Abstract: Timber drying apparatus comprises a housing defining a microwave cavity (4) for containing a quantity of timber, a microwave generator (1) coupled to the housing for introducing microwave energy into the cavity, temperature sensing means (13) arranged to sense the temperature of timber within the cavity and/or weight sensing means (8) for sensing the weight of timber within the cavity and control means for varying the power output of the microwave generator in response to the sense temperature and/or weight. The humidity and/or air temperature may also be sensed in the cavity. The timber may be oscillated within the cavity.

Abstract: A shoe made of flexible material having an outer sole. The outsole having an inner surface, an underside, a longitudinal axis, a heel zone, a toe zone, a ball between the toe and heel zones, and an edge surrounding the sole surface. The inner surface includes inner projecting elements wherein inner projecting elements form a substantially rectangular grid. The underside includes outer projecting elements wherein the outer projecting elements are interrupted webs that extend substantially transversely to the longitudinal axis, at least one longitudinal rib on the underside parallel to the edge on the sole underside, and a sickle-shaped reinforcement zone on the inner surface filling a portion of the rectangular grid between the ball of the foot zone and the heel zone.

Abstract: A shell for sports shoes, particularly for Telemark skiing, which comprises a sole and a lateral surface which surrounds the foot of the user. A frame is rigidly coupled internally to the shell and has a foot resting surface and a toe cup which partially extends over the upper metatarsal region. On the resting surface and on the toe cup there are, respectively, at least one first transverse opening, arranged below the metatarsal region, and at least one second transverse opening, which lies above the metatarsal region. A transverse bridge, arranged in the region that lies to the rear of the metatarsus, is thus formed at the toe cup. The resulting shell is therefore highly flexible but torsionally rigid, making it easier for the user to ski.

Abstract: A snowshoe has both a compact stored configuration and a usable configuration. A frame of the snowshoes includes a plurality of segments which can be disconnected from each other, folded upon each other, or telescopically inserted into one another thus allowing the frame to be collapsed to a fraction of its original size when not being used. When collapsed the effective length of the frame members is greatly reduced. The frame can be readily assembled and disassembled. The frame is fabricated from a material which is both lightweight and strong. A snowshoe binding structure is also lightweight and compactible to a small size and particularly suited for use with a compatible snowshoe. A deck, fabricated from a flexible material, is coupled to the frame during use and is removed when the frame is compacted for storage. When in its compact storage configuration the snowshoe components are arranged in an easily stored bundle.

Abstract: A spike for a golf shoe is provided which has a base portion adapted for attachment to the golf shoe for providing traction on turf. This spike is injection molded with a mixture of a polymer material and an abrasive grit material. As such, this material improves the resistance of the spike to wear and abrasion.

Abstract: An orthoinsert for shoes to control and correct many types of abnormally functioning feet. The orthoinsert comprises an insole plate which has the full length of an entire foot or a length corresponding to the length of an insole except the forefoot part, an arch filler and a heel site for holding the heel in well-aligned position. The arch filler and the heel site are integrated with the plate. A forefoot wedge is attached to the fore part of the undersurface of the insole plate to control the angle of the forefoot to the ground surface. A rearfoot wedge is attached to the rear part of the undersurface of the insole plate to control and correct the angle of the rearfoot to the ground surface to provide and achieve a total underfoot comfort during walking. Three types of orthoinsert accommodate semipronated, oversupinated and hyperpronated feet.

Abstract: A patterned zipper tape fabrication method including the steps of (1) preparing warp yarns and weft yarns, (2) using a jacquard knitting machine to knit the prepared warp yarns and weft yarns into patterned zipper tapes each having a cord along one side edge and a trademark and/or a logo, and (3) using a zipper tape ironing apparatus to iron patterned zipper tapes being transferred from said jacquard knitting machine. The invention relates also to the zipper tape ironing apparatus used in the patterned zipper tape fabrication method.

Abstract: An electric flatiron which substantially eliminates the scorching or burning of fabric material to be ironed. The electric flatiron comprises a housing having a handle attached thereto, a metallic sole plate in electrical contract with electric leads and including a plurality of spaced bores therein, and spring urged ball bearing glide assemblies mounted with each spaced bore in the sole plate which is adapted to extend in the order of one-eighth to one-quarter includes below the lower surface of the sole plate when there is no or little pressure upon the handle of the housing but moves upwardly beyond the lower surface of the sole plate when pressure is placed upon the handle of the housing during the ironing process.

Abstract: A device for ironing laundry having a regulating device and a drip-stop valve arranged in series in a passageway between the water tank and the steam chamber for supplying cold water to the steam chamber for normal steaming operation and a bypass which bypasses the drip-stop valve and in which a valve is arranged for supplying a large amount of cold water directly to the steam chamber for cleaning the steam chamber. For an effective cleaning the location where cold water for cleaning the steam chamber is supplied to the steam chamber is substantially the same as the location where cold water for normal steaming operation during ironing is supplied to the steam chamber.

Abstract: A photograph display assembly and method which has particular application for outdoor use in combination with memorials or tombstones. The design utilizes a double-sided acrylic tape to hermetically seal a covering lens and to affix a frame assembly to a wall. The particular frame structure and method disclosed may be used for various sizes of pictorial or other written displays. The frame assembly includes a compartment or recessed area for a silica gel packet. The method steps of the invention include appropriate surface cleaning and the overall design make be easily installed and used.

Abstract: A tombstone picture display for displaying photos, pictures, and other images on a tombstone. The tombstone picture display includes a holder for mounting to a tombstone which has front, back, and top faces. The holder also has a slot in the top face of the holder and a front opening in the front face of the holder in communication with the slot of the holder. A cover is also included with inner and outer faces, and a window to permit viewing through the cover between the inner and outer faces of the cover. The inner face of the housing is coupled to the front face of the holder such that the cover covers the front face of the holder and the front opening of the holder is visible through the window of the cover.

Abstract: A display system for translucent objects comprising a shelf having an upper surface and a lower surface with apertures extending through the shelf. A fiber optic strand has an input end and an output end positioned through each aperture with its output end located at the upper surface of a shelf and with the strands extending downwardly to the bottom end and rearwardly thereof and terminating at a remote location. A source of illumination is located adjacent to the input end with a color wheel is rotatable in a path of travel between the source of illumination and the input ends of the bundle, the color wheel including segments of different colors whereby rotation of the color wheel while the source of illumination is illuminated will effect a continuous change of colors at the output end for providing a simulated internal luminescence of the objects being displayed. A supplemental shelf is located above the shelf with a lower surface.

Abstract: A display device (30), particularly for use as a menu board in a restaurant or the like. The device (30) has at least two rotatable roller members (31 or 32) located in substantially parallel spaced apart relationship. Carrier means (38) is provided, tightly supported by and rotatable about the rollers (31 and 32) and adapted to receive at least one display means (36) thereon. Each of the carrier means (38) and said display means (36) are constructed at least partially of substantially flexible and translucent material. Illumination means (37) are provided behind at least a portion of said carrier means (38), to illuminate a viewing portion of said carrier means (38) and said display means (36) thereon.

Abstract: An internally illuminated sign is capable of being mounted on a lighting track. The sign includes an adapter for mechanical and electrical connection to the lighting track. A display housing is connected to the adapter. The housing has a substantially vertical face with a message window in the face. A translucent message assembly is removably mounted in the housing adjacent to the window. The housing has a movable section selectively relocateable relative to the message window to provide access to the interior of the housing for selective insertion into or removal from the housing said message assembly. An illumination source is mounted in the housing adjacent to the side of the translucent message assembly positioned away from the window to enhance visibility of a message on the message assembly through the message window.

Abstract: A modular display sign having a base section with a base support rail secured to the base section. A first display section is removably attached to the base support rail in a plane perpendicular to the base section. At least one second display section is removably attached to the first display section in a plane perpendicular to the base section. This arrangement enables the vertical stacking of display sections thereby increasing the display area and adjusting the height of the display sign.

Abstract: A display device for displaying a display object includes a mounting formation for holding the display device in place, an attachment formation for attaching a display object to the display device, and a connecting member linking the mounting formation and the attachment formation. The mounting formation is configured such that it is capable of locking securely to a container or base structures. The connecting member holds the attachment formation at a position remote from the mounting formation. The attachment formation includes a control zone, and the control zone includes an entrance into which an attachment member on the display object may be inserted. The control zone further includes at least one stop formation projecting traversely across the control zone such that a part of the display object attachment member may abut against the stop formation to inhibit withdrawal of the display object attachment member through the control zone entrance.

Abstract: A card carrying case includes a U-shaped housing and an insert for insertion therein. The housing has a bottom member and two side members wherein each member includes an edge portion and a flange extending inward along a front face of the case for retaining the cards within the housing. A support member extends across a rear face of the housing from one side member to the other for retaining the cards. A plurality of cylindrical protrusions mount on the support member for co-operating with a plurality of apertures in the insert and for retaining the insert within the housing. The insert includes a pair of leaf springs extending from the support member towards the bottom member for urging the cards to engage the flanges of the bottom and two sides. The insert also includes a pair of fingers extending from the support member towards a top end of the housing.

Abstract: A label holder for displaying information-containing non-adhesive labels or signs on a channel member at the front of a variety of forms of merchandise shelves in a supermarket or the like, particularly adapted for secure support and ready attachment to both Streator and Lozier type shelf systems wherein the height and configuration of the channel members are different. The label holder may be a co-extrusion of an opaque body panel and a transparent cover resiliently connected along their lower edges to define a label-receiving pocket therebetween. An upwardly and rearwardly extending leg member is integral with the rear of the body panel and underlies and extends behind the channel member. A lower finger is also carried by the rear of the body panel and is biasingly engaged with the upper surface of the lower flange of the channel member. An upper finger is provided on the upper edge of the body panel and is biasingly engaged with the lower surface of the upper flange of the channel member.

Abstract: A stereo slide mount can reproduce an accurate stereo effect to facilitate easiness of mounting operation and accurate positioning. Plural types of stereo slide mounts 1 (#1 to #n) that widths W of windows stepwisely decrease have the same pitch Pw of the windows and different width W of the windows and fitting pitches of right and left films. A base film is provided with a positioning pin 6 for engaging perforations of the film, and a cover frame is provided with pin holes 7 to be engaged with the positioning pins 6. The positioning pins 6 and the pin holes 7 are provided at positions that the inner vertical sides of the windows are brought into agreement with the inner edges of the pictures of the film. The stereo slide mount having smaller widths of the windows increases gap width (P.sub.0, P.sub.1, P.sub.2, . . . ) between two sets of right and left positioning pins 6 to extend the pitches of the right and left films, and the outer masking amounts of the right and left films increase.

Abstract: A stereo slide mount system that can reproduce an accurate stereo effect to facilitate a mounting operation and accurate positioning. A transverse or vertical alignment or positioning guide is used to position the stereo slide film in combination with longitudinal positioning pins. In one embodiment, the vertical positioning guide comprises a plurality of pins, and in another embodiment a plurality of raised edges. A set of plural types of stereo slide mounts 1 (#0 to #n) in which the width W of windows stepwisely decreases with each mount having the same window pitch Pw and different window widths W. A base frame is provided with positioning pins for engaging perforations on the film, and a cover frame is provided with pin holes to be engaged with the positioning pins. The positioning pins and the pin holes are provided at positions such that the inner vertical edges of the windows are brought into agreement with the inner edges of the pictures of the film.

Abstract: Improvements in automatic fishhook setting devices. An automated fishhook tackle system comprising a fishing line, a hooking device and a fishhook setting device. The fishhook setting device includes a cylindrical housing with a barrel and a bore extending therethrough, and upper and lower caps. The bore contains a plunger and a compression-type coil spring. The plunger includes a shaft and upper and lower ends. The shaft of the plunger extends through the coil spring which is positioned within the bore between the lower cap of the housing and an overhanging lip formed by the upper end of the plunger. The shaft further includes a notch defining an upwardly directed abutment surface. The plunger may be drawn from the housing so as to compress the spring.

Abstract: An ice fishing apparatus for alerting a fisherman when a fish has been caught includes a housing having an open end for covering an ice fishing hole. A shaft extends through the housing about which a fishing line with hook is wound. The fishing line with hook is extended through the open end of the housing for catching a fish beneath the ice. The apparatus further includes a flag assembly having a flexible flag shaft which is attached to the housing. The flag shaft includes a flag at its upper end, the flag shaft having a first flexed position in which the flag extends in a generally upward direction and a second flexed position in which the flag is generally below the top of the housing. The apparatus includes a handle for unwinding and extending the fishing line into the fishing hole. The flag shaft is maintained in the flexed position by bearing against the handle until a fish is caught on the hook.

Abstract: The object of the invention is to solve the problem associated with a fishing rod reel seat in which a nut type movable hood scrapes a surface of a body at a position opposite to a mounting foot of the reel when the nut type movable hood causes the mounting foot of the reel to be pressed, a reel seat is provided with a body 33 having a reel foot seat surface 51, a cylindrical movable hood 37 threadedly fitted around the body 33 and a body protector 43 disposed within the movable hood 37. When the movable hood 37 is advanced under the condition that a mounting foot 73 of the reel 71 is seated on the reel foot seat surface 51, one end portion of the mounting foot 73 is inserted into the movable hood 37, and the one end portion is brought into pressing contact with the reel foot seat surface 51. Before that, the body protector 43 is brought into contact with the body 33 on the opposite side to the real foot seat surface 51.

Abstract: In a fishing rod having a reel seat on a rod pipe, the fishing rod has a finger trigger on the side which is opposite to the side where the reel seat is provided, in such a manner that the finger trigger is so positioned and configured as to allow an angler to cast the fishing line while palming the fishing rod and a reel mounted on the reel seat with one hand.

Abstract: A weedless fishing lure that does not have an exposed hook until a sufficient tension is placed on the line. The lure comprises a body having an aperture therethrough and at least one channel. A fishing line extends through the aperture and is attached to the shank of a hook. The hook is placed into a channel changing the direction the line runs from that in the aperture so that the line in the channel runs in the opposite direction than that in the aperture. The tip of the hook may be placed in the aperture or in a separate channel. Using this configuration, the hook will be dislodged from the body if sufficient tension is placed on the line.

Abstract: An elastomer fishing lure skirt having a feathered distal portion for creating a pulsating and undulating action in the skirt as it moves through the water. The skirt includes a plurality of filaments bound to one another, each filament including a first segment and a second segment. Each filament further includes a proximal section, a distal section of lesser cross sectional dimension, and a tapered section disposed intermediate the proximal and distal sections. The tapered section and distal section form a feathered portion that pulsates and undulates when the skirt is in use.

Abstract: A well structure useful for keeping fish alive while fishing or for storing personal belongs while boating is described. The well structure includes a container defining a well cavity, the container including a flexible, water retaining material, a first top container edge and an opposing second top container edge. Support fasteners are attached to both ends of the first and second top container edges and configured to removably attach to a rigid structure. The support fasteners are positionable to bring the first and second top container edges together in a closed position and the support fasteners are positionable to maintain the first and second top container edges apart in an open position. The well structure preferably includes a work surface panel that extends between the first and second container edges when the container is in the open position.

Abstract: A portable electronic insect-killing device includes a handle connected to an insulating frame which has top and bottom frame portions, and a plurality of negative and positive bare wires which extend alternately from the top to bottom frame portions in a plane. The top frame portion has a front surface adjacent and parallel to the plane of the wires, and a plurality of shallow recesses in the surface to receive the negative and positive wires. Adjacent shallow recesses are spaced apart from each other via deep isolating valleys which are indented from the front surface to a depth greater than the depth of the shallow recesses. The shallow recesses and deep isolating valleys have substantially the same length along the direction of the bare wires so that the top frame portion is free of any part to bridge adjacent shallow recesses, thereby preventing possible occurrence of short-circuiting when the surface of the top frame portion is wetted.

Abstract: The invention is of a modular landscape border system with constituent accessory units which interlock in a swivel interface to define a border of length limited only by the number of units used. The units are of unibody construction and are made of durable, high density polyethylene. A completed border assemblage according to the preferred embodiment provides an alternating array of circular and elongate receptacles which can be filled with any choice of plants or decorative materials (rocks, shells, bark, etc.).

Abstract: In the horticulture, large amounts of growth substrate blocks are used for the growing of cuttings, and these blocks should preferably be surrounded by a paper like casing. For the very manufacturing of these block packaging the casing material should be of a reasonably strong and good quality, which, however, may cause problems later on, when the plant roots during their growth pack against the casing wall. With the invention there is used for the casing a dual fraction material comprising partly a long-time durable, open web and partly a reinforcing and more or less web filling or covering material of a type that is brought to disintegrate either in the manufacturing process or in a suitably rapid manner by the natural influences, in particular moisturing, to which the blocks are exposed when taken in use. Thereafter, the said web may hold the block together without preventing root penetration.

Abstract: A plant packaging and covering system comprising a floral sleeve having a base and skirt. The sleeve may have an upper protective sleeve portion for enclosing a plant disposed in a pot and which can be detached once the protective function of the sleeve has been completed. The sleeve has expansion devices comprising a plurality of expandable folds for allowing portions of the base portion to expand to conform to the shape of a pot when a pot is disposed within the sleeve.

Abstract: A sleeve used to wrap items such as potted plants. The sleeve may have an open or closed bottom. When closed, the bottom may have a gusset for allowing expansion upon the depositing of the pot into the sleeve. The sleeve has a detachable upper portion. The sleeve may have a bonding material disposed upon an inner or outer portion of the sleeve for attaching the sleeve to the pot or item.

Abstract: A sectional gate assembly to move a sectional gate between an open position and a closed position by an upper and lower closing element. The upper closing element is flexibly connected with the lower closing element, and both the upper and lower closing elements each have a first and a second opposite side and one or more guides which are arranged on each of the first and second opposite sides of the closing elements. The sectional gate assembly includes a first and a second single track guide rail. The first and second guide rails each have a vertical section and a horizontal section connected with a curved portion. One or more of the guides on the upper and lower closing elements are adapted to move within the guide rail. A weight-counterbalancer is included in the sectional gate assembly.

Abstract: A bi-directionally swinging door which seals into a doorjamb. A push button actuator causes the retractable edges to move away from the doorjamb and retract into the door, allowing the door swing either in or out.

Abstract: A panel system for use on walls and roofs with alternating upper and lower panels, side by side, in a generally vertical orientation, the upper panels being mounted on a filler board with a notch formed at the base of the filler board on both vertical edges, the lower panel being locked into the notch and the vertical edges of the upper panels being folded over the edges of the lower panels to form a sealed joint and retain both panels in place.

Abstract: A mausoleum and method of constructing a mausoleum. The mausoleum may include plurality of vertically extending walls supportable on a surface, wherein at least one vertically extending wall has a plurality of cells integrally formed therein. At least one cell is substantially filled with a filler material. A roof is supported on the vertically extending walls and cooperates with those walls to define at least one crypt niche having at least one open end. A closure panel corresponding to each open end of each crypt niche is provided. One or more cells within the walls may be unfilled to serve as drain and/or vent passages for each niche. Shelf assemblies may be supported within each niche to form chambers for receiving caskets therein. Each shelf may have open cells formed therein which can communicate with open cells within the walls. A lawn crypt manufactured from similar materials is also disclosed.

Abstract: A mounting system that is capable of effectively draining the rainwater off the roof, while enabling easy installation of the solar battery modules. The mounting system is adapted to install on the roof an array of the solar battery modules each of a panel-like configuration with a rectangular frame. The system includes a plurality of vertical rails which are secured to the roof and extend along a roof sloping direction towards eaves from a ridge of the roof for holding the solar battery modules between a laterally spaced pair of the vertical rails in a spaced relation from a roof sheathing. Each of the vertical rails is formed on opposite sides thereof respectively with stepped shoulders which extend the full length of the vertical rail for supporting thereon the frame of the laterally adjoining solar battery modules.

Abstract: The shading system includes a plurality of shading elements forming groups of elements for each window of a building. The elements generally have non-horizontal and non-vertical slope and tilt angles. The slope and tilt angles are determined by the latitude of the building and compass bearing of a plane through the window. All of the elements for each window lie parallel to one another and are nonmovable. By calculating slope and tilt angles for each compass bearing and building latitude, the solar heat gain in the summer can be minimized and solar heat gain in the winter can be maintained.

The unit is suspended from a structure, such as a building framework, by a supporting assembly which extends through apertures in the first and second panes respectively. Before the adhesive is cured, a simultaneous tension force is applied to the fiber reinforcements and an equilibrium compression force is applied to the first and second wood strands. The adhesive is cured while maintaining the tension force to the fiber reinforcements and the compression force to the wood strands. The prestressed wood composite laminate is attached to a tension zone of a wood member. The wood member has a tension zone and a compression zone so that a neutral plane is disposed between the tension zone and the compression zone.

Abstract: A panel unit for roof drainage comprises plural panel sections with adjoining ones of the plural panel sections connected to be foldably collapsed on one another into a storage (e.g., transport) unit. In one embodiment, the panel sections are connected together for folding, e.g., by a hinge. Roofing saddles and roofing crickets of the present invention are formed using one or more sets of panel units. Sets of panel units are fabricated to have essentially the same footprint on the roof, although a lastly installed one of the sets of panel units is modified on site. A method of installing a roofing saddle comprised of the panel units is also provided.

Abstract: A panel structure attachable to a wall, or ceiling. The panel structure may be used to mount shelf holders and utilizes a first member having first and second sides. The first side of the first member contacts the wall. A shelf standard is included for providing support for shelf holders. A backing member positions to the second side of the first member and to the shelf standard. Fastening of the backing member to the shelf standard and to the first member forms a unit. A second member, generally positioned angularly relative to the first member is positioned adjacent the backing member. Facia elements are fastened to the second member and lie adjacent the shelf standard which extends through the facia element.
