  • Patent number: 6138545
Abstract: The cutting mechanism includes a cutter block mounting a knife blade arranged for movement along a slot in a cutting table. The cutter block is driven by a cable and a first drive pulley. The cable extends under and around the first drive pulley and a second pulley, with the first end of the cable fixed to a second end of the cutter block, and the second end of the cable fixed to a first end of the cutter block. The cable and the first and second pulleys are arranged such that when the cutter block lies between the first end of the slot in the table and a center of first drive pulley the first and second ends of the cable are drawn taut thereby stopping movement of the cutter block along the slot towards the first end, and such that when the cutter block lies between the second end of the slot in the table and a center of the second pulley the first and second ends of the cable are likewise drawn taut stopping movement of the cutter block along the slot towards the second end.

  • Patent number: 6138546
Abstract: A hand operated cutting apparatus and method of cutting mat board, glass, and other related sheet-like framing material. The apparatus has a cutting head assembly which includes a plurality of interchangeable and adjustable blade holding units. Each blade holding unit provides a different type of cut, such as a beveled, straight edge, or V-groove cut. Most of the blade holding units are intended for use with mat board, but some can be used to cut and trim sheet-like glass or plastic framing material. Each blade holding unit is also capable of vertical adjustment relative to the workpiece so that various depths of cut can be provided. The method of cutting a mat board permits the mat board to be positioned face up on the base board of the cutting apparatus and does not require flipping or taping of the mat board during V-groove cutting operations.

  • Patent number: 6138555
Abstract: A safer power supply is used in conjunction with a system for preserving food, oil, organs, or other organic material. The power supply constantly applies a high voltage-weak pulse electric voltage, generated by a transformer using an alternating-current power supply of commercial frequency, with the voltage applied through an electrically conducting electrode to the food or other organic materials. In the power supply, one pole of the secondary winding is sealed for increased safety. By applying or impressing high voltage-weak pulse electric current to frying oil or other organic materials using the power supply and/or the preservation system, the high voltages restrain deterioration of frying oil and enables long-term use. Installed on a food container which is placed in a refrigerator, the power supply safely applies high voltage-weak pulse electric current to meat and fish in the container, and so suppresses propagation of germs and deterioration.

  • Patent number: 6138562
Abstract: Solder Paste, adhesives and other materials are screen printed onto Printed Circuit Boards (PCB's) during the assembly process for electronic circuit assemblies. Pressure forces may be applied to the material to aid in separating the material from the apertures within the stencil. The pressure forces are created from sound pressure waves generated from a vibrational energy source located some distance from the stencil. Examples of non-contacting vibrational energy sources include Ultrasonic transducers, horns, speakers, and tuning forks. Additional assistance to separate the material from the apertures may be applied by a vibrational source by contacting to the stencil. • Patent number: 6138564
Abstract: For regulating the pressure in a pressure chamber, in particular in a pneumatic brake apparatus for a web-type recording medium, an actual pressure is set in the pressure chamber dependent on an actual angle of rotation of a rotary valve. The actual angle of rotation of the rotary valve and the actual pressure in the pressure chamber are acquired. A target pressure and a target angle of rotation allocated to this target pressure are predetermined, and a pressure deviation between the actual pressure and the target pressure are determined, as is a deviation of the angle of rotation between the actual angle of rotation and the target angle of rotation. An adjusting unit sets the angle of rotation at the rotary valve, first dependent on the deviation of the angle of rotation and then dependent on the pressure deviation. Furthermore, a sensor for acquiring the angle of rotation is specified.

Abstract: A ventilated transportable freight container is disclosed. The container is ventilated by natural convection through at least one lower side vent comprising a lower plenum chamber for distributing air into the container and restricting entry of moisture in the form of rain, sleet or snow into the container and at least one upper top vent, including a plenum chamber. The upper top vent or vents may be formed in the sidewall of the enclosure or in the roof of the enclosure depending upon the structure of the container and the particular application. The use of one or more upper top vents enhances circulation of air by natural convection. The invention also incorporates sidewall and endwall spacers extending from the sidewalls and endwalls into the enclosure to provide passageways for the circulation of air to ventilate the enclosure and a path for condensation drainage. In one embodiment of the invention, the transportable freight container of present invention comprises a rail freight car.

Abstract: A railcar has a substructure, a superstructure and side webwork joining the substructure and the superstructure, leaving an interior space suitable for carrying automobiles. The number of automobiles carried within the railcar structure, and the versatility of the railcar, are improved by using an adjustable decking structure which allows vehicles of different sizes to be carried. The decking is moveable to permit a lower, or main deck to be loaded before loading other decks. The decking structure is also movable between a two deck and a three deck configuration. Middle and upper decks may be adjusted and loaded in a suitable manner. Provision is made for the adjustable decks to be driven positively both upward and downward.

Abstract: An arrangement for burning refuse in which the refuse is deposited on a grate and transported to a drop-out shaft. A part of the air supplied for burning the refuse is transmitted as primary air from below the grate. A part of the air is also blown into a combustion chamber as secondary air. The resulting flue gas from the combustion is moved in a direct or parallel stream with the refuse to an end region of the combustion chamber, and deflected in direction and injected through an opening in a flue gas channel having a vertical center plane and two channel halves on both sides of the plane. At least a secondary air stream is blown into blown channel halves in the region of the channel opening, mirror-symmetrically to the center plane. The second air stream is blown in with a rotary pulse relative to a center axis of a cross-section of the channel halves. Two oppositely rotating swirls are generated by the secondary air streams in the channel halves symmetrically to the vertical center plane.

Abstract: A method of operating a pulverized coal-firing furnace is provided which includes injecting air from an upper compartment generally in opposition to a swirling fireball. The method also provides the step of sensing a temperature characteristic of one side of a convection pass of the furnace. The sensed value, in accordance with the method of the present invention, is then evaluated to determine if the sensed value of the temperature characteristic exceeds an allowable value. In response to a determination that the temperature characteristic exceeds the allowable value, the momentum of the air injected through the upper air compartment is changed. After the step of changing the momentum of the air injected through the upper air compartment, the temperature characteristic of the one convection pass location is sensed to obtain a post adjustment value of the temperature characteristic and compared to an allowable value.
