Abstract: In the method for balancing a body of revolution using a balancing machine which comprises an adjustment means for positional resetting of compensation masses, firstly the compensation masses are brought into zero positions thereof, wherein the imbalance vectors produced thereby cancel each other out. Then in a known manner the imbalance vector VI present is measured in terms of its magnitude and direction. After this at least one of the compensation masses is reset by shifting through any desired angle &agr; or by changing its distance from the axis of rotation, an additional imbalance being produced with a calibration imbalance vector V2. After this in a known manner the overall imbalance vector V3 present is measured in terms of its magnitude and direction and from the imbalance vector V1 and the overall imbalance vector V3 the calibration imbalance vector V2 is calculated from V2=V3−V1, the system comprising the balancing machine and the body of revolution being calibrated.

  • Patent number: 6189382
Abstract: A vibratory sensor, such as for example a hemispherical resonator gyroscope (HRG) operating in the whole angle mode, is disclosed with a self-calibrating function and an improved precision. Precision is improved using two multiplying low noise DACs to estimate the position of the standing wave relative to a fixed position on the HRG. During a first half cycle the DACs multiply a measured standing wave position by an estimated standing wave position, such that the product of the two signals approach zero. The small voltage output can then be amplified using high gain to minimize the noise in the standing wave angle prediction. Using an ADC, the amplified signal is converted and transmitted to a microprocessor for evaluation. In the second half cycle, the low noise multipliers are evaluated using a known reference signal, where the product of the known reference signal and the multipliers are evaluated against a predicted signal to determine multiplier drift.

  • Patent number: 6189383
Abstract: A method of determining the acoustic impedance of a fluid in a borehole, by gating a reflected acoustic signal into a plurality of time slots, and comparing received energies of the signal for the time slots to obtain a value indicative of the acoustic impedance of the fluid. The value may be normalized to yield the acoustic impedance of the fluid using the acoustic impedance of, e.g., water as a calibration point. The comparison is performed by comparing a ratio of an integration of a first ring down time slot and a second ring down time slot, to an integration of an internal reflection time slot. The acoustic pulse may be generated using a transducer immersed in an intermediate fluid contained within a chamber defined in part by a plate in contact with the borehole fluid and having a thickness such that a mechanical resonance frequency of the plate in a thickness mode is substantially equal to a resonance frequency of the transducer.

  • Patent number: 6189407
Abstract: A two-piece expanding lock control cable end fitting for connecting a co-axial cable assembly with a support structure. The first piece is a sleeve that is attached, typically by crimping, to the conduit member. The second part is a lock clip member. The lock clip member includes a base flange, a cylindrical portion and an inclined portion. During assembly the base flange on the clip member will contact the mating part and prevent the clip member from traveling through the mating part. The mating part could be a backing plate, a frame member, or brake lever component. When the clip member stops traveling through the mating part, the sleeve continues to move through the clip member. The end of the sleeve contacts the inclined portion of the clip member causing the clip member to expand. When the sleeve it is fully seated in the clip member, a locking feature on the clip member engages the sleeve to prevent removal of the sleeve from the clip member.
