  • Patent number: 6209359
Abstract: A loop manufacturing process which utilizes a gang of needles, each including a closing string and a hook, and at least one transverse gang of small strainers located on either side of a sheet in conventional fashion, together with a transverse gang of longitudinal lancets. The sheet is continually fed from the top to the bottom of a knitting machine to obtain a loop material forming one of two cooperating parts of an self-gripping strap. After the formation of at least a first loop on a lancet and before the formation of a second loop on the lancet, the lancet holding the first loop moves transversely in one direction and by a predetermined distance. After the formation of the second loop on this lancet, the lancet holding the first and second loop moves transversely by the same distance but in the opposite direction, before and for the formation of a third loop on this lancet. The cycle of transverse movement of the lancet in one direction and then the other is repeated every two loops.

  • Patent number: 6209361
Abstract: An improvement in a yarn-holding apparatus for a circular knitting machine which functions to hold a plurality of yarn ends in the ready position at the air shoe near the machine yarn feeds so that the held yarn ends can be selectively engaged by the yarn feeds and thereafter introduced to the needles of the machine for knitting. An air input station receives air from an airflow source and has a manifold into which the introduced air is directed. A number of air ports are connected with and extend from the manifold thus sending a number of airflow streams into the airflow passage where the yarns are introduced. The directed airflow streams converge to maintain the held yarns in a stationary and tangle-free condition and enable the positive engagement of the yarns by the yarn feeds.

  • Patent number: 6209363
Abstract: A method for facilitating in seaming closed an open end of a generally tubular structure is described. The method involves providing first and second handles extending from opposite sides of an open end of the tubular structure, extending the first and second handles in opposing directions to thereby flatten the tubular structure upon itself and align opposing faces of the tubular structure so that the open end terminates along a common edge. The open end can then be seamed by sewing or other securement methods, to thereby form a closed end on the tubular structure. The first and second handles can be integrally formed as a bridge extending across the open end of the tubular structure, and subsequently severed to form a free end on each of the handles. The tubular structure can be circular knit, with the bridge being formed during the knitting process through the formation of long floats extending a substantial distance around the circumference of the open end of the tubular structure.

  • Patent number: 6209385
Abstract: A computerized method and system are provided for determining air/fuel ratio of an engine's combustion process from its exhaust emissions wherein alternative methods for calculating the amount of water in the exhaust emissions are available according to the measurement situation and/or the preference of the user. The calculation types may include calculation types such as the Brettschneider/Spindt calculation type, the Simons calculation type or the no O2 calculation type. Pop-up menus on a computer monitor are used for selecting the basic calculation type. The algorithm of the present invention preferably uses a fixed point iteration wherein an initial value is assumed for oxygen gas which is then used to calculate water moles and then subsequently the water moles is used to calculate another oxygen value. This is repeated until the new value for oxygen gas is no longer significantly different than the old value for oxygen gas. This happens typically after just a few iterations.

  • Patent number: 6209388
Abstract: An apparatus and related method for measuring the properties and individual flow rates of a two-phase flow comprising a gas and a liquid is disclosed. This apparatus and related method also can determine whether the liquid is travelling in primarily a mist or stratified flow. More precisely, one embodiment of the disclosed invention uses measured parameters such as gain, standard deviation in upstream and downstream travel times for an ultrasonic signal, measured speed of sound, noise, signal quality, batch failure rate, and velocity profile to infer the amount of liquid in the gas flow, and in what form the liquid is travelling. For a horizontal two-phase flow, an internal measurement can be used as a dry gas reference, although the invention is also applicable to a vertical flow. For increased confidence, these determinations may be corroborated by the disclosed liquid level measurement device.

Abstract: Accelerometers frequently use piezoelectric elements which are subjected to compression or displacement, however rarely to bending, because asymmetries usually appear, which create signals from undesired influences as well. According to the invention this is avoided in a very symmetric construction with a number of mechanically biased bending elements (2) in the same plane, which are only supported at the ends and at the midpoints, where the electrical connections are also made.

Abstract: The invention concerns a membrane for a pressure sensor. The membrane has, on a flat central face (26), an annular attachment face (12), which is disposed concentric to the central face (26), and a non-flat connecting face (54), which links the central face (26) with the edge face (12). The connecting face (54) is formed from at least one annular step (36, 44, 52), which consists of one flat annular face (32, 40, 48) and one truncated-cone-shaped step face (30, 38, 46), which connects radially inward to the annular face. The annular faces (32, 40, 48) and the central face (26) lie in planes parallel to each other, whereby the heights (h1, h2, h3) of the step faces (30, 38, 46) measured perpendicular to the plane of the central face are very small in relationship to the width of the respective step. This stepped design of the membrane results in a high linearity of the characteristic of the membrane pressure sensor and at the same time to a steep slope of the characteristic in its linear region.

  • Patent number: 6209401
Abstract: Device for measuring tension force in web and wire without giving any permanent affect on the measured object. In goods transportation it is common to use webs to tie down the load to the load carrier, and it is important that the right pretension force is applied to achieve a safe transport. The device enables this force to be checked before and even during the transport. The device is a hand carried device that can be moved across the measured object from the side, perform the measurement after an activation arm has been pulled, and be removed after deactivation without having any remaining affect on the lashing. Technically, this is done when the activation forces the object to bend over a number of rolls. This bending calls for a force perpendicularly to the measured object that is registered, recalculated and displayed as the searched force in the object.
