  • Patent number: 5560561
Abstract: A bail mechanism in an open-face fishing reel of the fixed-spool type having a rotor and a line spool which is coaxial with the rotor and oscillates in the axial direction, has a bail for winding a line onto the line spool. By means of two mounting elements, the bail is mounted on two attachments disposed diametrically opposite each other on the rotor. The bail is pivotable about a bail axis perpendicular to the axis of the rotor, between a folded-in line-winding position and a folded-out position, in which the bail is released of the line. A holder, which is fixed to the bail at one end thereof, is connected to one of the mounting elements. A shaft is provided between the holder and this mounting element. A line roller having a circumferential line-guiding groove in its outer circumferential surface, is mounted on the shaft so as to guide the line when being wound onto the line spool.

  • Patent number: 5560562
Abstract: The fishing reel features a three speed planetary drive in a gear housing on one side of the reel, and an improved mechanism for drag control in a clutch housing on the other side. The planetary drive uses an axially slidable high speed sun gear which is coupled by a transverse pin to a positioning rod in an axial hole in the reel axle. A compression spring forces the positioning rod to the outboard end of its travel where the reel provides a direct drive. Two conical grooves in the positioning rod are used in conjunction with a pair of steel balls and a spring loaded ball retainer, to trap the positioning rod in one or the other of two inner positions required for intermediate or high speed. The improved mechanism of drag control features a calibration disk; a drag lever with a spring loaded pin mounted near the end of the lever; and a strike ring engaged by the spring loaded pin with conical depressions in the strike ring indicating the lever positions for free spool or strike.

  • Patent number: 5560563
Abstract: A light shield (40, 100) for closing the film slot (33) in a film cartridge (20) is configured as a light shielding strip (40, 100) which extends around a film strip (26) coiled on a supply spool (25) within the film cartridge (20). The light shielding strip (40, 100) has a first end portion (44, 102) for covering the film slot (33) and a second end portion (54) for engagement by the film lead (56) of the film strip (26). When the film strip (26) is initially advanced, detents (64) on the light shielding strip (26) are engaged temporarily by teeth (66) on the supply spool (25) to pull the light shielding strip (26) open so that the film strip (26) projects from the cartridge (20). Upon rewinding the film strip (26), a film lead portion (56) of the film strip (26) engages other detents (72, 142) on the light shielding strip (40, 100) to push the light shielding strip (40, 100) back over the film slot (33) to thereby again close the film slot (33).

  • Patent number: 5560566
Abstract: A winder in a papermaking machine has a frame with horizontal rails which are positioned above a rotatable reel support drum, which is fixedly mounted. As a relatively large diameter wound paper web reel, or jumbo, is formed on a spool riding on the rails, the surface of the jumbo remains tangent to the top of the support drum as the spool moves from an initial position vertically over the reel drum to a position laterally displaced horizontally along the rail. Centerwind drive(s) control spool torque. As the jumbo increases in size, it is moved linearly away from the initial position, while maintaining the paper web reel rotatively supported and in a nipping engagement with the support drum. Nip pressure between the support drum and the jumbo is controlled by the force of gravity and the horizontal positioning of the jumbo along the rails. The positioning of the jumbo along the rail may be controlled by a conventional pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder, or a screw mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5560572
Abstract: A device, such as a radio, has opposing vertical sides and a vehicle instrument panel includes a recess having a rearward access opening and opposing spaced apart side walls. Each side wall of the instrument panel recess includes an integrally formed longitudinally extending tapered dovetail rail. A pair of tapered dovetail slide members are each adapted to be fixedly mounted to an opposite side of the device. Each slide member includes an integral upper and lower finger transversely cantilevered away from the device. The upper and lower fingers are vertically spaced apart for matably receiving the respective dovetail rail therebetween by interference-fitted engagement therewith when the device is longitudinally inserted into the recess of the instrument panel. Thus, the slide members and dovetail rails cooperatively secure the device to the recess of the instrument panel to prevent movement of the device relative the instrument panel.

  • Patent number: 5560598
Abstract: A device and a method are disclosed for identifying overlaps of flexible flat items being moved along a conveyance path in a conveyor segment which is configured to move the items sequentially while the items are standing on edge and such that at least one section of each of the items is deflectable perpendicularly with respect to the conveyance path. A deflection element is disposed adjacent the conveyor segment for temporarily deflecting a section of the flat items perpendicularly with respect to the conveyance path by a predetermined amount while the items are being conveyed. Each deflection element is associated with a detection device which detects an overlapping of the items based on a flip-back behavior of the temporarily deflected section of the items.

  • Patent number: 5560599
Abstract: A device for slowing down signatures being transported in a folding machine is provided. The device provides a plurality of rotary grippers which positively grip signatures exiting a tape conveyor system in the folding machine traveling at a high velocity. A deceleration drum is also provided for slowing down the signatures through a smooth velocity profile. The deceleration drum has a plurality of pivot arms pivotally mounted on a pivot disc rotating about a first axis, the pivot arms being connected to a control disc by a control link, the control disc rotating about a second axis parallel to, and offset from, the first axis. The rotary grippers are attached to outward ends of the pivot arms. The rotary grippers grip the leading edges of the signatures as they exit the tape conveyor system while the trailing edges are still being controlled by the tape conveyor device.

Abstract: A tennis racket is provided with a one-way free hinge adjacent the head of the tennis racket between the handle and the racket head to provide a hinged movement of the head of the racket with relation to the handle when the racket is swung and sufficient centrifugal force is provided to the head to swing it away from the racket with no bias from the hinge means. Additionally, the hinge provides no bias to force or bring the head back to the integral or aligned position with the handle, so that only when an improper swing of the racket occurs to apply centrifugal force to the head, will the head swing relative to the handle thereof. The racket enables a tennis player to be taught or to practice swinging a tennis racket with the proper "lag" and follow through so that the tennis player feels the correct rhythm and timing when stroking through a swing.

Abstract: The gaming system of the present invention includes one or more slot machines associated with a racing display wherein the racing elements are not racing against each other. Rather, a clock is included and each racing element is racing against the clock, independently of the other racing elements. The racing display may be built directly into the slot machine so that the slot player can easily see the progress of his horse or other racing element. Alternatively, a large racing display may be utilized that displays a plurality of horses or other racing elements but wherein each horse is racing against a different clock rather than against each other. Even further, Win, Place and Show positions are located adjacent the finish line and the slot player whose horse reaches either of these positions is awarded a prize depending on the position reached before the clock has timed out.
