  • Patent number: RE36552
Abstract: A printing method and apparatus for printing different indicia, such as account numbers, on selected documents without changing plates or stopping the press during a press run. Different indicia are provided at two or more lines on a printing plate, each line being separated from an adjacent line on the plate by a predetermined distance relative to movement of the plate in a press. The plate transfers images to a blanket having a region that does not contact the plate and thus receives no image of the plate area that registers with the noncontacting region of the blanket. The plate and blanket initially are aligned so that the noncontacting region registers with one set of indicia on the plate, so that the blanket receives a partial inked image lacking that indicia. That partial inked image is transferred to sheets passing through the press.

  • Patent number: RE36553
Abstract: In the conventional incineration of solid waste materials, flyash present in the combustion products gas stream catalyzes the formation of toxic dioxins from chlorinated organic materials. By providing a catalyst poison, such as carbon disulphide, in association with the flyash, typically by spraying onto the solid wastes prior to incineration, the catalytic effect is decreased, resulting in decreased dioxin formation.

  • Patent number: RE36556
Abstract: A method and apparatus for directional drilling to recover hydrocarbons, thermal energy, or the like, by using coiled tubing while the well is under pressure so that high density drilling fluids to control the subsurface pressures during drilling are not required. Snubbing apparatus and methods which maintain control of the bore hole pressure throughout the drilling operation are used, thus permitting the use of fresh water as a combination hydraulic fluid to operate a downhole motor and cool the bit, and to flush cuttings from the bore hole. The apparatus uses a down hole assembly including a bit driven by a motor, preferably hydraulic, which is located in a bent housing. A steering tool capable of indicating the angle and azimuth of inclination of the housing is carried by the motor housing and is connected to surface instrumentation by an electrical cable extending through the coiled tubing.

  • Patent number: 6021538
Abstract: The invention is directed to a brush section (24) for an electric toothbrush (20) in which a handle section (22) is connectible with the brush section (24). A bristle carrier (44) of a circular disk shaped configuration is arranged at the end of the brush section (24) remote from the handle section (22) and has on its upper side bristle tufts (46, 60, 62, 72, 74) disposed on one central ring (54) and one outer ring (56). The bristle carrier (44) is mounted on the brush section (24) so as to be rotatable about an axis of rotation (50) in an alternating oscillating fashion from a central position (58). The axis of rotation (50) is aligned at approximately right angles to a longitudinal center line (52) of the brush section (24). In use of the electric toothbrush (20), an improved cleaning action is accomplished in that the outer ring (56) of the bristle carrier (44) is set with tufts (60, 62) of bristles of different lengths.

  • Patent number: 6021542
Abstract: Improved self-cleaning brushes (10, 44, 64) are provided which include a brush body (12, 46, 66) having a bristle-supporting portion (16, 50, 70) supporting outwardly extending bristles (18, 54, 72). One or more apertured cleaning sheet(s) (36, 56, 76) are mounted on the brushes so as to receive the bristles (18, 54, 72) therethrough. When it is desired to clean the brush (10, 44, 64), the uppermost cleaning sheet (36, 56, 76) is grasped and pulled outwardly and off of the bristles (18, 54, 72), thereby removing hair and other debris from the bristles (18, 54, 72). Preferably, a multiple sheet pad (20, 52, 74) of cleaning sheets (36, 56, 76) are provided, each with perforation lines (38, 57, 80) and grasping tabs (42, 58, 78), to facilitate lift-off removal of the individual cleaning sheets (36, 56, 76).

  • Patent number: 6021546
Abstract: A carpet vacuum cleaning machine and roller attachment apparatus therefor for cleaning and extracting dirt and debris deep below the surface of carpets. The carpet cleaning machine includes a vacuum head or housing operably connected to a vacuum source and a debris collecting member. The roller attachment apparatus preferably replaces the conventional elongated motor-driven roller brushes commonly used in most vacuum cleaning machines. The apparatus includes a plurality of spaced star-shaped spur discs mounted side-by-side for free rotation on an elongated support shaft. As the vacuum cleaning machine is moved across the carpet, the pointed periphery of each disc engages and penetrates into the carpet to separate the carpet fibers to expose dirt below the carpet upper surface thereby allowing more effective vacuum extraction of the dirt.
