  • Patent number: 6543693
Abstract: A scanning device incorporates a vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL). The laser diode may be mounted directly on an Si substrate which is adapted for movement to produce a scan pattern. A collimating lens may be directly mounted on the emitting surface of the laser. A plurality of lasers may be mounted on the substrate and operated in sequence without movement of the substrate to produce the effect of a scan. A single, variable-focal length lens is employed to focus each beam of the VCSEL at a different distance. The scanning device emits visible or invisible light towards a target such as a bar code and a detector (mounted on the same or an adjacent substrate) senses the light reflected by the target to produce data which is decoded for further processing. A VCSEL uses low current and emits light from a relatively large area so that a relatively large amount of light is emitted for relatively small heat generation.

  • Patent number: 6543698
Abstract: The need to maintain the quality of air in a home has become more of a problem in new high efficiency tight houses so that governmental regulations are being proposed for a minimum change of fresh air. If too much cold outside fresh air is introduced into such homes at a single source, the room with the fresh air is usually too cold and/or unbalanced. The present invention avoids cooling any one room while maintaining heat efficiency. When the home has a gas fireplace, the exhaust gases are preferably directed through an air-to-air cross flow heat exchanger which preheats the quality air passing into a forced air furnace system. In modified embodiments of the present invention, make-up quality air is mixed with the room air and heated in the heat exchanger of the fireplace. The preheated room air from the fireplace is preferably connected to the supply/return of a forced air furnace system and distributed to all rooms to provide uniform heating.

  • Patent number: 6543703
Abstract: A non-clog actuator assembly having a flexible face member that flexes away from first and second positive shutoff mating surfaces when product under pressure flows into contact with the flexible face member. The flexible face member then resiliently springs back into abutting, sealing contact with these shutoff mating surfaces. Preferably, the device flexes away from the two shutoff mating surfaces at a predetermined minimum pressure, such as 55 psig, and then flexes back into sealing contact when the product pressure drops below this minimum pressure, thereby controlling the dispensing of the product with a positive shut off (i.e., the product is dispensed in a fairly constant pattern and then shut off rather than being very strong at the beginning of the spraying process and then dribbling out at the end or under low pressure operations).

  • Patent number: 6543730
Abstract: The pneumatic structural component includes an essentially cylindrical airtight hollow body with radius rh and length rh and two caps, made from a flexible, but low-stretch, preferably textile material. The hollow body on its side exposed to the loading carries a pressure rod of length Lh, which is secured against sideways buckling and, at both its ends, carries a node. At least one pair of tension elements is joined to the pressure rod in the nodes. Tension elements run screw-shaped and contra-rotating in a whole number of circuits around the hollow body and intersect each other at positions, which lie on a surface line opposite to the pressure rod. The pressure rod, the surface line and the longitudinal axis of the hollow body, referenced A define a plane E in which the engaging loads and forces lie.

  • Patent number: 6543732
Abstract: A rack includes a base, a supporting rod, and a hanging member. The base has opposing connecting parts on two opposing ends. The middle portions of the connecting parts define an upright cylindrical holding space in between. The supporting rod is passed into the upright holding space, and pivoted to the connecting parts at a lower end so that the supporting rod can be pivoted between a laid down position and an upright in-use position. The hanging member includes a ring-shaped supporting part pivoted to the top of the supporting rod such that it can be disposed perpendicular to the supporting rod for a bag to be hung on. The supporting rod is provided like a telescope so that the height of the hanging member can be changed to be suitable for bags of different sizes.

  • Patent number: 6543734
Abstract: A flat panel display apparatus with a mounting apparatus includes a display screen, a handle member, a supporting member and a stand member. The handle member is disposed at the edge or the rear of the display screen. The supporting member is pivotally secured to the handle member. The supporting member has a first arm portion and a second arm portion where an obtuse angle is formed between the first arm portion and the second arm portion. The stand member is disposed at an end of the second arm portion to provide friction between the second arm portion and contacted surface thereon and prevent the second arm portion from escaping as the display screen is in an upright position.

  • Patent number: 6543736
Abstract: The quick release canister supporting apparatus of the present invention includes a mounting bracket mountable to a rigid support, a rigid, canister retaining frame releasably mountable into mating engagement with the mounting bracket, and at least one latch cooperating between the mounting bracket and the retaining frame for the releasable mounting into mating engagement of the retaining frame with the mounting bracket. The latch may be mounted to the mounting bracket or to the retaining frame. A manually operable release actuator cooperates with the latch for selective actuation of the latch to release the retaining frame from the mounting bracket. The retaining frame defines a rigid cavity having an opening for receiving a gas canister substantially completely into the cavity. The retaining frame includes at least one selectively releasable canister rotation restraint for inhibiting rotation and sliding of the canister about and along its longitudinal axis.

  • Patent number: 6543738
Abstract: A shock mount structure is shown that has one position wherein shock mount members positioned at the corners of the device are contained within the length, width, and height of the form factor with which the device complies and a second position wherein the elastomeric corner members violate the form factor, but are positioned to impact a planar surface, toward which the device is dropped, before any portion of the device, irrespective of the attitude of the device as it approaches the planar surface. To assure protection, the elastomeric corner shock mount elements are urged toward the second position by integral springs and are manually movable to the first position by overcoming the biasing force of the springs.
