Patent number: 6041617Abstract: According to the invention, the temperature and flow rate of cooling water for removing the heat of absorption are controlled artificially according to the cold output of load water by utilizing heated cooling water after the removal of the heat of absorption or heat source water, etc. According to the invention, a coolant tank and a load heat exchanger unit are provided as separate units. A load carrier is provided for cooling the load while partly evaporating the coolant through heat exchange between liquid coolant supplied from the coolant supplied from the coolant tank through a pump and the load. Mixture fluid of liquid coolant and vapor coolant after the heat exchange in the load cooler are returned to the coolant tank for separation of gas and liquid. Because the coolant tank and the load cooler are provided separately, the heat exchange with the load is performed by utilizing the latent heat of evaporation of coolant independently of possible temperature variations in the coolant tank.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1997Date of Patent: March 28, 2000Assignee: Mayekawa Mfg. Patent number: 6041654Abstract: An aerial towed hit detector used together with a sleeve target can obtain an oscillatory movement in the roll angular direction because of the small aerodynamic stability of the target. For determining the path or the miss distance of a projectile passing by the target and the hit detector, the position of the hit detector in the air is measured for allowing a compensation to be made in the determination of hit parameters of the projectile. In the determination of the position of the hit indicator tow accelerometers are used measuring the acceleration laterally or in a tangential direction. One accelerometer is attached to the hit detector and one to the tow rod. By forming the difference of the signals from the accelerometers and integrating the difference signal in two steps information of the angular position of the hit indicator is obtained. This calculation is made in a microprocessor for those times when pressure waves from projectiles hit the hit detector.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1997Date of Patent: March 28, 2000Assignee: Air Target Sweden ABInventor: Robert Stake

Patent number: 6041658Abstract: A method and system for sensing pressure in a seat cushion are embodied in a pressure sensing system including a bag positioned within the seat cushion and a pressure sensor which is mounted to an outer surface of the bag. The bag is filled with a fluid and includes a plurality of fluidically connected sections formed to restrict a flow of fluid between the sections. The pressure sensor includes a diaphragm and is mounted to the bag with the diaphragm being positioned against the outer surface of the bag such that the pressure sensor provides an indication of a pressure of the fluid in response to movements of the outer surface toward the diaphragm.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1997Date of Patent: March 28, 2000Assignee: Kavlico CorporationInventor: Gary L. Patent number: 6041659Abstract: The apparatus of the invention includes a sensor header and a sensor cover which are coupled to a prior art diaphragm assembly. The sensor header is provided with two piezoresistive silicon membrane strain gauges. One side of both strain gauges is exposed to fluid at upstream high pressure. The other side of the first strain gauge is exposed to fluid at downstream low pressure and the other side of the second strain gauge is exposed to the atmosphere. The sensor header is provided with a first port which is fluidly coupled to the first membrane strain gauge and extends to the surface of the header at a first location. The sensor header is provided with a second port which is fluidly coupled to the second membrane strain gauge and extends to the surface of the header at a second location. The sensor cover defines two isolated annular spaces around the sensor header, a first annular space around the first location and a second annular space around the second location.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 1998Date of Patent: March 28, 2000Assignee: Honeywell Inc.Inventors: Douglas W. Wilda, James V. Davidson, Max C. Glenn, Thomas P. Overholt, Raymond F. McMullen

Patent number: 6041660Abstract: A tensile strength tester feasible of the present invention is feasible for automation and includes a rotating member and a pulling member connected to each other. A torque is transferred from the rotating member to the pulling member with a counterforce being absorbed at the position where the two members are connected. Such a connecting portion is prevented from becoming loose. The tester is capable of measuring a tensile strength when a screw member fitted in a base material is pulled out of the base material.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1998Date of Patent: March 28, 2000Assignee: Ricoh Company, Ltd.Inventors: Junichi Fujitaka, Yuichi Jibiki

Patent number: 6041661Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for obtaining data relating to the compressive failure characteristics of a liner of a board sample which includes the following. A sample is aligned within a pivotal retaining mechanism of a testing device adapted to rotate about a line. A displacement force is applied at a constant rate to at least one edge of the liner such that the rotatable retaining mechanism allows self-positioning of the sample. Measurements are taken regularly of load and/or deflection observed until the liner fails.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1997Date of Patent: March 28, 2000Assignee: AMCOR LimitedInventor: Peter Robert McKinlay

Patent number: 6041662Abstract: A procedure for the determination of the true average peak velocity of particulate laden liquids in a tube, by the use of a Doppler ultrasonic transducer inserted in said tube. The average peak velocity (APV) and the null and first moment (M0 or M1) of the entire spectrum are obtained. The measured correlation between the null or first moment (M0 or M1) and APV are compared with a corresponding standard value which represents the correlation between M0 or M1 and APV upon optimal positioning of the Doppler ultrasonic transducer whereby where there is a deviation from the standard value, the transducer is moved until the values coincide.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1997Date of Patent: March 28, 2000Assignee: Endosonics CorporationInventor: Rolf Jenni

Patent number: 6041665Abstract: A mass flow meter for flowing media, which operates according to the Coriolis principle, has one straight Coriolis measuring tube, several oscillation generators acting on the Coriolis measuring tube and several sensors detecting Coriolis forces and/or Coriolis oscillations based on Coriolis forces. The oscillation generators are designed and arranged so that the Coriolis measuring tube oscillates around its longitudinal axis enabling the flow of gases to be measured with high measuring accuracy.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 1998Date of Patent: March 28, 2000Assignee: Krohne A.G.Inventor: Yousif A. Patent number: 6041666Abstract: The present invention relates to a strap tension measurement device (10) that facilitates measuring of the tension in straps, especially straps that have been installed in a manufactured home stabilizing system. The device generally includes a body portion (12) and a strap engagement portion (14). The body portion is typically formed from thick metallic plate material such as steel plating and includes an elongated indicator portion (18) that is used to indicate to the operator the position at which the measurement is to be taken. The strap engagement portion includes upper (26) and lower (28) strap abutment members that together form a narrow slot (30) that is sized and shaped for receipt of a strap to be tested. The measurement device typically is used in conjunction with a force measurement tool, such as a conventional torque wrench, that connects to the strap tension measurement device at a connection aperture (16) formed in the body portion.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 1998Date of Patent: March 28, 2000Inventor: Charles J.
