Publication number: 20030000351Abstract: An interference fit screw driver has a polygonal driving surface to impart torque to a corresponding surface in a screw. The end of the polygonal driving surface has a frusto-conical shaped gripping member which fits into an aperture in the screw to create a friction fit between the screw and screw driver. This allows the screw to be attached to the screw driver to facilitate installation of the screw. The friction fit is tight enough to hold the screw to the driver, yet allows the driver to be easily disengaged from the screw by pulling the driver away from the screw once the screw is lodged in place. The interference fit screw driver is particularly useful in turning bone screws into the spine of a patient during orthopedic surgery.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 28, 2001Publication date: January 2, 2003Applicant: Ortho Development CorporationInventor: David T. Publication number: 20030000355Abstract: A tool operates with a guide system to identify the orientation of a tool on a work piece. In one implementation, the tool identifies its orientation with respect to a guide signal supplied by the guide system. In an alternate embodiment, the tool determines its absolute orientation, such as a (x, y) coordinate. The tool includes an action component adapted to alter the work piece, such as a cutting head in a router. A guide detector in the tool detects a position of a guide signal from the guide system. A location detector in the tool receives the position data and employs it to determine the tool's orientation. Based on the detected orientation, the tool decides whether any tool adjustments are necessary. Examples of tool adjustments include the following: adjusting the position of the action component, enabling or disabling the action component, and providing operating indicators to direct a tool operator's use of the tool.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 22, 2002Publication date: January 2, 2003Inventors: Andrew G. Publication number: 20030000356Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for oxygen cutting pieces of steel, in which a cutter member (5) is positioned above a top face of the piece to be cut, and trimmer and spray members (10, 11) are positioned beneath the piece to be cut, said members being carried by a support blade which passes through the cut slot. According to the invention, at least one pressurized fluid (22) is projected directly into the cut slot (1.3) and into the portion thereof that lies between the cutting front and the blade-shaped support of the cutter and spray members, said jet forming a barrier protecting said blade-shaped support against particle projections during forward advance of the support along the cut slot (1.3). This eliminates the risk of forward advance of the blade-shaped support in the cut slot encountering any obstacles, thereby making it possible to implement cutting speeds that are very high.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 26, 2002Publication date: January 2, 2003Inventors: Prioretti Guy, Prioretti Veronique, Prioretti-Hacking Francoise, Prioretti Jen-Michel

Publication number: 20030000357Abstract: There is disclosed a cut line forming method including: using a cutter roll (1) having cutting blades (2) protruded on its outer circumference and an anvil roll (10) for receiving the cutting blades; feeding a sheet (20) into the clearance between the cutter roll and the anvil roll; and turning the rolls individually to form cut lines (21) in the sheet. The cutting blades (2) of the cutter roll (10) are formed into a shape of letter “V”. The anvil roll has receiving faces (11) of a predetermined width (w) formed at an interval in a roll axis direction. The cutter roll (1) is turned to direct the crests of the V-shape of the cutting blades forward of the turning direction thereby to advance cuts from the side of the crests of the V-shape so that cut lines corresponding to the width size of the receiving faces may be intermittently formed in the sheet along the V-shape.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 24, 2002Publication date: January 2, 2003Inventor: Yoshinori Tanaka

Publication number: 20030000358Abstract: A adjustable shuttle stop apparatus for use in controlling feeding of material to a machining operation on a machine tool, such as a band saw. The apparatus comprises a feed conveyor, a band saw adjacent to the feed conveyor, a shuttle vise movably disposed on the feed conveyor, and an adjustable stop on the feed conveyor for adjusting a distance between the stop and the shuttle vise and for stopping the shuttle vise at the cutting position. The adjustable stop compensates for undesired movement of the shuttle vise caused by clamping the workpiece such that the distance between the stop and the shuttle vise remains substantially constant. This allows for a consistent cut length of the workpiece on subsequent cutting cycles. Different embodiments of the adjustable stop are disclosed along with a method of use of the apparatus.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 21, 2001Publication date: January 2, 2003Inventors: Gerald R. Publication number: 20030000359Abstract: A table saw includes a work support table that defines a blade slot therethrough and at least one guide groove oriented generally parallel to the slot. A pair of trunnions are attached to the lower surface of the work support table, with at least one of the trunnions defining an adjustment opening having opposing sides. A cradle assembly has a blade mounted therein driven by a motor, and it is supported by the trunnions such that at least a portion of the blade extends through the slot in the work support surface. To provide adjustment of the blade heel, an adjustment member is received by the adjustment opening in the trunnion and is rotatably attached to the lower surface of the work support table. Rotation of the adjustment member causes the adjustment member to contact one of the opposing sides of the adjustment opening, thus moving the trunnion to adjust the position of the blade relative to the guide groove.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2001Publication date: January 2, 2003Inventors: Curtis J.
