Abstract: A toilet seat construction includes a seat member with an upper major surface for holding a stack of pliable seat sheets thereon. A retaining member has a rear portion mounted pivotally and turnable relative to the seat member so as to be superimposed upon the seat member. The retaining member has an opening bordered by two lateral retaining portions. When the retaining member is superimposed upon the seat member, the lateral retaining portions are superimposed upon lateral holding areas of the upper major surface of the seat member, and thus a body contact area of the stack of the pliable seat sheets is urged to protrude out of the opening for contacting the body of the user.

Abstract: Disclosed are novel methods and compositions for rapid and highly efficient nucleic acid sequencing based upon hybridization with two sets of small oligonucleotide probes of known sequences. Extremely large nucleic acid molecules, including chromosomes and non-amplified RNA, may be sequenced without prior cloning or subcloning steps. The methods of the invention also solve various current problems associated with sequencing technology such as, for example, high noise to signal ratios and difficult discrimination, attaching many nucleic acid fragments to a surface, preparing many, longer or more complex probes and labelling more species.

Abstract: A flapper for a flush valve includes a relatively rigid backing plate and a relatively flexible valve seal. The backing plate includes structure for preventing the seal from being urged into sealing engagement with the backing plate, thereby preventing an air-filled cavity from forming between the seal and the lower surface of the backing plate. The preventing structure may include at least one pair of oppositely spaced ridges extending a first predetermined distance from the lower surface of the backing plate and forming a channel therebetween. The preventing structure may alternately include at least one radially extending channel formed in the backing plate and having a predetermined depth.

Abstract: A flapper valve assembly for regulating the passage of water from a toilet tank is provided with a structure to reduce overflow risk. There is a yoke pivotally disposed in the tank and supporting a flapper seal that can be seated on and unseated from the flush opening. A flapper arm has a first segment coupled to the yoke along a pivot axis and a second segment extending away from the pivot axis toward the flapper seal. The flapper arm is configured such that it delays seating of the flapper seal when the water in the tank is above a predetermined level and assists seating of the flapper seal when the water is below a designated level.

Abstract: An embodiment provides a toilet having a toilet pan 11, an outlet pipe 78 for the contents of the pan, a closeable lid 21 on the pan forming with the pan a waste receptacle chamber, a seal 22 between the lid 21 and the pan 11, means 12 for introducing water into the chamber to wash the internal surface of the pan, and means 2 for subsequently increasing the air pressure in the chamber to force the contents of the pan through the outlet pipe.

Abstract: A bath tub spa is provided that has a motor housing with a motor for driving a pump. The pump has an input opening and an output opening sealed about the pump such fluid is drawn through said input opening and expelled through the output opening. The spa also has a nozzle removably sealed to said output opening, and a connector for connecting the motor housing to the bath tub such that the input opening is maintained at least partially below a level of fluid and at least a portion of the nozzle is maintained below the level of the fluid. The motor housing is rotatable about a first axis, the output opening is rotatable about a second axis, and the nozzle is rotatable about a third axis.

Abstract: A central steel column serves as a core module for a portable washstand. The column extends upwardly from a horizontal foot, and has foot pumps which communicate with a water intake tube and with water spouts. In addition, the central column has fasteners, such as adjustable bands, for connecting fresh and waste water receptacles to the column. A yoke may have pins which extend into the rims of the receptacles to connect them to the column. The receptacles may be conventional cylindrical drums, which support a molded plastic countertop with washbasins positioned beneath the spouts. For decorative purposes, a molded front panel extends between the countertop and the base, and together with a sheet rear panel encloses the two drums. Paper towel and soap dispensers may be connected to the central column.

The backsplash made be made of any number of materials commonly known in the art, such as wood, plastic, porcelain, marble or granite. The backsplash may be finished in any number of colors, textures, or finishes to complement the sink, and may include a fanciful top edge, or integrated soap dish, cup or toothbrush holder, and mirror.

Abstract: A convertible furniture unit has a base and a bed platform pivotally connected to the base for angular displacement about a first axis from an upright stowed position with respect to the base, to a substantially horizontal use position. The platform has an upper surface in the use position that is adapted to support a mattress, and an opposite surface. A table panel has a first end that is pivotally mounted to the opposite surface of the platform for relative displacement between the platform and the panel about a second axis which is spaced from the first axis so that the panel is in a support position when the platform is in the use position, and the panel is in a working position when the platform is in the stowed position. An extension or foot is pivotally connected to the table panel at a location that is spaced from the first end of the panel, for rotation of the extension or foot between an upper position for propping the panel in its working position, and a lower position.

Abstract: An accident and emergency trolley supports and transports a patient, and includes a surface overlying an upper frame which is supported on a base frame in order to be raised and lowered relative to the base frame. The upper frame is mounted at its periphery on opposed radius arms connected to respective first and second actuators, which are operated by foot-operated pedals. The pedals are disposed on one or either side of the trolley such that operation of any single pedal enables the trolley to be raised at either end or both ends simultaneously. The opposed radius arms provide an uninterrupted window under the trolley allowing for X-ray/imaging.

The elongate members extend in a generally parallel direction to each other and each is orientated generally perpendicular to the rod. A second portion for positioning between a mattress and box spring includes a bar having a first end and a second end. Each of a pair of pole members is integrally coupled to and extends away from one of the first and second ends of the bar. The pole members extend in a generally parallel direction to each other and each is orientated generally perpendicular to the bar. Each of the pole members has a free end hingedly coupled to one of the elongate members.

A preferred embodiment of the bridge comprises a deck, a wishbone arch section, including a single topmost middle portion branching transversely into two support legs on either longitudinal side of the topmost middle portion and a set of connectors extending from the wishbone arch to the deck and supporting the deck. Abstract: A bridge deck construction form is provided capable of being used in a series of interlocking forms. The system uses an interlocking grid of plastic forms upon which the concrete is poured. The forms have male and female interlocking connectors around their perimeter to allow the forms to lock together end to end and side to side. The top surface of the form is smooth, and a series of hand grip indentations and fork lift fork receiving recess indentations are provided about the vertical perimeter apron to allow for easy handling and manipulation of the forms, whether by hand or by fork-lift, during placement, removal, shipping, storage, transport, or the like.

Abstract: A system for cleaning first and second surfaces of a moving web substrate. First and second turret subsystems are disposed sequentially along the web path. Each turret is rotatable about an axis transverse to the direction of web conveyance but there is no axial cross-shaft. Each turret includes at least two contact cleaning rollers spaced apart in the turret on opposite sides of the turret axis. The web path proceeds through each pair of rollers such that in each turret the first roller of the pair is adjacent a first surface of the web and the second roller of the pair is adjacent a second surface of the web. When the turrets are rotated to a null position, none of the rollers is in contact with the web. When the turrets are rotated to a web cleaning position, the web is engaged with the rollers on both sides of the web and follows a serpentine path through the turrets.

Each of the groups of bundles of bristles comprises a plurality of rows and a plurality of columns of bristle bundles, where the rows aligned parallel to the longitudinal axis of the brush head portion, and the columns are aligned perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the brush head portion.

Abstract: A brush handle is disclosed having a core member which is surrounded by a layer of compressible and resilient gripping material of a non-slip nature, the layer of gripping material closely conforming to the contour of the brush handle and being mechanically interlocked to the handle by at least one projection which is integral with the core member and extend into the layer of gripping material, and also at least partially bonded one to the other by heat and or chemical processes. A brush having the above described handle sealingly secured to a brush head utilizing the layer of gripping material and a method of manufacturing a brush handle are also disclosed.

Abstract: An upright vacuum cleaner includes an upright housing section and a nozzle section. A cyclonic airflow dirt and dust separating chamber is defined in said upright housing section. A suction source pulls air and entrained dirt, dust, and other contaminants through a main suction opening formed in the underside of the nozzle and into the cyclonic airflow chamber. The cyclonic airflow chamber causes the suction airstream to travel in a cyclonic path such that the entrained contaminants are separated therefrom and deposited into a dirt container that defines the chamber. A main filter element filters residual contaminants from the suction airstream between the chamber and the suction source. The main filter element is preferably made from high-density polyethylene porous filter media.

Abstract: A removable suction nozzle inlet adapter is taught for converting the suction inlet of a vacuuming nozzle from a straight line inlet to one having either a convex or concave suction inlet whereby curved carpet and/or upholstery surfaces may be vacuumed. The adapters are particularly useful for use with hand held hot water extractor nozzles upon the curved carpet surface between the step and risers of carpeted stairs and/or the curved carpet transition from the riser to the horizontal step. The grip is back and forth sliably fitted on the connecting section. A locating member is disposed between the connecting section and the grip. When the grip is moved forward or rearward to a certain position, the locating member fixedly locates the grip on the connecting section. The grip can be moved rearward and the connecting section can be pivotally rotated by a certain angle for a user to easily hold the grip. Alternatively, the grip can be moved forward to shorten the length of the screwdriver.

The impact plates form an intersection line with a ramp located oppositely to the baffle plate. On the impact plate from any optional point of the intersection line, a decline is defined to the exit-opening of the funnel.

Abstract: An improved cable tie apparatus includes a flexible strap and a locking head. The flexible strap has a series of spaced apertures formed therein. A first group of apertures extending from one end and extending over at least half of the strap, the first group serving to allow for adjustably securing the strap over a cable or other object to be bundled. A second group of apertures extends from an opposing end of said strap, two of the apertures may be used in combination with the locking head to secure a portion of the strap about one loop of a cable to be bundled. The locking head has a central post terminating at opposing ends with radially extending, axially aligned discs sized for locking engagement with the apertures. A third axially aligned disc positioned intermediately along the axis of the post and also radially extending therefrom separates the opposing end discs so that apertures on either end of the strap may be selectively and discretely engaged and disengaged from said discs.

Abstract: For inserting a dividing cord loop into the opened shed warp on a sectional warping machine, a dividing device has at its disposal an introduction element (28) with a first, preferably movable guide arm (26) and a second, preferably stationary guide arm (27). The free ends (29, 31) of the two guide arms may preferably be led together in a pincer-like movement. The guide arms are preferably designed as tubes which in the led-together condition form a flow channel. With the help of an air conveyor (35), from a bobbin chamber (28) a dividing cord may be drawn off and as a loop be layed around a divided shed warp lying between the two guide arms and by way of a knotting means be connected to a cord loop. The connected cord loop is thereafter by way of a suction device or a blower device positioned and tensioned in a manner such that the cord loop bears at least on one side on the divided shed warp or on the warp web.

Abstract: A process for combining single color feed yarns, either dyed or melt pigmented, without twisting or heat-setting, to form an apparent space-dyed yarn product. The process includes the sequential steps of individually and simultaneously drawing two or more pre-spun, pre-colored singles yarns, at least one of which is differentially colored with respect to the other yarns; individually and simultaneously texturing the two or more yarns; individually and simultaneously entangling the two or more textured yarns in a first air-jet entangling process to form respective two or more entangle-sequenced yarns each having sequences of entangled and unentangled fibers; together air-jet entangling the two or more sequences of entangled and unentangled fiber yarns in a second air-jet entangling process to form a final apparent space-dyed yarn; and winding up the final apparent space-dyed yarn.
