movement between water retain and release positions. The lever tank operates a water inlet valve independent of the water level in the toilet tank.

Abstract: An improved pair of swimming goggles includes two lens frames, each provided with a lens unit and formed with an inclined stop member which extends outwardly and rearwardly from a strap connecting portion thereof. Each stop member and a respective one of the strap connecting portions cooperatively define an engaging hole therebetween. A U-shaped nose bridge has two terminal ends that extend integrally and respectively to bridge connecting portions of the lens frames, an upper end portion, a lower end portion and an intermediate portion which extends between the terminal ends and which is located between the upper and lower end portions. The intermediate portion is thicker than the upper and lower end portions. Two gasket units are formed integrally and respectively on rear portions of the lens frames. A head strap unit includes two engaging members, each having a U-shaped portion with two terminal ends, and a plate portion that is connected to the terminal ends of the U-shaped portion.

Abstract: A lightweight, portable toilet which is disposable after use. The apparatus is comprised of sturdy biodegradable, environmentally safe corrugated paper board which is capable of being incinerated or buried in the earth's surface after use. The disposable toilet is comprised of a seat member which is placed over the top of a substantially rectangular base member. The seat member contains a rounded rectangular opening. The bottom of the base member is open so as to allow human waste excretions to fall into a pre-excavated hole in the earth's surface located directly underneath the toilet. After use, the toilet can be moved to a new location or disposed of and the hole covered with soil.

Abstract: An apparatus for extending and retracting a swimming pool cover includes a motor, a drive shaft connected to the motor, a cover collecting drum attached to the drive shaft and a cable collecting reel mounted on the drive shaft. A series of gears are configured to selectively engage the drive shaft with either the cable collecting reel or the cover collecting drum. A cable secured at one of its ends to the cable collecting reel and at its opposing end to the leading edge of a cover mounted on the cover collecting drum is operative to extend the cover over a swimming pool. The cover collecting drum functions to retract the cover from off of the swimming pool.

Abstract: The lifter/rotator device of the present invention is useful in assisting a user to raise from a sitting position to a standing position, rotating to a different direction, and resitting on another device or piece of furniture. Embodiment (16) shows base (40B) incorporated in a wheelchair (100). Vertical support column (60B) is mounted off center on a powered rotatable standing platform (50B). Parallel linkage lifting arms (94) and (94') connect pivot assembly (69) on top of support column (60B) to body rest (92). By activating the controls on hand grip and controls (98) a user is lifted upward and forward, rotated to another direction, and lowered on another device. Platform (91) is for a legless user not needing the more elaborate support provided by body rest (92). Storage tank (110) supplies compressed air for driving the various functions.

Abstract: A patient positioning device for manipulating mobility impaired patients. A specially dimensioned corset is adapted to be positioned around the torso of the patient and is coupled to two flexible straps which are individually routed to two drive assemblies designed for attachment on the vertically positionable safety side rails of the bed. A relay based control apparatus controlling the take up and play out of the straps to the two drives for regulating the movement of the corset and the patient.

Abstract: A foldable bed is movable between an unfolded position, in which interconnected seat, cavity, and body sections are substantially horizontally aligned and of substantially uniform depth, and a folded position, in which the body section is horizontally disposed, the seat section is horizontally disposed and overlies said body section, the cavity section is generally upright and extends between the body and seat sections. In the folded position, the seat section of the mattress is collapsible, and the cavity section of the mattress is noncollapsible. The bed frame can include a leg that is spaced away from the frame in the folded position that compresses a mattress head section, thereby forming a space within which collapsible springs of the seat section can reside. The bed can include springs having upper, intermediate, and lower runs, wherein the upper and lower runs include offset portions extending in opposite directions that are generally orthogonal to a plane defined by the spring intermediate run.

Abstract: A bed restraint for helping to keep a person with diminished capacities in bed without restricting the person's normal sleeping movements includes an elongate base having opposed lateral edges. At least one flexible flap extends laterally from each of the lateral edges and terminates at a free end. The flap extends around a top member of the associated side of the bed and back against the base. A first fastening device fastens the free end of each flap to the base so that the base is suspended above the mattress and person to prevent upwards movement by the person in getting out of the bed. In the preferred embodiment, the bed restraint further includes a cover member or second flap with an associated second fastening device for covering the first fastening device so that the person will not easily be able to unfasten the first fastening device even if so inclined. This second fastening device is then located near the base of the bed, away from where the person could easily reach it.
