  • Patent number: 5560267
Abstract: A camshaft vibration damper comprises an inertia ring having a friction clutch surface disposed in driving contact with a complementary clutch surface and a spring for biasing the clutch surfaces toward one another. The complementary clutch surface may be disposed on a drive member, for example, a camshaft sprocket or similar structure rotating with the camshaft. The spring is a compression spring, preferably a Belleville spring washer, which biases the two friction clutch surfaces together. The inertia of the inertia ring opposes the instantaneous variations in rotational speed (d.theta./dt) of the camshaft causing relative rotation between the inertia ring and the drive member thereby reducing vibration without resisting camshaft rotation. Relative motion at the clutch face between the inertia ring and the drive member results in energy absorption and dissipation thereby minimizing unwanted vibration.

  • Patent number: 5560270
Abstract: The chuck, the bar which operates it, and the cylinder and piston assembly which moves the bar are axially hollow and form a vertical duct which is open at the top next to the workpiece and which is open at the bottom over a conveyor with a filter and a unit for collecting and pumping the cutting fluid. The chips from the piece are channelled and removed downwards through the said duct by at least one jet of fluid at high pressure, which has a location and direction such that it strikes the chip after its formation without interfering with the normal jet of fluid at low pressure which is applied to the tool. The said jet or jets of fluid at high pressure consist of the same cutting fluid as that which is directed against the tool at low pressure. The chips leaving the lower end of the said duct fall on to the conveyor which removes them and separates them from the cutting fluid which, when suitably filtered, is returned to circulation by low-pressure and high-pressure pumps.

Abstract: A printing group cylinder of a web-fed rotary printing machine is mounted by its journals on opposed side walls of the machine. A sleeve positioned on or about the cylinder may be slipped on or off of the cylinder through an opening in the side wall. During operation, the opening in the side wall is closed by placing a pair of sliding gates in their closed position. When it is desired to change the sleeve, the opening in the side wall is uncovered by displacing the sliding gates. In order to obtain good print quality, the bearing is formed of multiple interengaging rings, of which at least one is eccentrically shaped. The eccentric shape of the ring causes the axis of the printing group cylinder to move into either a print engagement or disengagement setting when the ring is slidably rotated. The eccentric ring is secured against turning when the sliding gates are opened.

  • Patent number: 5560293
Abstract: A thermal printer prints linerless labels in such a way that printer components will not stick to the adhesive face of linerless labels. Substantially stationary printer components, such as a label guide, transport plate, front panel, and stripper blade, preferably have the adhesive face engaging surfaces thereof plasma coated so that adhesive will not stick to them. An optional cutter provided downstream of the stripper blade also has plasma coated surfaces. A driven platen roller has a surface thereof coated with or covered by a high release silicone, which will not stick to the adhesive, but has high friction characteristics to facilitate drive of the labels. In a direct thermal printer, a plasma coated tear off surface is downstream of the driven platen roller, and stripper belts, a second roller with O-rings, and the like are provided to prevent the labels from wrapping around the driven platen roller.

Abstract: A method for mounting a printing plate on a mounting sheet without requiring the intervention of a skilled person working by eye. An original design to be printed is produced on a computer and register marks are added to that design at specific positions. The resultant design data is output to a first printer. A negative of the design and the register marks is produced, and a printing plate is produced from the negative so that the design and the register marks are reproduced on the printing plate. The register mark position data is also output from the computer to a second printer. The dimensions of an article upon which the design is to be printed are input into a second printer and a full size plot of the outline of the article, including the positions of the register marks, is produced from the second printer.
