  • Patent number: 6330894
Abstract: A jig having particularly advantageous application in the construction of custom spiral staircases. The jig for bending a wooden board comprises: a trunk; and, multiple arms each arm having an inner end portion releasably attached to the trunk and an outer arm portion adapted to removably attach the wooden board thereto. When the wooden board is attached to the outer end portions of the arms the wooden board will have bent to conform to a curve defined by the end portions of the arms as it extends up, and around the trunk. Most preferably the trunk and arms comprise cylindrical tubes. The arm portions which attach to the trunk comprise split cylinders which may be lockably squeezed over the trunk with a bolt. Each arm comprises an inner cylindrical tube which closely and lockingly slides within an outer cylindrical tube so that the outer end portion of the arm may be locked at a selected radius from the trunk so that the jig may be used to bend boards at varying radiuses.

  • Patent number: 6330909
Abstract: In a vehicle air-conditioning system, an evaporator is disposed in an air-conditioning case to form a bypass passage through which air bypasses the evaporator, and an opening degree of the bypass passage is adjusted by a bypass door. When a vehicle engine operates, the system performs a cold-storing mode where cold quantity stored in condensed water on the evaporator is increased. On the other hand, when operation of the vehicle engine is stopped, the system performs a cold-releasing mode where air passing through the evaporator is cooled by cold released from frozen condensed water. During the cold-storing mode and the cold-releasing mode, temperature of air blown into a passenger compartment can be adjusted by adjusting the opening degree of the bypass passage. Thus, in the vehicle air-conditioning system, cold-storing quantity in the evaporator can be improved while power-saving effect of the vehicle engine is improved.

  • Patent number: 6330914
Abstract: The invention is a method and apparatus for initiating an azimuth controlled vertical hydraulic fracture in unconsolidated and weakly cemented soils and sediments using active resistivity to monitor and control the fracture initiation and propagation. Separate or overlapping treatment walls and containment barriers can be created by controlling and monitoring the propagation of fractures in the subsurface. A fracture fluid is injected into a well bore to initiate and propagate a vertical azimuth controlled fracture. The fracture fluid is energized to conduct electrical current while the fracture propagates through the ground. A series of electrical resistivity monitors measure the electrical conductivity of the fracture fluid in real time against the background conductivity of the formation.

Abstract: A container for the noise-muffling accommodation of a unit to be installed in a vehicle, such as an electric motor, a pneumatic pump or the like, has two container parts. Each container part is formed by a foam part and is fitted together to form a closed housing. The housing is adapted to be clipped to a vehicle bodywork for assembly on neighbouring parts of the vehicle. A U-shaped holder is partially integrated into one container part. The U-shaped holder is foamed in place. The legs of the U-shaped holder each have a clipping member on mutually opposite wall parts of the container supporting it. The clipping members extend beyond the aperture edge of the container part to clip together the two container parts. A flange projects outwardly from the container walls to secure the container in a gap in the bodywork. Each flange, on its side remote from the respective clipping member, has at least one supporting shoulder projecting laterally outwardly from the container part.

The controller includes a microprocessor, and it determines appropriate safe operations of the scissor lift based on various sensed inputs, such as height of the platform and load on the platform. The scissor lift is operated by pushing either a drive select push button, a lift select push button, or a deck select push button. After the switch is selected, the operator has a predetermined amount of time to stroke the joystick in order to effect movement of the scissor lift.

  • Patent number: 6330934
Abstract: An improved system for changing the fluid of vehicular automatic transmissions and the like, which has the capability to provide a complete fluid exchange faster and with less usage of fresh fluid in a manner that is easier to operate. This is accomplished by the system's unique capability to extract used fluid and replace it with fresh fluid at a faster, balanced rate than before possible in prior art. This is accomplished by decreasing or removing restriction from the exhausting of the used fluid and introducing fresh fluid at more than one locus. The unique, novel capability of the invention to use a dual use pan access tube to combine a static change with a dynamic change, and to introduce fresh fluid into the transmission from two different loci instead of one as in all prior art, allows the fluid exchange to be completed in a shorter time with less use of fluid.

  • Patent number: 6330935
Abstract: The present invention relates to an elevator system for which maintenance is tailored for each of the individual hardware components of the elevator. A maintenance system groups together hardware components having approximately identical maintenance needs, and stores these groups along with the appropriate maintenance data for these groups in a storage area. The maintenance data stored in connection with each group includes maintenance time-points that indicate the times when the group of components should be maintained. The storage area of the maintenance system can be accessed and changed by remote devices. Components needing more maintenance are store in different groups from components needing less maintenance, thereby reducing unnecessary maintenance of elevator components.

Abstract: Elevator events and conditions are monitored so as to determine features which are notable with respect to service including repair and maintenance, a name label is stored chronologically in a log upon each occurrence of a notable feature. Attributes of the feature stored chronologically with the feature, may include the date and time, the duration of the feature or a preceding condition, the point of time in a run when the notable feature occurred, the direction of elevator car travel and the floor location of the elevator related to the notable feature. Separation markers are generated to separate notable features which relate to each other from those that do not, each marker having floor number, time and date stamps and the duration between the first feature related thereto and the last feature related thereto stored chronologically therewith. Features include door reversals, loss of non-door safeties, failure making door lock switches, door rebound, doors open too long, and doors open in flight.

  • Patent number: 6330939
Abstract: There is a large difference in frequency dependent, complex electrical permittivity between genuine and counterfeit documents, including paper currency. Genuine bills have a substantially different complex permittivity which is distinct from the permittivity of counterfeit bills. The invention broadly measures the complex permittivity, &egr;, of the ‘paper’ bills to determine if the bill(s) is genuine or counterfeit. In one aspect, the present invention comprises a device and method for determining the genuineness of a document by measuring the complex permittivity based on the frequency dependent dielectric properties of the document. The complex electric permittivity of a dielectric material is typically read by measuring complex impedance using a capacitor to sense material properties. The document may include an enhanced region comprising an additive that establishes a known permittivity in the enhanced region.

Abstract: A modular conveyor belt formed of rows of belt modules pivotally interlinked by transverse pivot rods and specially adapted for following a curved conveyor path. The modules include a top, product conveying surface and a bottom, sprocket-driven surface. The belt modules have a plurality of first link ends disposed in the direction of travel of the conveyor belt and a plurality of second link ends disposed in the opposite direction. Transverse holes in the link ends are aligned to accommodate a pivot rod. When the link ends of the consecutive rows of side by side modules are intercalated, the pivot rod serves as a hinge pin in a hinged joint between consecutive interlinked rows. To permit the belt to flex sidewise, the openings in the first link ends are slotted longitudinally in the direction of belt travel.
