Abstract: A method of assembling a catalytic converter comprising the steps of: (1) providing a metal shell exhibiting a predetermined shape that substantially matches the shape of the ceramic substrate; (2) inserting into the metal shell a sufficient amount of a resilient supporting mat material to form a encircling mat layer; (3) compressing the encircling mat layer to an initial gap bulk density, the initial gap bulk density being higher than the final gap bulk density; (4) releasing the compression-on the mat layer and prior to the mat layer reaching its final gap bulk density, inserting at least a portion of the substrate into the encircling mat layered metal shell and then allowing the mat layer to further release until the mat layer is compressed against the ceramic substrate at the final predetermined gap bulk density.

Abstract: A method of fabricating a printhead chip for an ink jet printhead includes forming a drive circuitry layer on a wafer substrate. A first sacrificial layer is deposited on the drive circuitry layer. The first sacrificial layer is etched to form a deposit area for an actuator layer. Actuator material is deposited on the first sacrificial layer to form the actuator layer. The actuator layer is etched to define an actuator and a first part of nozzle chamber walls of each of a plurality of nozzle assemblies. The first sacrificial layer is etched to release each actuator and each first part of the nozzle chamber walls. At least one of the wafer substrate and the first sacrificial layer is etched to define a plurality of ink inlets, so that each ink inlet is in fluid communication with a respective nozzle chamber.

Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a method for manufacturing ink jet recording heads by simple and inexpensive means. In order to realize this object, the present invention forms thin film piezoelectric elements using the so-called transfer method, and joining these to a pressure chamber plate. First, a forming plate 8 is prepared beforehand, provided with concavities 82 corresponding to the shapes of thin film piezoelectric elements 5, and upper electrodes 4 and a piezoelectric film 3 are formed as films inside the concavities 82. Then either a lower electrode or a vibration plate 2 is formed so as to cover the piezoelectric film 3, and the thin film piezoelectric elements 5 are fabricated. A substrate 1 constituting a pressure chamber plate is joined to the thin film piezoelectric elements 5, and the thin film piezoelectric elements 5 are removed from the forming plate 8.

Abstract: An automotive hub assembly, which carries a brake disk, has a hub provided with a spindle which rotates in a housing on a double row antifriction bearing having its raceways oriented obliquely to the axis of rotation so that the bearing accommodates both radial and axial loads. The bearing is set to a condition of preload so no free motion exists in it. The hub also has a flange at one end of its spindle, and the flange is machined on its face that is presented away from the housing to provide a machined mounting surface against which the brake disk is installed. The machining occurs after the hub assembly is assembled. To this end, the housing of the hub assembly is held fast while the hub is rotated on the bearing. With the hub rotating, a cutting tool is moved across the face of the flange, and it produces the machined mounting surface which is perpendicular to the axis of the bearing. The machined mounting surface has essentially no runout, so that the brake disk acquires no runout from the hub assembly.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a wet shaving system having an electronic indicator for indicating when the blades are becoming dull and in need of replacement. As razor blades dull, the user must exert greater force during shaving to achieve a satisfactory shave. Upon exertion of this extra force, a piston which is adjacent to the blades moves away from the blades in response to the increased forces encountered by the blades during shaving. Upon moving a sufficient distance, the piston pushes into an electronic device, such as a potentiometer, which initiates a signal processing circuit which in turn activates an indicator, such as a light-emitting diode. The activation of the indicator is a signal to the user to replace the blades.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the production of fitted footwear, in particular, fitted shoes, by using a pre-prepared sole (1), a pre-formed strip (6) and an insert (5). The construction takes place on the foot of the eventual shoe-wearer, whereby a pre-prepared sole (1), corresponding to the dimensions of said shoe-wearers foot is searched out. An insert (5) is applied to the sole (1) and the precise fit of the sole (1) and insert checked on the foot. A pre-formed strip (6) is placed over the foot of the eventual shoe-wearer and fitted to the pre-prepared sole (1) The invention further relates to footwear prepared according to said method.

Abstract: A tunnel excavating machine is disclosed. An excavating machine body can be moved forward by shield jacks. A rotatable cutter head is mounted in a front portion of the excavating machine body. An erector device for assembling segments in a ring form is mounted in a rear portion of the excavating machine body. A rest extends rearward from the rear portion of the excavating machine body. A shape retainer for making pressurized contact with inner peripheral surfaces of the assembled segments to retain the segments in a predetermined shape is supported on the rest so as to be movable along a fore-and-aft direction. Also, a revolving frame is located between the erector device and the shape retainer, and supported on the rest so as to be movable along the fore-and-aft direction such that the revolving frame does not interfere with the erector device and the shape retainer. A cage is supported on the revolving frame so as to be revolvable in a circumferential direction of an existing tunnel.

Abstract: A vacuum boring and mud recovery method comprising a vacuum container, a vacuum producing device to create a vacuum within said container, a conduit to vacuum solid particles and liquids into the vacuum container and a dispensing device to dispense the liquid or solid particles from the vacuum container without eliminating the vacuum environment within the vacuum container. Vacuum container contents are stored within the container while simultaneously dispensing the solid particles and or liquids. The vacuum container method may also have a separating device disposed within it to separate solids and liquids by category. The vacuum container method is a continuous operation vacuum container which can simultaneously fill, store and dispense solid particles and liquids with the added ability to simultaneously separate the solids and or liquids before they are dispensed from the vacuum container. This is accomplished without eliminating the vacuum environment within the vacuum container.
