  • Patent number: RE35519
Abstract: A method and apparatus for smooth-rolling and deep-rolling the journal pins of multi-crank crankshafts divides the crank pins into two groups, each including alternating crank pins, since the space between neighboring crank pins is insufficient for simultaneously rolling all of the pins including the main bearing pins in one operation. Each group of crank pins is then rolled separately in succession, whereby one group includes the main bearing pins. Thus, a crankshaft, including any number of closely spaced crank pins, can be completely machined in two rolling operations. In order to carry out this method a rolling apparatus includes crank pin rolling devices for each of the pins of one group. The rolling devices are axially slideably adjustable in unison between two determinable positions in which they may be fixed or locked after adjustment.

  • Patent number: RE35520
Abstract: An interfacing device for connecting the processing unit of a computer games system to an external data storage medium has a user-operable selection unit for generating a user-selected address and user-selected data. The user-operable selection unit may comprise user-operable switches or electronic latches that are set by a program in response to selections made by the user by means of a joystick, keypad or any other input device. An address comparison unit compares the user-selected address with the addresses from the processing unit, and a data switching device causes the user-selected data to be substituted for data in the storage medium whenever the compared addresses are the same. Instead of a user-operable selection unit, preselected addresses and preselected data may be stored in a ROM, which in one embodiment changes the way the computer interprets external memory and in another changes the computer's internal memory itself.

  • Patent number: 5632048
Abstract: A helmet for use by riders of bicycles, motorcycles or other vehicles. Left and right hearing assemblies are mounted inside of the helmet. Each of the assemblies has an enclosed ear cup positioned to fit snugly over a respective one of the user's ears. Respective hearing conduits extend from the ear cups through the interior of the helmet to respective openings. Thereby while the ear cups block substantial wind noises, the hearing conduits direct desirable sounds, such as emergency sirens, other traffic noises and voices, to the user's ears. User operable actuators for closing and opening the hearing conduits as desired can be provided. Optional ventilation tubes direct cooling and drying air through openings in the ear cups to the user's ears. • Patent number: 5632051
Abstract: The invention is a cooling pillow container insert which provides a continuous cool pillow surface and absorbs a pillow user's lost metabolic heat. Preventing thermal discomfort which causes pillow flipping and tossing and turning is the primary goal of the invention. The container slides between a conventional pillow and pillow case. The container is composed of a soft vinyl bag which snugly surrounds a fluid saturated porous foam core. A resealable valve allows fluid to be added or removed at will and the container's temperature to be adjusted. The container promotes heat transfer from the pillow user to the container. The heat is then dispersed uniformly throughout the container's fluid ensuring a uniformly cool pillow surface. Heat is also continuously lost to the surrounding environment. A pillow user's sleep is enhanced in warm temperatures without using an energy source. The container insert can also be used with or without a pillow, as a cooling bed for an animal or a pet.

Abstract: An hydropatterning apparatus conveys a sheet of fabric through a patterning station along a machine direction on a conveyor, preferably a drum, having a support surface formed with a pattern of raised or solid areas and lowered or void areas, and has one or more manifolds of hydrojet nozzles disposed above the conveyor for directing a continuous curtain of fluid downwardly to impact on the fabric so that properties of the fabric become altered in correspondence to the pattern of the support surface. The hydropatterning technique is used to emboss the screen pattern into the nap of napped fabric in order to produce aesthetically pleasing surface textures and patterns in the napped fabric, such as a fur-like surface texture. The technique can also be used for displacement of yarn or fiber to obtain three-dimensional effects such as ribbing, wavy lines, checkering, geometric or floral designs, or lacework.

  • Patent number: 5632073
Abstract: A casket cap assembly for a burial casket comprises a cap having two sides and two ends defining an interior, having a peripheral edge and having a peripheral groove in the peripheral edge within the interior of the cap. A pair of cap dish assembly supports are positioned in the cap along each cap side. A dish assembly is positioned in the cap and is supported by the cap dish assembly supports. The dish assembly comprises a rectangular cap panel and four peripheral puffing members attached to the periphery of the cap panel at respective adjacent edges. Each support comprises a spacer portion and an arcuate portion separated by a cap dish assembly edge receiving portion. The spacer portion contacts the cap within the cap interior to space the dish assembly relatively within the cap. The edge receiving portion receives therein the respective adjacent edges of the cap panel and puffing members. The arcuate portion defines the curvature of the puffing members.

  • Patent number: 5632074
Abstract: A vibration wave driven motor having an electromechanical energy conversion member for generating a vibration wave in an elastic member. This conversion member has first and second surfaces opposite to each other, and first and second surfaces respectively formed on the first and second electrodes to receive an applied electrical signal. The first electrode is formed in a position such as to face one side of the elastic member and has an electrical signal input terminal provided on the second surface side of the conversion member. This input terminal and the first electrode are electrically connected by, for example, a conductor formed in a through hole. It is thereby possible to supply an electric current to each electrode with reliability while maintaining the conversion member and the elastic member in desired close contact with each other.

  • Patent number: 5632079
Abstract: A process for making an integrated terminating resistor on a two-conductor data bus includes making a series of individual resistor elements and assembling the resistor elements in a stack of parallel, spaced array of elements. The elements are soldered together between end portions of the two conductors of the data bus at both ends thereof by inserting the conductors into two diametrically opposed, axially aligned notches in all of the resistor elements and heating solder in the notches to reflow the solder to bond the conductor in the notches. A parallel electrical and mechanicalconnection is thereby established, connecting the elements together electrically and mechanically in a closely spaced array. The array is sealed in a shock absorbing and abrasion resistant enclosure.

Abstract: A method for making an electrical contact for a vitreous carbon electrodes includes the steps of making a bore in an electrode blank of a cross-linked artificial resin forming the electrode blank into an electrode body. A solid or hollow pin, or a sleeve, composed of a biocompatible, refractory metal is introduced into the bore. If a pin is to be used, the bore is made to extend only partially into the electrode body, if a sleeve is used the bore extends completely through the body. The pin or sleeve has smaller dimensions than the bore; if a pin is used it projects from one side of the electrode body and if a sleeve is used it projects from both sides of the electrode body. The electrode blank is subjected to a pyrolysis, whereby the cross-linked artificial resin is converted into vitreous carbon and the electrode body shrinks onto the pin or sleeve.
