Abstract: A system and apparatus for evacuating air from an at least partially enclosed space around an internal combustion engine including an exhaust pipe for the flow of combustion products to atmosphere. The present system and apparatus includes a shaft and structure for mounting the shaft to the exhaust pipe in the exhaust path, and an impeller mountable for rotation on the shaft, the impeller including a first rotor having at least one vane or blade positioned in the exhaust path and oriented so as to be rotatably driven by the flow of combustion products, and a second rotor connected in rotatably driven communication to the first rotor, the second rotor including at least one vane or blade positioned and oriented for propelling air within the enclosure for evacuating the air therefrom.
Abstract: A compiling and stapling system with a compiling station for receiving and stacking sets of printed sheets inputted in a defined direction of movement for compiling and stapling them along a sheet edge transverse that movement direction with a two-part stapler providing ejection of the stapled sets out through that two-part stapler in the same direction of movement. This stapler has a staple driving unit separate from its staple clinching unit with an unobstructed spacing between them providing for unobstructed feeding of the stapled sets completely through the stapler in between the two separate units. An interlocking system such as a solenoid retractable alignment pin normally interlocks the two units in correct alignment for cooperate stapling and clinching of the collated set. The interlocking system then automatically unlocks the two units to provide an unobstructed set output path between the two units in that same direction of movement as the input path to the system.
Abstract: An optical sensor containing polarizing optical components measures fluorescence anisotropy of fluorescent dyes. The measurement involves the detection of vertical and horizontal components of fluorescent light. Using Glan-Taylor and Wollaston calcite polarizers, both vertical and horizontal components are collected by separate optical fibers and measured simultaneously using a two-channel photon counter. One application of this sensor is the measurement of molecular orientation during polymer processing. Two sensor head designs are described, one of which fits into the 1/2 inch instrumentation port in polymer processing machines. To carry out process monitoring, a fluorescent dye is mixed with a polymer resin at approximately 10 ppm by weight concentration. Dyes which have geometrical asymmetry in their molecular structure or are covalently bonded to the polymer molecule are usually used. The anisotropy measurement yields information about the orientation of the dye molecule in an oriented medium.
Abstract: A magneto-optical rotation (MOR) spectrometer is disclosed having a laser as a light source and providing a high intensity input light source that yields improvements in the detection limits and in the dynamic operating ranges of the MOR spectrometer.

Abstract: The present invention is a method and apparatus for training an operator of an earthworking machine having an implement control system. The method and apparatus includes switching from control by the implement control system to control by the operator, monitoring operator control commands, and comparing the operator control commands to control commands of the implement control system. The method and apparatus also includes communicating the comparison to the operator.
Abstract: A new and distinct hybrid of Heuchera characterized by lightly ruffled foliage, low habit, evergreen nature and several progressive bloomings of many small flowers that change color as they age from rose to white.
Abstract: A new and distinct cultivar of the muscadine grape plant, Vitis rotundifolia Michx., which has an exceptionally flavorful berry, scoring higher in taste panel rankings than the current grapes that are produced commercially. The vines of this cultivar are vigorous, productive and tolerant to many diseases affecting muscadine grape plants.
