  • Patent number: 6076429
Abstract: A differential mechanism of the holdout ring type is characterized by improved annular clutch plates with trapezoidally configured cam teeth for mating with the center cam teeth of the center cam. Each clutch plate has inner cam and outer clutch teeth extending from a planar surface thereof with a gap between the inner and outer teeth receiving a holdout ring. The inner cam teeth have a base wider than the top portion thereof so that there is surface to surface contact with the center cam teeth. This reduces torque in the clutch cam teeth and provides smoother operation and a longer service life to the differential.

  • Patent number: 6076430
Abstract: A vehicle transmission assembly includes a main gear box and an auxiliary or range gear box. An electrical actuation device for effecting changes in the range gear box preferably includes a solenoid actuator associated with each of the range gear members. A switch, which is preferably provided on the shift lever handle, allows the driver of the vehicle to indicate a desire to make a change in the range gear box. The solenoid actuators are responsive to the electrical switch to effect the range shift. The electrical components replace pneumatic components and associated fittings and airlines used with some prior systems. A further feature of this invention is to include a synchronizer protection circuit that disables the solenoid actuators unless prescribed transmission conditions are met.

  • Patent number: 6076449
Abstract: A variable displacement compressor includes a swash plate supported tiltably on a drive shaft and slidable in axial directions of the drive shaft. The swash plate has a central support hole into which the drive shaft is inserted. The swash plate has a top dead center point for positioning the piston at a top dead center position and a bottom dead center point for positioning the piston at a bottom dead center position. The center of gravity of the swash plate is displaced from the axis of the drive shaft toward the top dead center point. This location of the center of gravity maintains the radial position of the swash plate relative to the drive shaft by centrifugal force acting on the swash plate when the swash plate rotates. As a result, the compressor is quieter and more stable.

  • Patent number: 6076463
Abstract: An ink metering device and method. Ink is fed at a pressure to an orifice. Pressure may be achieved by either an ink pump or a gravity feed. The size of the orifice may be varied according the conditions existing in the printing press. The pressure at which the ink is fed may also be varied. Ink exiting the orifice is fed onto the surface of an ink applicator roll. At a location downstream of the orifice, a control blade is positioned adjacent the outer surface of the ink applicator roll. The distance between the tip of the control blade and the outer surface of the ink applicator roll may be varied using a control blade positioning mechanism. The distance between the tip of the control blade and the outer surface of the ink applicator roll controls the smoothness and/or the thickness of an ink film which is created on the surface of the ink applicator roll. This film is transferred directly to the image or plate cylinder, which is in contact with the outer surface of the ink applicator roll.

That is performed by creating a pixel grid image having a plurality of individual pixel images showing the defect. A gray scale value is assigned to each pixel image of the pixel grid image and a probable center pixel of the defect is selected. Then the polarity of the defect is determined, with a coarse center pixel of the defect optionally selected using the probable center defect and polarity of the defect. If a coarse center pixel is selected, then a fine center of the defect can optionally be selected from the coarse center pixel and polarity of the defect. From the center pixel the physical extent of the defect can be determined followed by the determination the transmissivity energy level of the physical extent of the defect.

  • Patent number: 6076468
Abstract: In order to fill an inflatable safety restraint device such as an air bag, a relatively small pyrotechnic charge is used to pressurize a chamber of water or other suitable liquid and force the liquid out of the chamber and through a conduit in a manner wherein it is caused to intimately mix and atomize in a high speed stream of gas resulting from the combustion of the pyrotechnic charge. The heat of the combustion gas is absorbed by the liquid which is then converted into a large volume. The vaporized liquid and combustion gas is used to inflate the air bag with an essentially non-toxic, low temperature, low particulate atmosphere. The resulting combustion gas and liquid mixture may also be used to extinguish a fire.

  • Patent number: 6076478
Abstract: Apparatus for raising and lowering boats in water. The apparatus consists essentially of at least one float that is attached to the hull of the boat and is guided along the surface of the hull of the boat at least partially below water level when a force is applied to it. Preferably at least two floats that are permanently or displaceably attached to the apparatus support in the longitudinal direction and are provided on the side of the support which is intended to accommodate the hull of a boat. The entire device is designed so it is adjustable in height and is connected to a stationary land-based mooring point with an articulated joint. This device is especially reliable for raising a boat out of the water and docking the boat above the water line without risking canting. This result is possible in an inexpensive and very simple manner with the invention. The usable width of the entire device is greatly reduced from previously known such devices.
