Patent number: 5644924Abstract: A control system for the use of the main engine of a vehicle as a heat source in maintaining the temperature of an operator compartment. The system is manually enabled subject to multiple criteria, the temperature in the operator compartment is monitored, and signals for the desired operator compartment temperature within an about plus or minus 10 degrees control range are produced. The main engine of the vehicle is enabled to start and run by all standard safety features and with a fuel flow controlled idle power output. Cycling through the starting and stopping of the engine is accomplished in response only to the temperature monitor signals. Disconnect of the operator compartment temperature control is accomplished manually by the operator, usually by actuating the operator controls.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1995Date of Patent: July 8, 1997Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Douglas E. Patent number: 5644925Abstract: A condensate trap for an air conditioning system includes a chamber having an upstream port coupled to the air conditioning system and a downstream port coupled to the external atmosphere, a sealing device disposed in the chamber, a lower seat member positioned in the chamber, and an upper seat member, disposed between the sealing device and upstream port. In response to a positive pressure at the upstream port, the sealing device contacts the lower seat member to prevent air from the air conditioning system from exiting to the external atmosphere. On the other hand, in response to a negative pressure at the upstream port, the sealing device contacts the upper seat member to form a seal which prevents the ingress of air from the external atmosphere into the air conditioning system. Moreover, in response to a predetermined amount of condensate accumulating in the chamber, the sealing device moves out of contact with the seat members to allow the fluid to drain from the downstream port of the chamber.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1996Date of Patent: July 8, 1997Inventor: Manuel J. Patent number: 5644948Abstract: An apparatus and process for monitoring conditions of a control valve including a valve element operated by a drive controlled by a position controller. A spindle extends into a valve chamber through a dynamic seal and connects the valve element to the drive. The condition of the seal is monitored by measuring start-up time, stopping time and distance travelled. Patent number: 5644963Abstract: A guide apparatus for cutting roofing shingles includes a rigid base plate, substantially rectangular in shape, having a first end wall spaced from a second end wall; a first side wall spaced from a second side wall; a cutting guide pivotally supported on the base plate along the first side wall; and upright guide surfaces mounted for sliding movement on the base plate adjacent to the second side wall. The cutting guide may be fixed at non-perpendicular and perpendicular angles to the long axis of the base plate. A scale having reference markings for cutting shingles at predetermined lengths is mounted along the first side wall. The scale may be utilized to determine points at which the beginning and the end of a cut can occur both easily and accurately. A modification of the invention includes an outward extension of the base plate along the first side wall, the extension having an opening within it, the combination serving as a carrying handle for the guide apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1996Date of Patent: July 8, 1997Assignee: George Seater, Jr.Inventor: Thomas A. Patent number: 5644964Abstract: A clamping mechanism is provided for securing a workpiece proximate a power tool on a work surface of the type having a support surface defined thereon and extending generally orthogonal thereto. The clamping mechanism applies a force to the workpiece to secure the workpiece between the clamping mechanism and the support surface. The force applied to the workpiece has a component directed substantially perpendicular to the support surface, and an additional component which is directed substantially parallel to the support surface in a direction away from the power tool to resist pulling forces which are applied by the power tool to the workpiece. Further, in a preferred embodiment of the invention, the clamping mechanism is oriented proximate a work head of the power tool without entering an effective work area of the power tool.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 1994Date of Patent: July 8, 1997Inventor: T. Patent number: 5644966Abstract: A pressure regulating circuit in which the piston of a pneumatic cylinder can attain a balanced condition without requiring any adjustment to a workpiece. In the pressure regulating circuit, the pressure in an oil pressure chamber of a pressure reducing valve equals the pressure in a pressure sensitive oil chamber of a workpiece retention member. The pressure in a pressure sensitive chamber of the pressure reducing valve equals the pressure in the oil pressure chamber. Therefore, the pressure in a piston pressure chamber of a main valve connected to the pressure sensitive chamber equals the pressure in the pressure sensitive oil chamber. When the pressure in a control chamber of the main valve and the pressure in a working chamber of a pneumatic cylinder are respectively balanced with the pressure in the piston pressure chamber, the piston P can attain a balanced condition.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1996Date of Patent: July 8, 1997Assignee: Hirotaka Engineering Co., Ltd.Inventor: Noboru Kimura

Patent number: 5644967Abstract: A servo valve arrangement with a high-pressure, low-pressure and motor connection and with a pressure control valve arranged between the high-pressure connection and motor connection and a return control valve arranged between the motor connection and low-pressure connection is provided. The pressure control valve normally is closed and the return control valve normally is open. The pressure control valve can be opened by a common actuating member whilst closing the return control valve. The valve arrangement is suitable, in particular, for hydraulic power steering systems of motor vehicles with a so-called closed center.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 1995Date of Patent: July 8, 1997Assignee: Mercedes-Benz AGInventors: Wolfgang Joerg, Jaromir Bordovsky, Aydogan Cakmaz, Hubert Heck, Arno Roehringer, Claus Gall, Reinhold Abt, Rainer Strauss, Karl-Hans Koehler

Patent number: 5644968Abstract: The hinge unit K of a variable capacity swash plate type compressor has support arms protruded to the back side of a rotor on the rotating drive shaft, and guide pins, one end of which is fixed to a rotatable and wobbling swash plate. The support arms have guide holes (guide surfaces) which extend in a predetermined direction having an angle .alpha. with respect to an axis perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the drive shaft. Sections perpendicular to the center lines L.sub.1 of the guide holes are formed into at least a partial circle. A spherical elements of the guide pins are slidably and rotatably engaged with the guide holes of the support arms to be in line contact with the guide surface of the guide holes. The angle .alpha. is set so that the top clearance TC of the respective pistons at both maximum and minimum compression capacities of the compressor is equivalent.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 1996Date of Patent: July 8, 1997Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Toyoda Jidoshokki SeisakushoInventors: Kazuya Kimura, Osamu Hiramatsu, Shigeki Kanzaki

Patent number: 5644972Abstract: The present invention comprises a system for brewing and dispensing high quality beverages at remote locations comprising a high volume urn, a high volume transfer system, an insulated mobile canister, a dispensing system having a compressor, tank and hose assembly, and a dispensing tap. Coffee, or other brewed beverage, is brewed in the high volume urn. Once a complete batch of coffee has been brewed, the entire batch is transferred via gravity to a clean and empty mobile canister. Once full, the mobile canister can be moved to a remote dispensing location or stored for future use. When the mobile canister is moved to the dispensing location it is connected to the dispensing system which uses an air compressor to pressurize the beverage within mobile canister. The dispensing system also connects the canister to the dispensing tap, via a short, removable dispensing hose.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 1994Date of Patent: July 8, 1997Assignees: American Metal Ware Co., Starbucks Coffee CompanyInventors: William A.
