  • Patent number: 6105582
Abstract: Method and apparatus for detecting and treating cerebral blood vessel collapse (54) during intracranial hypertension or vasospasm by affecting cerebral venous outflow pressure (61). Venous collapse is diagnosed by lowering jugular venous bulb pressure (61) and detecting significant, progressively increasing gradient between it and ICP (60). Rising jugular venous pressure initially the collapse is terminated and then ICP starts to increase. Increasing jugular venous pressure opens collapsed vascular segments by increasing intravascular pressure. There is no increase in ICP if jugular venous pressure is maintained below value that affects ICP. During life-threatening vascular collapse caused by a plateau wave or vasospasm venous outflow pressure is temporarily increased to a level necessary to terminate collapse regardless of ICP. This is accomplished by venous occlusion catheter placed into dominant jugular vein.

  • Patent number: 6105589
Abstract: An improved method and apparatus are provided for cleaning the specimen and interior specimen chamber of Electron Microscopes, and similar electron beam instruments. The apparatus consists of a glow-discharge, oxygen-radical generator placed on a specimen chamber port with an excitation source to create a low-power glow-discharge plasma inside the generator. Air or other oxygen and nitrogen mixture is admitted to the generator at a pressure between 0.3 Torr and 5 Torr. The low power glow discharge is used to disassociate oxygen preferentially over nitrogen to create the oxygen radicals. The oxygen radicals then disperse by convection throughout the chamber to clean hydrocarbons from the surfaces of the chamber, stage and specimen by oxidation to CO and H.sub.2 O gases. The excitation power of the plasma is limited to limit the nitrogen ion production that destroys the oxygen radicals and to limit the projection of the electrically active plasma into the specimen chamber.

  • Patent number: 6105619
Abstract: A pipe repair apparatus includes an outer carrier tube, an inner bladder tube within the carrier tube, and a repair sleeve within the bladder tube. The bladder tube and the carrier tube are formed by one unitary tube which is folded back upon itself. A wick extends from the repair sleeve to the rear end of the bladder tube and permits evacuation of gases from the bladder tube when the bladder tube is flattened by a vacuum during insertion of a curable resin into the bladder tube at its forward end. The bladder tube can be inverted out of the carrier tube so as to place the repair sleeve in contact with an area to be repaired within a sewer pipe. This method may also be used to repair the damaged joint between a lateral sewer line and a main sewer line.

  • Patent number: 6105627
Abstract: During weft yarn insertion in a loom, as the end of weft yarn insertion approaches, a controllable yarn deviation brake (B), positioned between a weft feeder (M) and a warp shed (F) of a loom (D) brakes the weft yarn (Y) with a high braking force, causing a deviation of the yarn deviation brake which subsequently smooths down a tension peak of the yarn, so as to partially reduce the yarn brake deviation back towards the starting position, or position having no deviation. The same function is performed upon cutting of the weft yarn (Y). After braking and reduction of the yarn tension peak, during the weft insertion step, the braking force is reduced to a level correlated to the yarn tension which prevails up to cutting of the weft yarn (Y).
