Patent number: RE37548Abstract: There is disclosed a conversion for a clutch of a motor vehicle which uses a conventional Belleville spring to bias a pressure plate and clamp a clutch disc between the pressure plate and the flywheel of the vehicle. In this invention, the frictional linings of the conventional clutch are substituted by frictional linings which are preferably located at optimum geometric spacing, and which have from 30-70 percent less surface area for frictional engagement than that conventionally furnished with the clutch. The invention is particularly applicable to upgraded performance cars, e.g., the new line of SLP cars being introduced by some manufacturers.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 2000Date of Patent: February 19, 2002Inventor: Bill J. Hays
-
Patent number: RE37549Abstract: A vertical skein of “fibers”, opposed terminal portions of which are held in headers unconfined in a modular shell, is aerated with a gas-distribution means which produces a mass of bubbles serving the function of a scrub-brash for the outer surfaces of the fibers. The membrane device is surprisingly effective with relatively little cleansing gas, the specific flux through the membranes reaching an essentially constant relatively high value because the vertical deployment of fibers allows bubbles to rise upwards along the outer surfaces of the fibers. Further, bubbles flowing along the outer surfaces of the fibers make the fibers surprisingly resistant to being fouled by build-up of deposits of inanimate particles or microorganisms in the substrate provided that the length of each fiber is only slightly greater than the direct center-to-center distance between opposed faces of the headers, preferably in the range from at least 0.1% to about 5% greater.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1999Date of Patent: February 19, 2002Assignee: Zenon Environmental Inc.Inventors: Mailvaganam Mahendran, Carlos Fernando F. Rodrigues, Steven Kristian Pedersen

Patent number: RE37550Abstract: A solid waste material comminuting system having a electric motor for providing rotary motion, a pair of cutter stacks with cutter elements of one stack interleaved with cutter elements of the other, and gear means to transmit the rotary motion of the electric motor to counter-rotate cutter elements of one stack with cutter elements of the other. Each of the cutter stacks comprise a central shaft journaled for rotation and a bearing module at each end of the central shafts. Each bearing module comprises an end housing, and a pair of insertable preassembled bearing assemblies mountable in each of said end housings. One bearing assembly has a thru-hole for journaling a first shaft for rotation and a second bearing assembly has a thru-hole for journaling a second shaft for rotation. The housing has an inspection port at the top to allow for tightening of the cutter stack.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 1999Date of Patent: February 19, 2002Assignee: Disposable Waste Systems, Inc.Inventors: Joseph W. Patent number: RE37551Abstract: A display controller including a frequency discriminator for attaining modes of horizontal and vertical frequencies of video signals inputted thereto according to horizontal and vertical sync signals, a memory for setting therein a screen mode matching the input video signals according to the determined frequency modes, and a horizontal timing signal generator and a vertical timing signal generator capable of arbitrarily setting horizontal and vertical display positions of the video signals. Obtaining the horizontal and vertical frequencies of the video signals, the controller conducts a control operation to generate horizontal and vertical timing signals associated with the horizontal and vertical frequencies. Even when the number of dots of the LCD panel is different from the number of dots supplied during a video display period from the input video signals, the resultant image can be presented in the central screen portion of the LCD panel.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1999Date of Patent: February 19, 2002Assignee: NEC CorporationInventor: Tatsuya Shiki

Patent number: RE37552Abstract: A system and method for efficiently charging and discharging a capacitive load from a single voltage source. The system includes a first switch for selectively connecting the voltage source to the load and a second switch for selectively providing a short across the load as may be common in the art. A particularly novel aspect of the invention resides in the provision of plural capacitive elements and a switching mechanism for selectively connecting each of the capacitive elements to the load whereby the load is gradually charged or discharged. In the illustrative embodiment, the switching mechanism includes a set of switches for selectively connecting each of the capacitive elements to the capacitive load and a switch control mechanism for selectively activating the switches.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1997Date of Patent: February 19, 2002Assignee: University of Southern CaliforniaInventors: Lars Svensson, William C. -
Patent number: RE37553Abstract: A serial, dual piston high pressure fluid pumping system that overcomes the difficulties of gas in the fluid stream without the need for added mechanical valves or fluid paths. A bubble detection and recovery mechanism monitors compression and decompression volumes of the serially configured dual pump head pump, and the overall system delivery pressure. Bubble detection is effected by sensing a ratio of compression to decompression volume and determining if the ratio exceeds an empirical threshold that suggests the ratio of gas-to-liquid content of eluent or fluid in the system is beyond the pump's ability to accurately meter a solvent mixture. The magnitude of the ratio of compression to decompression volume indicates that either the intake stroke has a bubble or that the eluent has a higher-than-normal gas content.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 1999Date of Patent: February 19, 2002Assignee: Waters Investments LimitedInventors: Steven J. Ciavarini, Robert J. Dumas

Patent number: RE37554Abstract: The optoelectronic semiconductor component has an optoelectronic semiconductor chip disposed on a chip carrier with an approximately planar chip carrier surface. The semiconductor chip is fastened with predetermined alignment of its optical axis. A plastic base part supports the chip carrier. The semiconductor chip is electrically conductively connected to at least two electrode terminals routed through the base part, and a lens is disposed above the semiconductor chip on top of the base part. The lens is formed with an independently configured cap produced from plastic material. The cap is mechanically form-locked to a support of the base part. When the cap is placed onto the base part, a holder of the cap and the support engage with one another. The holder and the support are configured such that when the cap is placed onto the base part, the two parts are automatically positioned with respect to one another in such a way that the optical axes of the lens and of the semiconductor chip coincide.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2000Date of Patent: February 19, 2002Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Herbert Brunner, Heinz Haas, Günter Waitl
