  • Patent number: 5652996
Abstract: A hand held cleaner is provided with a swiveling nozzle that moves from a position perpendicular to the cleaner body to a position of axial alignment with it. A series of stops are mounted on the swiveling nozzle and cleaner body to limit nozzle swing to these two positions. A reciprocable latch is mounted with the nozzle to engage, selectively, in one of a pair of latching apertures in the cleaner body to lockingly maintain the swiveling nozzle of its stopped positions. The agitator and agitator belt are offset from what would be considered their normal centered relationship to accommodate the swiveling action of the hand held cleaner nozzle.

  • Patent number: 5652998
Abstract: The present invention relates to a door stop mechanism to be used as a child safety device. The door stop mechanism of the invention is for a door with a rotating door opening mechanism and a door jamb. The invention includes a blocking element, a flexible positioning member and an attachment hook member integrally joined to form a single molded structure. The door stop mechanism of the invention is attached to the rotating shaft of a door opening mechanism, such that the door stop mechanism will rotate in direct relation to the rotation of the door opening mechanism. In its closed position, the door stop mechanism rests across the edge of the door to prevent the door from completely closing. To close the door, the door opening mechanism must be rotated and held in this rotated position while closing the door. When the door opening mechanism is rotated, the blocking element of the present invention is moved away from the door edge which allows the door to be closed.

  • Patent number: 5653015
Abstract: A multiwire cable connection apparatus reduces the mutual entangling of wires 4 and prevents damage of the insulation of the wires when pressure connected to 5 contacts 8 of a connector 6. A wire-controlling member 210, which extends along the longitudinal direction of the connector 6 is located between an end 2a of a multiwire cable 2 and a back surface 6d of the pressure contact type connector 6. Since the space wherein wires 4 cross each other by the transfer after the identification of wires 4 is restricted to the space between the multiwire cable 2 and the wire-controlling member 210, wires 4 are pressure connected to the assigned contacts 8 without crossing each other in the space between the connector 6 and the wire-controlling member 210. Therefore, the wires 4 do not engage with the connector 6 over the time from the wire identification to the transfer to the assigned contacts 8, and no damage is caused to the insulation of the wires.

  • Patent number: 5653017
Abstract: The disclosure describes a method of attaching and electrically connecting first and second planar substrates, wherein the first and second substrates have inwardly-facing surfaces with matching patterns of bond pads. The method includes adjusting a wire bonder's tear. length to a setting which leaves a projecting tail of severed bond wire at a terminating wedge bond connection. Further steps include making a wedge bond to an individual bond pad of the first planar substrate with bond wire from the wire bender, and then severing the bond wire adjacent said wedge bond. The adjusted tear length of the wire bender results in a tail of severed bond wire which projects from said wedge bond and said individual bond pad. Subsequent steps include positioning the first and second planar substrates with their inwardly-facing surfaces facing each other, aligning the matching bond pad patterns of the first and second planar substrates, and pressing the first and second planar substrates against each other.

  • Patent number: 5653018
Abstract: The connection of the circuit board (7) of the appliance to connector blocks (10) is obtained by inserting and soldering holders (11) having connecting terminals (16) to the circuit board, connector blocks (10) being loosely attached to said connecting terminals (16). The mutual mechanical and electric connection is obtained by inserting the assembly into a case which secures the connector blocks to the circuit board, on one hand, and by fastening clamps which establish a connection of the connecting terminals (16) to connected conductors. The assembly of the appliance is particularly rational since the holders (11) with the connecting terminals are placed on the circuit board together with the remaining, non-represented components and are soldered thereto in common, the connector blocks (10) being simply slid on. The assembly is thus well suited for automation. The connector blocks abut to the edges of the circuit board (7), thus allowing a good space utilization and a compact construction.

  • Patent number: 5653020
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for forming a plastic package for an integrated electronic semiconductor device to be encapsulated within a plastic body, being of the type which comprises the step of molding said plastic body so as to fully enclose a semiconductor element, on which an integrated electronic circuit has been formed and which is placed onto a metal leadframe connected electrically to said integrated electronic circuit and carrying a plurality of terminal leads for external electric connection. To compensate the outward bends uncontrollably undergone by the plastic body due to thermal stresses during the molding step, a mold is used which has a cavity delimited by perimeter walls which define a concave-shaped volume. Preferably, at least one of the large walls, a bottom wall and a top wall, has a curvature inwardly of said mold cavity. The curvature values are predetermined to compensate any outward curvature undergone by corresponding surfaces of said plastic body during the molding step.

Abstract: A tapped hole measuring apparatus available for automatically measuring the major diameter, minor diameter, effective diameter and depth of a tapped hole. The apparatus comprises a measuring stylus with at least two air discharging ports which can take inserting movement into the tapped hole. The apparatus separately measures the variations of the back pressures of air supplied to the air discharging ports, and converts the back pressure variations into electric signals and stores them. Also included in the apparatus is a configuration calculating section for comparing the variation of the electric signal from the tapped hole with a variation of electric signal from a reference tapped hole to obtain the configurational dimensions of the tapped hole being measured.

Abstract: A workpiece holding system includes a connector for mounting a workpiece-holding pallet or upper plate to a workstation with the high degree of accuracy that is necessary for workpiece machining operations. The upper plate connects to the workstation via a pair oppositely directed, extendable/retractable connectors aligned along an axis of connection, with a total of four connectors and two spaced axes of connection, though three such connectors may also be used. At least one of the connectors includes a pin, an actuating knob and a wrap spring, thereby to permit extension and retraction along the respective axis by rotation of the actuating knob. The wrap spring interconnects the actuating knob to the pin in a slippable manner. The wrap spring acts as a torque limiting device during rotation of the knob to extend the pin into engagement with the upper plate, and it acts as a clutch during rotation of the knob to retract the pin from engagement with the pallet.

  • Patent number: 5653039
Abstract: A process for accelerating a measuring wheel of a length measurement system for sawed lumber conveyed longitudinally is provided by accelerating the measuring wheel prior to engagement with the sawed lumber to avoid slippage. The rotation of a hold-down or centering roller is used for accelerating the measuring wheel through a follower roller permanently engaged with the hold-down or centering roller. The measuring wheel is pressed by an elastic pressure element both against the follower roller and into the conveyor path of the sawed lumber. As the sawed lumber is conveyed longitudinally, it comes into contact with the measuring wheel forcing it out of the conveyor path and onto the surface of the sawed lumber while simultaneously disengaging the measuring wheel from the follower roller.
