  • Patent number: 5950270
Abstract: The invention is a single-wheel floor-polishing machine provided with drive wheel comprising two coaxial, opposite cup-shaped elements connected with each other by means of one or more traction elastic elements suitable for raising the polishing wheel from the floor. The upper cup is mechanically connected with the electric motor and the lower cup is connected with the rigid rotary plate that supports the polishing wheel. The polishing wheel rotation generates a centrifugal air vortex under the polishing wheel itself, which results in the formation of an area below normal atmospheric pressure, as a consequence of which the polishing wheel is attracted to the floor. In the starting phase the polishing wheel is raised from the ground and free to rotate; the polishing wheel does not overheat because the pressure is automatically regulated according to the polishing wheel rotation speed, to the type of floor and to the elasticity of the traction springs.

  • Patent number: 5950275
Abstract: A vacuum cleaning tool having a housing that includes a connector for a vacuum hose of a vacuum cleaning apparatus is provided. Disposed in a brush chamber of the housing is a brush roller, the bristles of which project through a vacuum slot formed in the base plate of the housing. The brush roller is driven via a belt drive by an air turbine, which is provided in a turbine chamber of the housing. Provided between the brush chamber and the turbine chamber is a guide member for guiding the suction air stream that is to act upon the air turbine. In order when the vacuum cleaning tool is raised from the floor to reduce the drive power, the guide member is pivotably mounted in the housing of the tool. In a first operating pivot position the suction air stream is directed essentially tangentially against the air turbine to achieve a high drive power. In a second, non-operative pivot position the suction air stream is directed essentially radially against the turbine to achieve a low no-load speed.

The tool comprises a generally U-shaped member, wherein the sides of the U pass into and occupy valleys of the teeth. The center of the U has reliefs exposing timing marks of the engine. The tool has optional adjustment structure for adjusting length of the sides of the U and optional second adjustment structure for variably spacing the two sides of the U apart. The former adjustment structure may comprise frictionally retained, slidably disposed members, or may comprise a clamp employing a threaded fastener. In an alternative embodiment, the tool may be formed in separable components wherein two interference members are mounted on a threaded shaft.

  • Patent number: 5950296
Abstract: An unlocking tool for opening a container operates by the action of a lever. The container includes a first half and a second half connected to each other for rotation. The first half includes a latch finger, and the second half has a hole for receiving the latch finger and engaging with it to keep the container closed. The second half also includes a second hole adjacent to the first hole for suspension of said container. The unlocking tool of the invention functions as a lever along which the tool has an effort point, a fulcrum and an acting point. The tool is formed to pass in part through the second hole of the second half and rotate around the fulcrum positioned in the second hole. When the tool is rotated around the fulcrum positioned in the second hole, the acting point of the tool urges the latch finger to release the engagement between the latch finger and the first hole of the second member, thereby opening the container.

Abstract: A cable (5) is inserted in a tube (2) wound on a tube reel (1). The cable is fed from a cable reel (6) through a cable-advancing unit (4) into a free inlet end (2.1) of the tube (2). Compressed air is applied to an air inlet (8) of the advancing unit (4), and led through the tube along the cable already inserted in the tube. The tube reel is put on a support 7, which is driven to a periodic movement in the vertical direction between to extreme positions (amplitude A, period P). During part of each period the movement is a free fall, or at least approximates a free fall. The movement may be sinusoidal with period P=2.pi.?A/g!.sup.1/2 (g is gravitational constant). In this case, the support (7) may be part of a rotatably supported lever, or may be part of a seesaw. In addition, the movement may be the vertical component of a maintained swinging movement. In this case the support (7) may be the swinging part of a Chinese swing.

Abstract: A thin film magnetic head is provided in which a magnetic yoke assembly is built up, layer by layer, atop a substrate using semiconductor thin film techniques. A lower yoke assembly is first fabricated including a lower magnetic layer situated on the substrate and first and second side poles built up vertically from the ends of the lower magnetic layer. An insulative pedestal surrounded by a frame is formed at the top of the lower yoke assembly and extends above the uppermost lateral plane of the yoke assembly. A diamond-like carbon (DLC) wear layer is deposited atop the pedestal. First and second pole support wells are excavated in the DLC layer so as to expose the first and second side poles therebelow, and further to receive first and second pole supports, respectively, therein. First and second pole extension members are situated on the first and second pole support members, respectively, with a non-magnetic gap region being situated between the first and second pole extension members.

Abstract: A improved stator apparatus for use in the ignition system of an internal combustion engine. The stator apparatus comprises a magnetically permeable core having a coil housing mounted to a leg portion thereof. A coil assembly including a voltage transformer is maintained in the coil housing. The various coils of the coil assembly are mounted about a central chimney member of the housing coaxial with the portion of the core extending therethrough. A circuit grounding member is electrically connected between the voltage transformer and the core by frictional contact therebetween. The circuit grounding member is constructed of a generally flat conductive piece having a longitudinal ridge defined along a portion of its length. In exemplary constructions, the longitudinal ridge extends along side a portion of the core and is biased into frictional contact therewith. The ridge facilitates assembly of the stator apparatus as well as enhancing electrical connection of the grounding member with the core.

Abstract: A semiconductor chip having contacts on the central region of its top surface is provided with a dielectric element overlying the central portion of the top surface. The dielectric element has a first surface facing toward the chip and a second surface facing away from the chip, a hole encompassing the central contacts and an edge bounding the hole. Central contact leads extend from the central contacts on the chip to central terminals on the dielectric element. The terminals on the dielectric element may be connected to a substrate using techniques commonly employed in surface mounting of electrical devices, such as solder bonding. The leads, and preferably the dielectric element, are flexible so that the terminals are moveable with respect to the contacts on the chip, to compensate for differential thermal expansion of the chip and substrate. The dielectric element may be provided with a compliant layer disposed between the terminals and the chip. The entire assembly is compact.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for bonding a nozzle plate to the front nozzle face of a printhead. A bonding station includes a heated printhead holder in opposed relationship to a nozzle plate holder with a curved lower surface. A nozzle plate having a row of nozzle holes and alignment apertures are formed by laser ablation in a thin polymer film. The film is moved into the bonding station, and the nozzle plate is aligned with pins on the curved nozzle plate holder surface. Both the printhead holder and nozzle plate holder are adjustable in directions perpendicular to the nozzle array on the printhead face and also rotationally. The adjustment insures that the nozzle plate, with adhesive applied to the bottom surface, makes initial tangential contact at the center of the nozzle array, resulting in accurate alignment of the nozzle plate holes with the nozzle array in the printhead face.
