  • Patent number: 5732458
Abstract: A clamp ring for a disk stack assembly of a computer disk drive unit includes a lower surface which includes an arcuate rolling contact surface that uniformly distributes a load applied to the clamp ring to components of the disk stack assembly underlying the clamp ring without damaging such disk stack components on load-induced flexion of the clamp ring. A cantilevered section of the clamp ring is disposed radially inwardly of the arcuate rolling contact surface, and is defined by a portion of the lower surface which is raised relative to an adjacent portion of the arcuate rolling contact surface so as to not contact the underlying disk stack components on load-induced flexion of the clamp ring. • Patent number: 5732460
Abstract: A machine for corrugating preformed plates that form the core element of a heat exchanger. A fold forming mechanism imparts an initial fold in the deformable links joining a series of preformed plates received from an external source. A gathering mechanism gathers the folded series of preformed plates to produce a flow of pairs of mating plates. Precut lengths of corrugated fins are then inserted between joined adjacent pairs of mating plates and a cut-off mechanism severs the deformable links of preselected pairs of links joining pairs of mating plates to separate individual core elements from the flow of plates.

  • Patent number: 5732471
Abstract: A tool for removing insulation from an electrical cable, has a pair of levers pivotally joined at a fulcrum point to each other. Each lever has a handle and a jaw on opposite sides of the fulcrum point. The jaws have a plurality of notches of different curvatures which come together in a closed state for stripping insulation from electrical wires of different gauges. One of the jaws also contains a ripper for cutting away the sheathing from an electrical cable. The ripper is formed by a ripper notch with first and second sides that diverge at an acute angle from a vertex to an opening that faces away from the handles. The first side of the ripper notch has a beveled surface which forms a sharp knife edge that cuts the sheathing and the second side is formed by a cylindrical guide pin. When the tool is used, the guide pin is inserted into the end of the cable and directs the sheathing into the ripper notch while preventing the insulated wires within the cable from being damaged by the knife edge.

  • Patent number: 5732476
Abstract: The generation of volatiles from liquid or solid materials is enhanced and accelerated by exposure to microwave radiation. Normally the energy transfer is effected preferentially toward the liquid or solid materials over the generated gaseous volatiles. Sufficient energy is provided at a selected rate that enhances the generation of volatiles to effect removal as vapor or to produce a pressurized vapor phase. Flow-through separations from a matrix having a microwave-absorbing liquid component are conducted by exposing to microwave radiation to vaporize this component and processing the vapor either by flowing through a selective permeable membrane, or by enclosing the vapor and matrix in a confined space and flowing matrix through a selected separation medium, and recovering residual matrix. These separations are particularly useful in analysis contexts.

  • Patent number: 5732491
Abstract: A display device for planar elements such as diskettes, credit cards and the like comprises a support portion and an integral display portion constructed in such a manner that the portions are relatively movable, through a periscoping action of the display portion, between a planar configuration of the device wherein the display portion and thus the planar element is substantially covered by the support portion, and an erected configuration of the device wherein the display portion extends upwardly from a support formed by the support portion so as to display the planar element. In one embodiment, the element is supported by a retainer band while in another a pocket is formed between a display panel and an end panel of the display portion. In another embodiment, an end panel comprises a pair of folded over panels, one of which includes a notch in an edge adjacent to the fold line so that the end panels form a recessed pocket for, e.g., a credit card.

Abstract: A banner material holder has a bar supported against loads by a support device. The bar has at a predetermined circumferential position a longitudinally disposed opening for holding one of the edges of the banner material. The bar is adapted to attach to the support device along a transverse axis that is angularly spaced from the predetermined circumferential position. After an edge of the banner material is secured along the bar at the predetermined circumferential position, a portion of the banner material is wound around the bar. Then the bar is supported along the transverse axis.

  • Patent number: 5732495
Abstract: The twist tie article permits simultaneous banding and tagging of merchandise and has a twist tie for banding about merchandise and a tag comprised of an information portion for displaying printed matter and an attachment portion for attaching the tag to itself after encircling the tag about a section of the twist tie. The tag is formed of water resistant sheet material folded along the boundary between the information and attachment portions with the portions extending from the fold in an approximately parallel orientation. The attachment portion is bonded to the information portion, with the twist tie situated between the information and attachment portions and between the fold and the bond. The tag is thereby securely and reliably attached about the twist tie without need for relying upon the formation of a bond between the tag and the twist tie.
