  • Patent number: PP11015
Abstract: This new cultivar of Euonymus fortunei originated as a branch sport of the all-green `Vegeta` variety (non-patented in the United States). The new cultivar combines the relatively large and broad leaf characteristics as well as the hardiness of the parent `Vegeta` variety with attractive variegated foliage. Plants of the new cultivar have generally wide and irregular whitish-cream leaf margins that commonly cover approximately 20 to 60 percent of the leaf area. This distinctive margin coloration surrounds and occasionally penetrates the leaf centers that are of marbled green and deep forest green. This atypical leaf character gives the new cultivar a characteristically lush and luminous, and artistic appearance. The appearance of the new cultivar is further enhanced by the presence of distinctive whitish stems, and occasionally by a few pearl-like whitish capsules which expose orange-red arils upon dehiscence.

  • Patent number: 5926872
Abstract: The bed system has a rectangular frame, with a mattress assembly mounted on the frame. The mattress assembly has upper and lower wooden strip layers and intervening foam blocks. Each wooden strip layer has a plurality of laterally-oriented wooden strips arranged in proximity to each other from top to bottom of the frame, with each strip extending from one side panel to the other side panel. There are three foam blocks, namely two outer foam blocks and one central foam block, running from head to foot of the bed between the wooden strip layers. The side panels have inwardly-facing shoulder portions running the length thereof, and the wooden strips of the lower wooden strip layer rest on the shoulder portions, with the outer foam blocks extending outwardly beyond the wooden strips so as to be in general vertical alignment with the outer walls of the side panels. This permits conventional North American fitted sheets and/or bed skirts to be used if desired.

Abstract: A railing guard is provided for alleviating previous deficiencies with crib protectants. The crib railing guard disclosed protects infants from injury and discomfort resulting from impact against and contact with side railing on baby cribs. Furthermore, the crib railing guard provides a self-supportive, comfortable enclosure for care of infants on surfaces with or without side railing. The crib railing guard is composed of a base, a cushiony wall and fasteners. The base is sized and shaped to correspond to an infant mattress. The base, when used in conjunction with an infant bed, is placed on top of the mattress support structure and beneath the mattress. The cushiony wall is connected to the perimeter of the base and projects upward. The lower portion of the cushiony wall is designed to compress when a mattress is placed on top of the base in order to fit the crib railing guard between the crib railing and the mattress.

  • Patent number: 5926876
Abstract: A device for adapting a surgical operating table such that the upper torso of the patient can be raised in order to place the patient in a seated position, the device further providing the means of exposing or supporting a side of said patient's upper torso and limbs. The device contains a continuously adjustable positioning mechanism, and corresponding actuator for said mechanism, in a way that a user can rapidly and conveniently put a patient in the desired position, from a supine posture to a fully seated position. Additionally, the device does not render the surgical table permanently modifed, as the process of modification is reversible by means of a simple attachment mechanism. The device uses a back support section hingedly connected to a base frame, this base frame providing the attachment support to the surgical table. Side support panels are either moved out of the way on the patient's operative side, or left in place to provide support to the unaffected side.

  • Patent number: 5926878
Abstract: A hospital bed (10) especially adapted for use by a woman giving birth. The bed includes a base (11) on which a litter frame (12) is positioned. A foot frame (24) that carriers a complementary lower mattress (26) is slidably attached to the end of the litter frame. Foot rests (30) are mounted to foot pans (28) that also extend rearward from the litter frame. The foot rests are attached to the foot pans by linkages (32). The linkages stow the foot pans under the foot frame and hold them above the foot frame when their use is required. When use of the foot rests is required, they are merely pivoted around the sides of the foot frame and lower mattress. No components need to be reset in order to set the foot rests for use. A leg rest (34) is attached to the underside of each foot rest. When use of the leg rests is desired, the foot rests are rotated around the linkages to present the leg rests to the birthing mother.
