  • Patent number: 6695511
Abstract: A holder for marking material includes a housing and a collet which moves axially in the housing. The housing has a first side wall and a second side wall opposite the first side wall. Cavities having sloping surfaces are formed in the housing first side. The collet includes an arm having wedges formed on its outer surface and positioned to be received in the housing cavities. The collet is movable between an extended position in which the sloped surface of the housing cavities engage the collet arm wedges to urge the collet arm transversely towards the housing second wall to frictionally grip the marking material in the holder and a second position in which the wedge is received in the housing cavity such that no transverse force is applied to the collet arm, and the marking material can move freely relative to the holder.

  • Patent number: 6695512
Abstract: A writing implement with a movable sleeve that can be raised by light finger pressure and automatically or manually lowered into a protective position between writing uses. Alternative means can be used to raise and lower the sleeve, such as but not limited to a push bar, roll ball, lever, sliding mechanism, or depressible button. A stop disk prevent the sleeve from being fully withdrawn from the writing implement housing and a locking mechanism between the housing and the sleeve prevents casual contact from prematurely releasing the sleeve from its protective position. Optionally, braces can be used to stabilize the marking material cartridge, a sleeve insert can be used to prevent the writing tip from drying out, and a swivel clip with a high friction grip can be employed to securely position the writing implement between uses. Applications can include use with pens, pencils, markers, paint markers, crayons, and highlighters.

  • Patent number: 6695514
Abstract: A guide coat is formed on a surface as part of a smoothing operation, eg of a vehicle bodywork, by distributing finely divided particulate material, eg a non-toxic, a water-based black powder paint, over the surface so the material remains on and thus highlights any irregularities on the surface. The material may be wiped onto the surface by an applicator, eg synthetic foam or sponge (7), impregnated with the material. The material may be stored in a container (1) in a loose, finely divided form (2) or in a compact, substantially solid form (9) from which finely divided particles may be removed. The majority of the material is subsequently removed from the surface as the surface is abraded to removed the highlighted irregularities.

  • Patent number: 6695515
Abstract: A disposable multi-compartment applicator has two receptacle blisters hermetically closed by a film. One of the receptacle blisters may contain a liquid, fluid, cream, or paste element and the other receptacle blister may contain a dry element, pad, compress, or a material having absorption and restitution power. Squeezing one receptacle blister separates part of the film along a zone of weakness to put the liquid element in communication with the dry element, while keeping the device completely hermetic. After the dry element has been in communication with the liquid element, the dry element may be uncovered for first-aid or other use. The applicator may additionally house sticking plaster or a bandage for covering a wound that has been cleaned using the applicator.

  • Patent number: 6695543
Abstract: A method for filling a void using an aggregate material, such as mine tailings, the fill material being pumped from a site which is located remote from the void. A fluid, aerated material is formed by mixing the particulate solid material with finished foam. The aerated material may also include cement or another binder for applications requiring structural strength. The bubble structure which results from incorporating the foam constituent in the fill material renders this much more fluid and pumpable, thereby allowing the use of much higher solids-to-water ratios than would otherwise be possible while still being able to pump the material over significant distances. This reduces the possibly of fluidic collapse of the material in the void, and produces other advantages as well.

  • Patent number: 6695550
Abstract: The invention relates to a reversible cutting plate made from ceramic material for chucking in a cutting tool for machining cast materials, with each corner of the reversible cutting plate (9) having a minor cutting edge (5a, 5b, 5c, 5d) and a major cutting edge (4a, 4b, 4c, 4d). In order to remove cast-material shavings from the cutting edge, it is proposed that the corners of the reversible cutting plate (9) be ground, pressed or injected into approximately ¼ of the diagonal plane (D) and form a triangular face (3) and the triangular face (3) have at least one incline.

  • Patent number: 6695551
Abstract: A rotatable cutting tool includes a rotatable tool body and a replaceable cutting tip for chip removing machining. The tool body includes a forward free end having a first dovetail coupling part formed thereon. The cutting tip includes a front cutting end and a rear mounting end. The mounting end includes a second dovetail coupling part joined to the first dovetail coupling part. An actuator, such as a screw, is provided which is arranged for elastically deforming one of the dovetail coupling parts to create a tightly clamped relationship between the first and second dovetail coupling parts. Insertion of a replacement cutting tip is performed by laterally mating the dovetail coupling parts until one of the coupling parts abuts a laterally facing stop surface of the other coupling part.

  • Patent number: 6695554
Abstract: Methods for vertically restraining palletized cargo within an aircraft that quickly restrains and unrestrains vertical movement of transportation pallets of uneven shapes within a transportation bay employs a plurality of cams having upwardly oriented circular geared portion and downwardly oriented extended portion mounted onto the sides of the bay. Once a pallet is inserted into the bay with the outboard edges under cams urging the downwardly oriented extended portions to turn to accommodate distortions of the outboard edges, rotating the cams. Once the pallet is fully inserted into the bay, the methods employ locking levers with linear gears along the bottom mesh with the circular gears on portions of the cams preventing the cams from rotation. The extended portions of the cams with shock absorbing bumpers lie on the upper surface of the pallet restraining the vertical movement of the pallets. Alarm means to detect the status of the locking levers are also provided for.

  • Patent number: 6695555
Abstract: A freight loading system for an aircraft includes roller drive units for transporting freight load units such as containers or pallets or the like, latching units for latching the freight load units, and control units for operating the drive units and/or the latching units. At least one of the roller drive units and the latching units is embodied as a pneumatically operated component including a pneumatic actuator. Pressurized air is supplied to the pneumatic components through a pressurized air line system. A pneumatic controller provides pneumatic control signals through pneumatic lines to the pneumatic components to achieve a purely pneumatic system, or an electric controller provides electric control signals over electric conductors to control valves for the pneumatic components to achieve a hybrid electro-pneumatic system. The sparking, overloading, and fire hazard problems of fully electric systems are avoided, and the weight, cost, and maintenance are reduced.
