  • Patent number: 6565308
Abstract: A Bulk Mail Container (BMC) unloader uses a simple crossed four bar-linkage to move a predetermined point on a BMC unloader in a substantially straight line while the overall BMC unloader rotates about that predetermined point so as to upend the BMC container. This takes advantage of the crossed four-bar's substantially straight-line motion over a limited range of its motion, as well as the rotational motion of the particular unloader link disclosed herein. This is advantageous for unloading. In use, a BMC container is simply rolled into the BMC unloader, and the entire combination of the BMC container and BMC unloader is then actuated to produce substantially straight line motion along a suitably selected “center” point of the BMC unloader while the overall combination rotates about the center point so as to upend the BMC for unloading.

  • Patent number: 6565309
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to enable the orientations of chip components accommodated in groove portions of an index table to be assuredly uniformized. When a polarity judgment device finds that the orientation of the chip component accommodated in the groove portion of the index table is opposite, the polarity inversion apparatus according to the present invention moves the chip component to the component accommodating inversion portion by using compressed air and the intake air from air inlet/outlet ports. Since the bottom surface of the inlet of the inversion portion is set so as to be lower than the base surface under the index table and the width of the inlet of the inversion portion is set so as to be wider than the width of the groove portion, the chip component can move to the inversion portion without getting stuck in the vicinity of the boundary.

  • Patent number: 6565310
Abstract: A steam-powered rotary engine is provided in which a rotor arm assembly and an outer ring are positioned such that steam ejected from outlets at the two ends of the rotor arm assembly will impact at a substantially right angle onto steps or depressions formed on the inner portion of the outer ring. Both the rotor arm assembly and the outer ring are mounted or supported in a freely rotatable manner on a housing or frame. The ejection of the steam from the rotor arm causes the rotor arm to rotate in a direction opposite the direction of travel of the exiting steam. The reaction of the steam impacting the steps causes the outer ring to rotate in a direction opposite the direction of rotation of the rotor arm. Power take-off devices are provided to use the rotational movement of the rotor arm and the outer ring to generate electricity.

  • Patent number: 6565312
Abstract: A cooled turbine blade (either a rotor blade or a stationary vane) comprises a blade structural member whose primary function is to withstand the various loads exerted on the blade and maintain structural integrity of the blade, and a heat-transfer sheath that surrounds the outer surface of the structural member. A plurality of coolant passages are formed between the structural member and the heat-transfer sheath. Thus, when coolant is passed through the coolant passages, the heat transferred to the sheath from the hot gases passing through the turbine is in turn transferred to the coolant, which is then removed from the blade, thereby cooling the blade.

  • Patent number: 6565317
Abstract: A platelike projecting component portion of a component used in gas turbines or other similar applications includes a surface upon which hot gas acts and cooling bores through which a cooling medium is capable of flowing. Effective cooling is achieved by providing at least one plenum assigned solely to the component portion. The plenum is arranged so as to be directly adjacent to the surface upon which hot gas acts and through which the cooling medium is capable of flowing to provide convective heat transfer. The cooling bores are designed as blow-out orifices which emanate from the plenum and issue the cooling medium onto the surface upon which hot gas acts, thereby forming a cooling film.

  • Patent number: 6565321
Abstract: A vortex generating apparatus has the capability of attracting and removably adhering one or more solid objects. The apparatus comprises an impeller housed within a shell. The vortex attractor generates a vortical fluid flow generally in the form of a helical or spiral shaped flow. The fluid flow creates a low pressure region extending from the impeller end of the device. This low pressure region is contained by the walls of the fluid flow, thus directing the attractive forces toward a surface and minimizing effects of ambient fluid on the system. When the surface is part of a stationary object, wall, floor or ceiling, the vortex attractor may move toward and adhere to the surface. When the surface is part of a movable object, the vortex attractor may attract the object and maintain the attracted position.

The connecting element (40) also makes possible, through its radial resiliency, a tolerance equalization between the drive shaft (22) and the gear (16) in a radial direction.

Abstract: An apparatus for forming metal spheres includes a droplet generator, a buffering chamber, and a cooling drum. The droplet generator generates a droplet from a molten metal mass. The buffering chamber receives the droplet from the droplet generator, and diminishes internal kinetic energy of the droplet without solidifying the droplet. The cooling drum receives the droplet from the buffering chamber, and cools the droplet to the extent that the droplet solidifies into a metal sphere. The apparatus can further include a collector arrangement that receives the metal spheres from the cooling drum and makes the metal spheres available for collection.

  • Patent number: 6565343
Abstract: Apparatus for producing plastic film, of the type in which molten plastic is extruded through an annular die to form a tubular bubble which is expanded by air blown into the bubble, and a collapsing frame for forming the bubble into a flat tube prior to passing the tube through a nip formed between rollers, in which opposed, converging reaches of endless belts are used for the collapsing. The belts have their upstream ends held by a pair of first rollers spaced apart on opposite sides of the bubble, and have their downstream ends held by a pair of nip rollers which hold the belts together to form a nip for the collapsed tube. Pulleys and a belt, or gears, are provided which rotatably interconnect the pinch rollers and ensure that the belts entering the nip travel at the same surface speed.

  • Patent number: 6565344
Abstract: A melt spinning apparatus including a spinpack with a die tip block having a recess with a converging portion, such as an angled trough, which terminates in a row of filament discharge outlets. The recess selectively receives a configuration insert, such as a side-by-side insert or a sheath-core insert, that separates the converging portion of the recess into two sheets of liquid that combine at the filament discharge outlets. The spinpack may be configured by inserting either of the inserts to produce filaments having different cross sectional configurations of two different materials. Separation of the two liquids prevents premature interaction between the two liquid flows which minimizes instabilities between the liquid flow interface. The minimization of these instabilities can result in less formation of shot and improve other significant finished product properties. In addition, each type of liquid material may be maintained at an optimum temperature for proper extrusion.

Abstract: An extruder die head comprises an internal cylindrical mandrel and a shell, which encloses said mandrel concentrically. Between said mandrel and shell an annular channel is formed that empties into the die slit. A polymer melt is fed through a line to the annular channel. To prevent the polymer melt in the area of the start of the annular channel from penetrating into a slit that forms between the mandrel and the shell due to heat expansion, there is between both mandrel and shell a ring with such a coefficient of thermal expansion that when heated up due to the polymer melt said ring seals the slit between the shell and the mandrel.
