  • Patent number: 6712432
Abstract: A wheel cover (20) that simulates a high profile automotive wheel and tire. The wheel cover (20) includes a base mounting plate (26) that is removably attached to a wheel (22) using conventional methods. A face plate (38), which is configured to partially cover the tire sidewall as well as a central portion of a wheel, is positioned on top of the base mounting plate (26). The mounting plate (26) is attached to the face plate (38) in a spring-loaded manner, which continually urges the face plate (38) to be in contact with the side wall of the tire (24). The spring-loading arrangement permits the face plate (38) to yield when the tire bulges due to weight induced distortion or road hazard impact. The face plate (38) gives way at the tire bulge and yet retains contiguous engagement with the tire. When attached, the face plate (38) extends outward from the wheel's outer perimeter and over a portion of the tire's sidewall, thus producing the appearance of a high profile wheel and tire.

  • Patent number: 6712438
Abstract: An ink-jet printer includes a nozzle driving unit selectively driving a plurality nozzles to discharge ink through the nozzles, a signal supply supplying a driving signal to the nozzle driving unit, a shift register storing a nozzle selection signal to select a nozzle after the nozzle selection signal is synchronized with a clock signal, a counter counting an input number of the clock signal and deciding whether to operate the shift register, and a controller inputting a discharge signal into the signal supply to discharge the ink when the shift register is disabled. The counter compares a set-up value set up in accordance with a bit number of the nozzle selection data signal with the input number of the clock signal to disable the shift register. Therefore, noise introduced into the noise selection signal by the discharge signal is eliminated. Thus a malfunction of the head driving device can be prevented.

Abstract: An ink-jet printing apparatus, which performs printing by reciprocally scanning a carriage, incorporating a printhead, relative to a print medium, comprises a detection unit for outputting a detection signal in accordance with a predetermined distance of a carriage movement in a carriage scanning direction. In this ink-jet printing apparatus, a timing signal is generated in correspondence with a period of the detection signal; a time interval of the detection signal is timed; a ratio between the time interval of the detection signal and a delay time of the timing signal is stored in a memory as reciprocal registration adjustment information; a delay time of the timing signal is obtained based on the information read out from the memory and the time interval of the detection signal when performing printing in a backward scan; a delay signal obtained by delaying the timing signal is outputted in accordance with the delay time; and the printhead is driven in accordance with the delay signal.

Abstract: The printing apparatus of the present invention allows dots to be formed after being selected from dot types whose number is greater than the number of gradations in each of the pixels constituting print data received from outside the printing apparatus. In the process, dots are formed for each gradation value after being selected from a plurality of types of dots having different sizes and/or formation positions such that the outlines contained in the printed image are smoothed, making it possible to smooth the outlines of line drawings while minimizing any increase in the volume of data transmitted from the outside and believed to cause a reduction in the printing speed.

Abstract: In a method of operating an inkjet printer, an intermediate transfer member is movable in an advance direction. A carrier supports a printhead, and is movable relative to the intermediate transfer member in a direction generally perpendicular to the advance direction. The printhead defines a plurality of raster lines extending over the intermediate transfer member at a non-perpendicular, fixed angle vector relative to the advanced direction. A bitmap image is defined which corresponds to an image to be formed on the intermediate transfer member. The bitmap image includes a plurality of rows and columns of pixels, with at least one image data corresponding to each pixel. The bitmap image is skewed such that the image data for at least one column within the bitmap image is shifted a predetermined number of pixel locations, dependent upon the fixed angle vector.

Abstract: A recording apparatus is provided with two or more kinds of sub-scanning amounts per main scan, and records a high quality image by reducing the bleeding between colors created characteristically by a multi-pass recording method. The number of times of main scanning to complete an image by a first discharge port array for black ink use and a second discharge port array for color ink use, respectively, are set to be m (m is a positive integer) and n (n is a positive integer) times. With respect to discharge ports to be used for recording in the first and second discharge port arrays, a distance between discharge ports which are positioned at upstream ends of the respective first and second discharge port arrays in the sub-scan direction is made equal to a length of a continuously conveying amount of (m+a) (a is a positive integer) times by combination of the at least two kinds of conveying amounts.

  • Patent number: 6712444
Abstract: The invention provides an image forming method and apparatus capable of forming an image with a desired shape at a correct position on a recording medium having expansion and contraction properties. Boundary lines formed on the recording medium being conveyed are detected by a sensor. Distortion of the recording medium is evaluated on the basis of the detected boundary lines. Image data is corrected in accordance with the result of the evaluation and an image is formed in accordance with the corrected image data. In the above process, image data within the respective areas surrounded by the boundary lines is deformed such that the image is printed at a correct location even when the recording medium has distortion due to expansion/contraction.
