Abstract: A device for monitoring the status or condition of a filter assembly for an imaging device which employs an optical sensing device to monitor a concentration of toner particles. In one embodiment, the optical sensing device monitors a concentration of toner particles captured in a filter assembly within an electrostatic imaging device. The optical sensing device is connected to an imaging device controller. An output connected to the controller displays data representative of a degree to which the filter element is clogged by toner particulate.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus having a uniform nip between a photosensitive body and a transfer body. The image forming apparatus has a photosensitive unit on which an electrostatic latent image is formed, a developer feed unit to feed a developer onto the electrostatic latent image to form a visible image, and a transfer unit. The transfer unit has a curved side of a semi-hollow tubular shape that contacts the photosensitive unit, and a planar side opposite the curved side and secured at a support member, to transfer the visible image formed on the photosensitive unit to a recording medium. The curved side of the transfer unit has a uniform radius of curvature in an axial direction. Accordingly, the image forming apparatus can not only maintain a constant nip in relation to electrical resistance and contact pressure, but can also adjust the electrical resistance of the transfer unit by appropriately setting factors such as volume resistivity of the conductive elastic member.

Abstract: A three piece concrete culvert system includes a set of horizontally spaced precast side wall sections having inwardly projecting and opposing steps or surfaces which support opposite ends of a precast arched top wall section. The side wall sections include extension portions which project substantially above the ends of the top wall section for increasing the capacity of the side wall sections to resist thrust from the top wall section. Vertically spaced and generally horizontal layers of soil reinforcement members or grids may be positioned within the soil backfilled adjacent the outer surfaces of the side wall sections, and precast concrete anchor members may be attached to the side wall sections above supporting footers for the side wall sections. Shims are used between the footers and the anchor members for temporarily positioning and aligning the side wall sections before receiving the top wall section.

Abstract: The invention pertains to a method for reducing the leaching of lead from lead projectile impact area acting to collect or stop such projectiles. The method includes contacting the lead projectile impact area with a seed of dry granular lead stabilizing agents. The seeding or coating of lead stabilizing agents provides a means to stabilize lead in the bullet/shot impact area while also allowing for future lead bullets, fragments, or lead shot fired into the soil to be stabilized upon contact with the lead stabilizing agent seeds or contact with rainwater leaching through the lead stabilizing agent seeds produced from the projectile coating, or excess seed from the lead shell projectiles. This method eliminates the need to remove or re-treat range soils and greatly reduces the environmental and health risks associated with the use of lead as projectiles in the open environment as well as at control trap ranges.

Abstract: A conduit structure (44) connects subsea oil wells to a floating structure (12) such as a vessel, in shallow water, the conduit structure providing a low cost and reliable fluid connection during drift of the vessel. The conduit structure includes a seafloor riser support (50) with a lower end (52) fixed to the seafloor and an upper end (54) lying a plurality of meters above the seafloor. A flexible pipe or hose (46) extends in a double catenary curve from the top of the seafloor riser support, at a downward incline away from the seafloor riser support and then at an upward incline to the floating structure. A rigid pipe (70) can extend along a plurality of meters of the height of the riser support to minimize the required length of flexible hose and facilitate installation.

Abstract: A wood support piling is reinforced by a composite wrapping. The composite wrapping is formed on the wood piling by a filament winding process. Filament strands are impregnated with resin and wrapped around the wood piling under tension. The resin is allowed to cure to form a seamless layer which is uniform in thickness and materials. The composite wrapping is bonded to the wood piling and applies a compressive force on the wood piling to improve its strength characteristics. The composite wrapping may be applied to a portion of the wood piling where reinforcement is needed so that the piling can be manufactured economically. The composite wrapping protects the piling against deterioration and reduces the need for chemical preservatives which are harmful to the environment.
