Patent number: 6659148Abstract: The tire of the invention incorporates an active nylon flipper in each bead region. The flipper is active in the sense that it actively absorbs differential shearing strains that arise between each turnup end of the ply and each rigid metal bead during heavy-duty service. In conjunction with each of the two flippers, a chipper protects the portion of the ply lying closest to the wheel rim when the tire is mounted. A nylon patch overlaps the respective end of each chipper, the turnup end of the ply, and the radially outermost part of each flipper. The shearing modulus of the nylon material of each flippers and each patch is intermediate between the shearing moduli of the adjacent materials, which thus distributes and absorbs shearing stresses in ways that reduce the tendency of the turnup ends and the radial most part of the chippers to separate from the adjacent tire structures during heavy-duty operation.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 2001Date of Patent: December 9, 2003Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventors: Jean-Claude Alié, Michèle Marie Joseph Emile Spriet

Patent number: 6659160Abstract: A reverse break stamp hook assembly and method for breaking a biscuit from a casting. The reverse break stamp hook assembly is mounted to an upper trim die of conventional stamping equipment, and includes a leg that hangs from a pivot attached to a mounting bracket and a counterweight arm that extends from the pivot. The hook includes an angled front portion and a catch portion. As the upper trim die moves toward a lower trim die during the downstroke, the angled front portion of the hook contacts an edge of the biscuit. The contact between the edge of the biscuit and the angled front portion of the hook causes the hook to pivot away from the biscuit until the catch portion passes below the biscuit. The counterweight causes the hook to pivot back toward the biscuit, positioning the catch portion under the biscuit. During the upstroke, the catch portion engages the bottom side of the biscuit and causes the biscuit to break from the part as the upper trim die is raised.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 2002Date of Patent: December 9, 2003Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Robert Dague, Jr.

Patent number: 6659161Abstract: The present invention provides diamond tools, and a method for the formation thereof, using CVD techniques. In one aspect, an ephemeral mold is provided which has a diamond interface surface configured to inversely correspond to the desired shape for the working surface of a diamond layer in a tool. After the mold is provided, various CVD techniques may be used to deposit diamond layers upon the diamond interface surface of the mold. Following diamond deposition upon the diamond interface surface, the mold may be removed by various means, such as chemical etching, etc. Thus, the working surface of the diamond receives a shape which inversely corresponds to the configuration of the mold's diamond interface surface. The diamond mass may then be incorporated into a tool, if such incorporation has not yet taken place.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 2000Date of Patent: December 9, 2003Inventor: Chien-Min Sung

Patent number: 6659163Abstract: The method relies on the simultaneous filling of mold (1) from its bottom through main casting gutter (3) and rising of molten metal (2) in a secondary gutter (6) which branches off from the start of casting gutter (3), with said molten metal (2) rising in secondary gutter (6) in the same amount as in mold (1), so that when the latter is full the main casting gutter (3) is sealed and feeding from the secondary gutter (6) continues, causing it to overflow and fill the corresponding feed head (5) provided on top of mold (1), with secondary gutter (6) communicating at the top with said feed head (5) so that once said feed head is full secondary gutter (6) is sealed. In this manner, the most liquid metal will reach the top part of mold (1) and may be fed to it to compensate contraction of the metal as it cools. A further object of the invention is the device (7) which seals the main casting gutter (3) and the secondary gutter (6), with these two sealing devices (7) being identical and independent.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2002Date of Patent: December 9, 2003Assignee: Loramendi, S.A.Inventor: Arana Eraña Agustin

Patent number: 6659166Abstract: An industrial furnace has at least one assembly formed by an extruder for extracting hot gas present in a given zone of the furnace, a water/gas heat exchanger for cooling the hot gas, and a reinjecting device for reinjecting the cooled gas into a zone of the furnace situated downstream from the zone from which the hot gas was extracted. First and second sampling devices sample the hot gas at points each situated upstream and downstream from a heat exchanger and two-port valves allowing the sampling to be performed. A regulating device regulates the respective pressures of the hot gas and the cooled gas downstream from the sampling devices. A three-port valve selects the hot gas or the cooled gas and applies it to a hygrometer. An operator is informed of the results of analyses performed by the hygrometer so that the operator may compare the degree of humidity of the hot gas and of the cooled gas for each of the heat exchangers.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2001Date of Patent: December 9, 2003Assignee: UsinorInventors: Gilles Zander, André Gaggioli
