  • Patent number: 6601321
Abstract: An improved sole construction for use in shoes. The sole construction consists of a hammock-like lattice formed of medium to high modulus polymers, or a lightweight metal alloy. The lattice substantially conforms in topography to the foot, or a weight-bearing portion thereof (such as the heel or forefoot). The lattice may be disposed on, and supported by, a resilient frame, or secured directly to the shoe upper. The lattice supports the foot while suspending it slightly, even during gait, above the interior base of the shoe. The suspended portions of the foot are thusly protected from the shock of striking a surface (such as the ground, during gait), and are gently supported while bearing a load.

  • Patent number: 6601323
Abstract: The present invention relates to a shoelace cover for use with an athletic shoe for covering the shoelaces to prevent the loosening or untying of a tied shoelace bow. The present invention is particularly applicable to wrestling shoes wherein the physical contact between wrestlers often causes the wrestling shoes to become untied. The shoelace cover generally includes a length of material with ends that can be interconnected to form an adjustable cuff for extending about one's ankle. A front portion includes apertures for shoelaces to extend through the cover. Preferably, the shoelaces extend from the shoe to pass through the apertures of the cover and then back to the shoe to secure the cover to the shoe. The front portion includes a pocket on a back side. The shoelaces can be tied into a shoelace bow, tucked into the pocket, and the ends of the cuff can be secured about one's ankle to retain the shoelace within the pocket under the cover.

  • Patent number: 6601341
Abstract: A method for in-season fertilizer nitrogen application based on predicted yield potential and a nutrient response index. The inventive method includes the steps of: determining a nutrient response index for a field; determining the normalized difference vegetation index of an area to fertilize; determining a predicted crop yield for the area; determining an attainable crop yield for the area; determining nitrogen uptake for the vegetation within the area; and determining the amount of fertilizer nitrogen required by said vegetation. In one embodiment, the normalized difference vegetation index is determined by scanning an area to fertilize with a spectral reflectance sensor which provides reflectance values for red light and near infrared light. The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) is defined by: NDVI=(NIR−red)/(NIR+red) where “NIR” is the reflectance value for near infrared light and “red” is the reflectance value for red light.

The planks are arranged side by side such that at least one of the first and second side surfaces faces one of the second or first side surfaces of adjacent planks. Each of the planks has a planar polymer layer formed of an un-reinforced polymer, being bonded to the bottom surface of the planks with an adhesive layer.

So as to preserve the spacing of the slats, and to keep them in place, the tubes may be laterally deformed in the region between each pair of slats so as to cause a greater cross wise dimension than the diameter of the passage through which the tubes extend. Alternatively, the slats may be joined one to another by poppet connectors.

Abstract: An insulated concrete wall assembly having an embedded anchor plate which enables reliable mounting of fixtures, such as curtain rod brackets and the like, to an exposed surface of an interior wall of a building. The anchor plate is preferably an expanded metal plate having securement apertures of a size to receive and positively engage a fastener extending through wallboard and the anchor plate thereby permitting the fixture to be drawn into tight engagement with the wallboard by positive engagement of the fixture mounting fastener with the anchor plate. In addition, the anchor plate preferably has integrally formed securement projections, or spikes, which enable the anchor plate to be pressed into engagement with the rigid foam insulation before wallboard, such as drywall, is applied over the insulation. The invention also relates to a method of assembling an insulated concrete wall.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to a novel beam and post/column construction which allows for a variety of decorative trim strips to be installed into grooves which are integrally formed in the outer surfaces of the beams and columns. Additionally, there is provision for selectively increasing the structural load capacity of the beam and column by insertion of one or more strengthening members into grooves located in the inner hollow portions thereof. The disclosure finds particular use in the construction of screened patio and pool enclosures. However, there are many other construction applications where the variable load capacity feature may be advantageously utilized to reduce the inventory normally required by a jobber.

  • Patent number: 6601364
Abstract: A method and device for synchronizing the motion between a chassis (master) motor and one or more enclosure feeder (slave) motors in an envelope inserting machine. The motion profile of one motor can be varied with time independently of the others. The displacement mapping method uses encoders, such as optical encoders, to obtain the displacement of each of the associated motors as a function of time. From the actual displacement of the master motor, an electronic computation device or process is used to calculate the theoretical displacement of each slave motor according the motion profile of the slave motor. The theoretical displacement is then compared to the actual displacement. If there is a discrepancy between the theoretical and the actual amount, then the motion of the slave motor will be adjusted so as to eliminate that displacement discrepancy.

In order to transport the electronic components to the index table where the processes such as characteristic measurement, screening, and taping is carried out, a component transporting device is used in which the electronic component delivered from the component delivery section 10 is transported to the component intake port 23 based on negative pressure, transported with the airflow through the transportation path 25, and discharged from the part discharging port 24. The transporting device includes a gas discharging port 33 in the vicinity of the component discharging port, which serves to decrease the transport speed of the electronic component before transporting it to the index table.
