  • Patent number: 6679202
Abstract: In a case where no malfunction occurs in a water temperature control valve the temperature of the pump water is controlled to accurately follow a target water temperature. In contrast, in a case where the rotational opening degree of the water temperature control valve is accidentally fixed, the pump water temperature can no longer follow the target water temperature. In this instance, a control water temperature error between the target water temperature and the pump water temperature is calculated. When the control water temperature error is greater than a certain error range, a counter is incremented, and a malfunction judgment flag is set when the value of the counter exceeds a certain judgment threshold value at another time. Thereby, the temperature of the cooling water for the engine is feedback controlled while malfunction of the water temperature control valve can be accurately detected.

  • Patent number: 6679218
Abstract: Conventional leaf blowers that are carried on the back of the operator have a starting device placed outside an engine and an fan which means that there position will be far from the back of the operator. This position of the starting device makes it difficult for the operator to reach it and results in that the center of gravity for the tool will be far from the back of the operator. The position also means that the operator must take the tool down from the back to be able to start the tool. In this application is a new arrangement that solves the above-described problem claimed. This is done by placing the starting device (20) for the engine (11) on the side of the fan that is facing towards the back of the operator when the leaf blower is in its right position on the back of the operator. This moves the center of gravity closer to the back of the operator and makes it possible for the operator to reach the starting device without removing the tool from the back.

  • Patent number: 6679228
Abstract: An integrated air fuel module (10) for an internal combustion engine reduces or eliminates the escape of hydrocarbon evaporative emissions from the integrated air fuel module (10) system, sub systems and components. The integrated air fuel module (10) includes containment means (34), such as a valve (34) or carbon adsorber, that blocks the escape of evaporated hydrocarbon emissions from the air inlet (16) of an engine during engine off conditions. The module (10) provides a reduced number of potential external hydrocarbon leak and permeation paths to the surrounding atmosphere. Preferred geometries of the intake manifold (12) in the module (10) with the internal integration of other normally external systems, such as fuel injection (60) and positive crankcase ventilation (50) systems, accomplish the containment of evaporative emissions within or entering the air fuel module (10) between engine operating periods when the engine is shut down.
